  • 5:28 WTF!

  • whats the song at the start?

  • @muso123456 Deadwing. The title track, haha.

  • My favourite cousin looks like Gavin...I look like Kurt Cobain... i'm jealous....

  • I love Porcupine Tree. It's a shame people give you a blank look when you talk about them

  • What DAW is that?

  • song at 6:10?

  • @burrchanburr that's the final bit from "Mellotron Scratch"

  • 4:49 "No industrial drums this time buddy"

  • hmm should i buy first Deadwing or FOBP?

  • @ryonafan Both great records but i would suggest Fear of a Blank Planet first. You should also check out another great record by them called "In Absentia".

  • @Gilmour3 thanks, alredy have in absentia, amazing 8D

  • lyrical people don't seem to get this band i feel.

  • @hiflyinlowlife lyrical?...

  • @ryonafan people who focus on the lyrics rather than the music??

  • where it starts doing the [devin] townsend things at the end, i love that part lol

  • @KanehRYM Hahaha, I thought that I was the only one who noticed that :D

  • @KanehRYM *[pete] townshend from The Who probably :)

  • This album changed my life! By far my favourite album ever though my favourite song ever is "anesthetize" from "fear of a blank planet" is my favourite ever song

  • "international pop star " xD

  • Anyone know why they don't play deadwing and shallow live? their site says any song they don't play live it's because it's hard to recreate the sound but I don't see what could can't be translated into a live atmosphere? :S

  • @lolwut162 In an interview Gavin said that it's because they weren't really received that well in a live setting. It's unfortunate, because I'd really love to hear them played live.

  • Jesus... the mix at 4:40 is rawkin!!

  • No no no, I'm glad Porcupine Tree is not that famous, and slightly underrated. I would hate to see some little school kids walking around singing the song they heard on the radio in the morning, that happens to be one of my favorite Steven Wilson pieces. That's just the truth. Hahaha

  • @ultimate0death I agree, but I wish they'd be appreciated more or at the least make more money out of it. Their FAQ says they lose money at nearly every concert they play. :(

    They deserve so much better.

  • he mentioned devin townsend 0_0

  • @kflive1 lol. I'm pretty sure he was referring to Pete Townsend.

  • @jek21 Townshend that is !

  • "Hello?" "International popstar!"

  • activate the close caption for the video, and it transcribes in the begining "katherine gilliardi business with or"

  • 'They're all nuts in this band... Apart from me!' - I love him.

  • PT should be a much bigger band like AC DC or something !

  • what is the timing of that beat at 2:06 - 2:35

  • @speckytom Believe it or not, the rhythm actually fits into a 4/4 measure. Harrison splits it up though, with 5 eighths on one side and 3 eighths on the other (5+3/8).

  • @speckytom

    3 * 5/8 and 1/8 or 16/8

  • This video should really be called "The Making of Mellotron Scratch."

  • @MrDoggerDog well there are also parts of mother and child divided and glass arm shattering but you're right... there's a lot of mellotron scratch

  • What pedal is at 3:18?

  • @IAmMonsterDog

Assuming that you're talking about the red thing. Its a Line 6 POD, handy studio pedal.

  • @hillysats no I know what the line 6 pod is. I was talking about the metal looking box-like pedal (not the wah) next to the wound up cable. It looks like some sort of echo box.

  • @hillysats Please answer if you know! It's been driving me ABSOLUTELY NUTS for SIX MONTHS!!!!!

  • 25 viewers are f*cking retards

  • Internacional Pop Star ahaha xp This man is just a genius!!!

  • International Pop star xD

  • I love the way Steven is always barefoot, haha! Must be a sign of genius!!!

  • @RuZzam Shallow

  • what song is at 5:07

  • where can i find this DVD?

