And I know that AVatar lends it ideas from the shaolin arts(its far obvious too). Dmb thing is that the Shaolin skills are mostly not combat related and only good for graceful movements. I mean of what use is a somersault in actuall combat-probably getting kicked in the back. Hit at all costs your opponent(remember Raoh and Ken endfight).

HNK has more accurate martial arts than in Avatar? Avatar has a lot of magic parts to its fights, but most of the movements are ripped right from Northern Shaolin, Hung Gar, Ba Gua & Tai Chi. HNK fighting consists of "teleportation speed", super fast punches, & crazy super powers.

I like HNK too, but youre starting to cross the fanboy line of reason here, viewing it as much better than it really is and belittling one of the best animated shows in the last decade+ without good reason. Ease up.

well you can kinda relate hokuto shiken to a martial arts know as dim mak in a way seeing that alot of hokuto shinken delt with driving life energy into apponets pressure points causing their bodys to explode, dim mak deals with the same principles striking your apponents pressure point and driving your chi into them to cause internal damage. thats only for mainly kenshiro who beats the hell out of some one not really raoh powers up and his energy kills you can also look up dim mak aswell .

Okay, HNK has its weaknesses too.

-Too much(and too stupid) filler material, the repeating footage, Lynn("Ken! Ken! Ken!") and the changes they had to make because of schedule and censorship(not to mention all the little problems which occured because of budget problems). If they would have followed strictly the manga and had a quality resembling the quality of the movie, then it had the chance to be the fines animeseries there is. But still its source material is strong enough to lift it up

Nay, it´s not only the violence that makes HNK that great. I just mentioned it because it´s already enough to beat out Avatar.

It´s the Story, the epic struggle between brothers, the melodramatic deaths, the music(not one song in Avatar comes close) and the great fighting in it. The fights in Avatar look like the fights in a Jackie Chan flick(pointless Kung Fu, with silly movements). You know if anyone of them would have fought serious, the serial would have ended with season one.

2) You are right about some of the references to HNK, but they weren't total rip-offs like u say. And I'm pretty sure that your being Jewish isn't the reason 4 the bad ratings

3) Avatar doesn't need gore and language to be great. It is simply 1 of the best animated shows in the eyes of alot of fans across the nation.

1) The Avatar animators probably have seen HNK, considering that one of the joke "preview" images for season 3 was an uber-buff Aang with Kenshiro's trademark constellation scars on his chest.

2) It's not anime. It has Miyazaki influences, but it differs quite a bit in actual animation. Not to mention it was designed in America and animated in Korea.

to 2; yeah you´re right: The picture judders-especial in in fast action scenes or when big things start to movie. It just doesn´t look that fluid as in (old) animes. Seems like they only use 20 pictures per second. However they still try to copy Anime and that is what I meant. They (in my opinion) just follow the trend. Although they did a good job in it, they just can´t compare to (old) japanese production.

Wait, what? Anime framerate is much lower that American animation. That's why they use slide animation, streaky backgrounds over still images and lip-flaps for speaking. Avatar is MUCH better animated than the vast majority of anime made for TV, especially season three. Movies are different animal entirely, of course.

But there's no way you can watch the fight in "Sokka's Master" and think "this isn't fluid".

I guess it was unintentionally by the producers(I doubt any of em did ever see HNK) but did you ever notice that the end of Avatar resembles the end of HNK in several points.

In Hnk a statute tolds Ken how to overcome Kaioh-in Avatar it is that turtle which shows Aang the way.

In the end figth Aang gets smashed the same way against a stone pillar as Ken.

Kenshiro took Kaiohs Fist-Aang took Ozais bending ability.

And both final fights set in an distopian wasteland
