  • Mine is mean too

  • small cage

  • Real nice colorful specimen you got there, work with him more and you will not need the gloves, remember when he gets bigger a bite is gonna hurt!

It is advisible to at least get him tractible, cool sav though!

  • @whiteyr44

    Thanks :)

  • There are few tutorials on raising a happy/non-agressive savannah monitor. Being able to safely co-habitate with such a relatively powerful and free-willed animal is the greatest satisfaction. What worked for me is quite straightforward: I've avoided acts which could potentially trigger agressive behavior such as teasing, placing fingers in field of view, feeding live prey, sudden movements or ignoring his body language at ANY moment. In return: bite count-0 and unrivaled reptile companionship.

  • Nice monitor, I hope he calmed down a bit. Results may vary with adult or adolescent monitors which were distanced from previous carers. I sometimes read opinions their enclosures are 2 small to live in, very true. In fact I lean towards the notion a big active positive lizard such as savannah monitor, covering large distances in the wild, shouldn't really be caged. It's up to us to go out of our way to give them as much freedom as possible in return for denying them their natural environment.

  • Do you not know the proper way to get these out ?

  • @zacsid

    Yes I know :)

  • Seriously needs some handling, I understand bites and nips when they are juvenile but a growing adult that should of stopped, personally I deal with the bite without a glove, this has worked for all my tegus (very nasty bite) and they get used to the fact your not there to injure or harm them, to be fair to them they see something as large as us then they are going to get nervous but you just need time to handle correctly, without the glove and patience, maybe a bit of wood to bite down on when

  • Honestly those lizards are better when there not aggressive.. L2 Tame a Savannah Monitor!!! smfh

  • His gloves must have been pretty thick b/c he was still sticking his hand in there lol

  • @BabyD307 Yes this gloves are thick enough ;)

  • if you hold it daily it wont bite

  • does he have teeth?

  • @ohpooitsdevin Yeh, well little riges not really teeth

  • Do all savannah monitors need handling with gloves when the get bigger, or is it possible to train them to not bite you?

  • @toddmudvayne87

Yes it's possible, but You need lots of time for that.

  • @rootjackal: Not true, you just hold it allot as soon as you get one, and have it even rest under your shirt, the lizard with in a day to three days become comfortable with you. My lizard is perfectly fine with me.

  • when was the last time you took him out to play

  • @Rollingag1421

I'm never play with him before.

  • Awwww he likes you! XD

  • is he tame now and easily handled?

  • dose it hurt

  • @BlackCorpsAirsoft my brothers savannah bit me like 2 weeks ago when i was in his house and yes it does

  • by anychance do u still have all 10 digits lol

  • evil little basterd anit he jk really cool monitor

  • Damn mines that big at 4 months hes a brute and he`ll go toe to toe with you have to pic him up in the morning when hes cool lol nice sav though

  • Hahahahahaha after the first bite I was like fuck that woulda hurt without a glove maybe even with a glove

  • angry lil fucker

  • damn dude i hope my baby sav dont act act like that when he gets big or else its lights out forr him =] just saying if your going to eat me ill eat you first mmmmmmmmm lizard

  • @smokeycloud1 dont get one if you dont want to get bit it is bound to happen sooner or later... why waste money on something you will kill if it bites you

  • @seedling345 hahah im just jokeing dude....i couldnt kill him even if i wanted to but im not trying to get bit even if it could happen

  • Lol its like you cant hurt me bitch dont try xD

  • allowing him to bite is just gonna let him get used of the being the boss, if you have gloves that you are not scared to get bit in(which you clearly do lmao) you should stick your hand in and pet him then quickly scoop him up to show that you are clearly more dominant than him

  • he prob just thinks your fingers are food thats all, my bearded dragon always tries to bite my fingers cause hes a bit of a blondie and thinks its food :D

  • lightning quick!

  • i can tell you hand feed

  • i want a savannah monitor and was wondering could i keep one in a 4 foot by 3 foot tank considering he would only be in it at night and when im feeding him

  • @CJELLIOTT666 im no expert i just bought my first monitor but ive done weeks of research and every care sheet or forum post ive read said that an ideal habitat for a monitor will be twice as long as the lizard and as wide is the lizard is long because they need exercise and 4 foot by three foot is like confining you to a twin sized bed... just sayin not talkin shit

  • ouch! an adult one of them has the jaw power to remove fingers, that would hurt without a glove lol

  • Super adorable!!!