  • No brother. Methinks you're wrong. Steve Wilson is a brilliant song writer. He's music might seem simple, but it's so layered. Its beautiful. The man's vocal melodies are unique and his harmonies are brilliant. He's an alright guitar player, a good singer but an INCREDIBLE song writer :) You've either not listened to enough of his music ( and it does take some serious listening to make out all the layers ) or you're just not into this kind of music. Either way, listen to PT some more. Cheers :)

  • 25 people are total fags.

  • 5:35 is the start of my favorite guitar melody ever!

  • @PASTAandMUSE and with it my favorite vocal melody ever :D

  • My favorite band. I'm lucky enough to have seen them in concert twice.

Steven Wilson is a song writing genius.

Gavin Harrison is an amazing and gifted drummer.

    Great video BTW!

  • My only doubt in life is that my friend turned me on to Porcupine tree, but i cant see them live or get any new albums because Im in the middle of nowhere... I personally think that Steven Wilson is a music genuis and is THE BEST artist i know

  • what's the name of the song at the end?

  • @toolreyes Mellotron Scratch

  • I love the Keys....this is like in the 70s......with all the analogue Keys

  • My first heard album of PT!!! Great work))

  • The album from which I started to listen to PT)))

  • Eh, if i had my way Porcupine tree would be a bit like what Radiohead and Tool is now, Eg well known across the world, but the mainstream media don't touch because they're so ambitious.

  • I only discovered Steve Wilson about six months ago and I am totally in awe. I can't believe more people don't know about Porcupine Tree. Strangely enough, though, I kind of feel the same way AHMADF93 does - I'm partly glad they're not better known.

  • steven wilson eats babies. end of story.

  • Richard Barbieri, genius

  • I hope when porcupine tree makes the next album they revert back this deadwing era, this album is just tooooo goooood

  • @Crossroads551

Yeah, it's my favorite modern PT album

  • omg! Steven's soo young! :O

guy- "giving it some really hard fast, some industrial drums, going on double time" *plays song with new drum line*

    Steven - Bl....................

    LOL!!

  • @LiveOnQueen guy? Thats Gavin Harrison lol.

  • @tylerholicus

oh sorry haha, Gavin Harrison ^-^

not guy, ( i didnt know his name )

  • @LiveOnQueen lol all good. He's been their drummer since 2002.

  • I fucking love Deadwing.

  • My favorite PT album by far.

Is it just me or does anyone feel like the story line of Deadwing is backwards?

  • 4:49 - NOT IMPRESSED. lol, maybe Steven had a bad day, awesome band.

  • what is the song that is played at the end?

  • @otto192 The song at the end is "Mellotron Scratch", track #6 off the Deadwing album. Specifically it's the last minute or so of the song, and it's the same song that Steve's talking about the Townsend thing and adding distortion earlier in the video, but now I'm just being a dork. Love this band...

  • @fuzzo73 ofcourse, damn how could i not get that one.. thank you

  • the first thing that Gavin plays sounds like Mother & Child Divided..!! :D one of the best bands... along with Dream Theater, my other favorite..!! :)

  • PT Simply rocks!!!

  • I'm in my forties. Best decade.

  • Modern day musical genius but underrated

  • @AHMADF93 You just spoke my mind :)

  • @AHMADF93 It's kind of sad to say this, but I'm glad he is underrated

  • @AHMADF93 *good* modern day music.

  • He said "international popstar" :D

  • Anyone else find it incredibly hard to believe that Steven Wilson's in his fourties??

  • @tourdeforce17 he looks like 17 year old nerd kid

  • @tourdeforce17 no i don't find it hard cos i was at school with him :)

  • @bitsofplants lol fair enough

  • @tourdeforce17 I find it hard to believe that he isn't immortal. Well, maybe he is

  • @tourdeforce17 that is insane

  • @tourdeforce17 listen to the first verse of "Time Flies"

  • @tourdeforce17 ironically about 40 people

  • @tourdeforce17 What? Really?

  • @tourdeforce17 he looks like 30 or so

  • @tourdeforce17 Or that Gavin Harrison is nearly in his fifties?

