Can hardly believe this was four years ago now! Glad to see people are still watching, and still enjoying this beautiful music. I thought I'd just address the annoying chatter so many have commented on...I admit that was my friends and me. Keep in mind we were just enjoying the show, not necessarily thinking of the thousands of people on youtube ;) Keep listening, and again, check out the whole show on archive dot org!
It's a LIVE SHOW...People are gonna clap and holler and get intot he music. I don't mind that at all. I HATE when folks are just sitting there having conversations during a performance.
the clapping was irritating-- the hoots and catcalls didn't add the performance, tpp I really love the level which Derek can now play slide with such subtle moves at the end. It's awsome.
If the clapping wasn't there, Derek wouldn't have sounded so good. He plays off of the clapping. Get what I'm saying? It's an inspiration, if you will. But yes the hooting and hollering was bad.
Duane Allman played this in the middle of the song "You dont love me" during a live set on WPLJ radio in Manhattan. The band played the set Aug 26, 1971 to a live studio audience and the radio listeners. At one point, the band and audience fall completely silent as they couldn't believe what they were seeing. Duane them come back into the original song but not before paying his respects to his friend, the man who wrote it and was just murdered, King Curtis
if u all didn't know, the Allman brothers SOul serenade/you don't love me is on their boxed set Dreams. it's what intro'd me to this great song. good lead in by Duane, talking about Curtis, and of course he (Duane) would b dead soon after
ive got his autograph on my guitar..prob the most memorable experience of my life to date..got escorted backstage by his sister and he came right down off the bus and talked to my friend and i for a few min and signed our stuff
one reason this sounds so cool is that it starts with Miles Davis's "In a Silent Way" in a pretty faithful rendition right up to the 3 minute mark, before transitioning at 3:33 to "Soul Serenade." that front end is a beautifully composed song, not just noodling. if you like it check out the original or Bill Laswell's Panthalassa, which mixes and merges a number of Miles' songs from the period
Yansfeld: Thank you for this post, this is the best rendition of this song ever performed. I think you have captured a true gem. Derek and the boys throw down on this song and it does not get any better. Thanks again from the Juiceman
Good vibs, but the people communicating in the background midway is frustrating everything. Overall the sound is soulful and King Curtis with a twist.
i did it for you. its me playing guitar/bass/percussion with mike's vocals dubbed in. i posted it as a video response and its under my username as a video
i think the clapping before the vocals start is great. it bridges the intro when they play this arrangement perfectly. derek really plays off of the audiences clapping. and, if i were up there playing that instrumental interlude and the audience didn't start clapping i'd wonder why they werent getting into it. it's a pretty natural point to clap
@Yansfeld Could you post a link? I would love to download the show. Does most of archive.org only come in .flac? I cannot play FLAC files on my computer, do you have a program that you recommend?
@thenut8522 I'm pretty sure sure you can download in mp3 format from archive, though you might have to do it track by track. There are tons of conversion programs, depending on your OS. I'd just google it to find a good free one. I'll PM you the link.

The clapping is actually musical, whereas the hoots and hollers aren't. I don't like the chitter-chatter.

the beginning around 4 minutes sounds a lot like a section towards the end of "You Don't Love Me" from the Fillmore East album of the Allman Brothers
dawkinsfan420 2 years ago
"You Don't Love Me" from Fillmore East is actually a medley of "You Don't Love Me" and "Soul Serenade"