  • It's good to see you're persistant with the taming. How is that going for you? What glove is that you're using? Must be a pretty tough one. Great Sav x

  • @ASKAdamP

It's going very well, I'm just using normal gloves for gardening :P

  • HA puts his hand in . Monitor looks and straight up bite hahaah

  • @skolvikingsskol

He was bitten by his brother.

  • i get so mad wen mine bites me then i feel like ima cry becouse its like a kid to me

but yeah i like yell at mine and tell him to stop and he can tell he did somthing wrong

  • @LFCjohn1996 Im trying to train him to eat once a week now because im leaving on vacation and I have no one to watch him. Maybe that's why he bit me. I had him in the bathtub with water and when i picked him up he was acting funny, he's never did that before. Is it true you can put salt in his mouth when he bites and he'll let go?

  • @LFCjohn1996 Hi, I just got bit by my monitor two days ago. I was bathing him like I usually do and for some reason he bit my finger and wouldn't let go. Now im afraid to hold him again. Is there anything i can do to prevent him from biting again? He's about 2 yrs old.

  • @locksmithh69 It may b safe 4 now 2 consider him a risk so, no.1- I strongly recommend 2 keep ur eyes on his head when handling, 2- keep him well fed using tongues, that's what they r 4 (handfeeding may b ok with well fed baby but not with unpredictable 2 yo) 3-exercise, outdoors & daily if possible, provide stimulus for other senses, new smells, views, textures, 4-let him treat his viv as his bedroom, not toilet. Given choice they prefer to defecate far from sleeping/resting quarters.Good luck.

  • how long did it take you to do that before it got used to youe hand????

  • what is that huge scar on his armpit? did he have surgery

  • damn how much did u take him out wen he was little that could be one reason y he did that

  • did it hurt

  • did you ever hold him as a baby

  • I feel bad for all the stress it must be going through when you do that, i normally just pick them up by the tail, support their body, then set them down on a table where i can't pet them. If these guys are treated correctly from birth they will be fairly tame

  • i got bite dosnt hurt that much its mainly the shock of how quick it is and then again it depends on your pain threshold :)

  • How long have you had that monitor?

  • does it hert?

  • wow your monitor is obviously really stressed when your poking at it and invading its 'territory'. you should keep him with you on your lap or how ever for an hour or so a day so that he can get useto your company and wont be so agressive and from what i could see the terrarium was pretty small which might be causing a bit of stress too... how big is it? i have 2 bearded dragons in a 66 x 44 x 33 tank and i held them since they were hatchlings and they love my company

  • let him come to u and bribe with food that how u tame them the easiest and safest

  • F that lizard! I would grab him and throw him against the wall if he ever tried to bite me.

J/k. I own an aggressive sav and he bites me all the time. Thats actually what i feel like doing every time he bites me but of course i dont do it. I am very patient with him. Mine is just a tad worse though. He doesnt just bite, he hisses, scratches, and whips...

  • @buitrami how bad does it hurt to get bitten? without gloves

  • The bite hurts with gloves and without. The only difference is without gloves, you bleed. The gloves only prevent shredding and bleeding, the pressure of the jaws are still there. It's funny though, since the last time i posted that last comment, he's tamed down quite a lot. Doesn't bite anymore, just hisses and whips. He is still young, only about 10 months old, 14 inches long and feeding on adult mice. He bit me once without gloves because I was feeding him and he mistook my finger for a roach

  • One of the teeth puncured my skin and it bled a little. Hurt scale 1-10 it was about a 3 or a 4. It "hurts" but it doesnt really hurt know what i mean. You get over it pretty fast. But then again, he's still young and his bite pressure with grow with age. That's why i'm trying to tame him before it's too late. So far so good...

  • your pissing it off, of corse it bites,

  • Ouch! vicious little guy, bute cute. How old is he?

  • About 10 months

  • @rootjackal did you ever hold your savannah as a baby