  • Is he actually using a POD to record guitars? min 3:19

  • @dondanzig Pretty much this entire album was recorded through a POD. Proof that Steven Wilson is a God.

  • 4:40 This is awesome! Why isn't it on the album?

  • @Jambi18 Actually it is on the album. It's a part of "Shallow".

  • @Jambi18 Its on the album.

    Shallow

  • 4:40 This is awesome! Why isn't it on the album?

  • @ 36 seconds, does he say, "where it starts doing the townsend thing at the end?"

  • @smashingchap11 I heard that too and I can't figure out which Townsend he's talking about. Either way, whether it's Devin or Pete he's talking about, it still sounded cool as hell.

  • I still can't believe how Gavin is playing with closed eyes. He's amazing.

  • I don't believe that musicians want you to worship them or say "you are god!". They are just normal people like the rest of us.

  • AMAZING album!

  • Steven wilson is God!

  • 4:52 i take it he liked the idea

  • In absentia: Best album ever

  • fear of a blank planet best album ever

  • whe are nuts in this band hahahahahahah

  • Comment removed

  • no one can say muse or porcupine are crap. they are both extremely talented bands. you cant say that matt isnt a better singer than steven! its just fact. i love both bands.

  • @topcat2726 Technically better at using his voice when it comes to tonality. Where matt has a whiny falsetto voice, however, i feel Steven has the most pleasant one i've ever heard. In the same way i feel Matt has a monotonous whiny voice, but then Steven also has a few songs in which this would fit as a discription.

In range, Matt may be better, but in terms of creativity, i'll give you the same medicine: you can't say Steven isn't a more creative vocalist then Matt, it's just fact.

  • @MEA0105 matt uses his voice very well i think and i dont think it is whiny or monotonous. if anything i have found stevens voice more monotonous and whiny. matt has a larger range than steven and i think that on songs like ruled by secrecy, microcuts and showbiz he shows his versatility and range perfectly. it all comes down to personal taste in the end but i do think matt wins by quite a way. both are masterful song writers but theyre lyrics are a bit shaky sometimes

  • @topcat2726 I agree with you on all terms except the falsetto part of the range, as he can go higher (though not lower). But really, i've heard a lot of Muse songs which i consider decent, but the three you mentioned sort of contradict the "not whiny" part, especially showbiz. That's not regular voice range. It might be falsetto, might not, but half the people i know can do it. :p Anyway, no reason to have a dispute; i'll like whatever i want, and so will you.

  • what song is Gavin playing at 2:05 ?

  • @Thermingt0n

    Mother and child divided.

  • 4:54 - I'm not impressed. Your ideas suck. I am God.

  • 4:54 - I'm not impressed. Your ideas suck. I am god.

  • Muse... ahahahahahahahahahahaha

  • It's actually very true what Gavin says at 3:52.

  • This and In Absentia are two of the greatest albums ever made.....if not THE greatest lol <3

  • Deadwing: best album ever.

  • @Gamagachee The Incident: Best album ever.

  • @Firecrotch6979 Preety much everything by PT is

  • .... satanists..... ? lmao.

  • Haha, Gavin: "They're all nuts in this band... Apart from me."

True enough, which is why this form of music demolishes every other sound on this planet and the next. Brilliant stuff!

  • Steve i am so jealus, i hate i didn't write deadwing...

    You are a genius!!

  • I would rather say 5 genious artists since we should not forget their 5th unofficial member that always tours with them: John Wesley, great singer and guitar player!

  • these 4 people are genius´

  • Steve wilson is friggin genious.!!!

  • Stephen Wilson and Colin Chapman: two gifted Britons. Chapman rewrote automotive history with his conceptions. Wilson, with Porcupine Tree, and like progressive artists are remaking music with new expansions on concepts. It's only a matter of time before Porcupine Tree writes a masterpiece and Lotus releases a car that re-imagines the vehicle.

  • for which song is the upright bass?

  • What is the song at the end called?

  • @666Meshuggah mellotron scratch

  • @666Meshuggah It's the end of Mellotron Scratch.

  • Search for "While The City Sleeps-Bridge" or klick into our channel, we are a new band that have been highly influenced by Porcupine Tree!

  • best album of porcupine tree! Gavin is god!

  • international popstar :)

  • porcupine tree lo mas :D

  • porcupine tree and muse.. two of the greatest bands ever!!!

  • porcupine tree :) muse pfffff

  • @KetoCQ Totally right!

  • @KetoCQ love pt and muse! two very creative bands, although muse is more mainstream.

  • @KetoCQ Having heard the fifth studio album of Muse, Muse is no longer a comparison with Porcupine Tree. It is disgrace to put Porcupine Tree with the overrated mainstream band. Muse WAS great till BH&R

  • @aeonzone i agree about the latest two muse albums being worse than their predecessors but there have been a few PT albums i havent rated that highly. It doesnt make me less of a fan, its just my opinion and taste. Muse are still one of my favourite bands ever and absolution and origin are my two fave albums ever. deadwing, in absentia and the incident are in the top 5 though haha! Muse beat anyone live hands down though and i have seen both PT and muse multiple times and own live dvds of both.

  • no, not muse

  • @KetoCQ man thats sooooooooo true!

  • @KetoCQ I wouldn't agree more, they rock!!!

  • @KetoCQ yes, yes, YES !!!

  • @fanka6676 ooooooooouuuu wwhhhoooooooooo-wee!!

  • @KetoCQ add pink floyd and dream theater in the Muse and PT mix,and you got yourselfs the greatest list of bands in the universe!

  • @KetoCQ Indeed

  • @KetoCQ tho i am of the opinion that PT is way ahead of muse but whatever...

  • @BergkampPT Yeah, they are.

  • @KetoCQ More like Porcupine Tree and Mew. hovwever, Opeth is just as good as those.

  • @KetoCQ get radiohead in the trio and it just can't get any better

  • That sounds like such a conspiracy theory, but I can't agree more

  • @CoreOfTheSpiral yeah u sound like a huge faggot right there

  • @CoreOfTheSpiral You are a god xD! I can´t be more agree!!!

  • @CoreOfTheSpiral

AMEN!!!! to that..I know exactly what u mean

  • @CoreOfTheSpiral amen bro. These are the kinds of bands that should be on top.

  • @CoreOfTheSpiral

yeh man, and its becoming increasingly more frustrating that these bands dont get the credit and exposure they deserve!(and the public deserve!!)

  • @CoreOfTheSpiral WOWW WISE....AAHAHA!!!! Like Steven Wilson or sumtin'....

  • I agree, Porcupine Tree is wonderful, but get off your high horse buddy. It IS a money making industry, so of course labels will sign bands they feel they can milk to the largest consumers (kids and their parents) who tend not to be very music savvy.

  • @CoreOfTheSpiral dont u have better things to do man :D ?

  • @CoreOfTheSpiral This man speaks the truth.

  • @CoreOfTheSpiral And this is why we are the puppets and the media are the puppeteers. (An analogy I came up with awhile ago.)

  • @CoreOfTheSpiral You're not a downer are you

  • Ummmm.... Porcupine Tree probably have more worldwide fans than Shakira or the Jonas Brothers, and their albums have progressively sold more each time. (Not to mention how much more devoted these fans are) don't worry about their "survival" they will reach the ears of all who want to listen

  • naw. Not more worldwide fans. I wish, oh god do I wish more people liked PT. But all there is anymore is shitty mainstream crap no kids want to hear music like this :(

  • @manydaysago

thats very true, the jonass brothers and other such gay bands only have a bunch of 12-13 year old girls and their moms as fans, and maybe a bunch of homos who know NOTHING about music. steven wilson is pure genius, and the rest of the band is very talented, and if you put that together you get amazingness.
