Ive had my Gemeinhardt flute since the like 5th grade and im 23 now , its lasted forever!!!! i would say there probably the best flute you can get.

@sophiamarie18 Actually, Gemeinhardts don't have tuning issues. I have always played on Gemeinhardts and they have always 1) sounded amazing, and 2) lasted me a very long time without needing repairs. The flutes/instruments you DO want to stay away from are colored ones. Don't pick based on looks; pick based on quality. One more thing, never buy online. Buying instruments is like buying shoes. You want to try it out before you buy it.

-word of advise for people who want that kind of flute- it breaks within a year usually. gold and silver last about 5 years, if treated with care. i got a REAL flute from ebay for 32 dollars, new. real fluters know better, guys. Jeez, im 12 and know better!!! v.v

I think you should get a Jupiter or name brand flute. Colored instruments don't have a long life and have lots of tuning issues. I recommend it because it will help you get a better and fuller tone quality. Yes, I know someone with a colored flute and the color rub off an she hates it.

@ClaaireeNicoolee I have some advice about flutes with colors.... You are wasting your money on those things... They don't play as well as the regular colored ones. And two music shops normally don't fix them. I wasn't trying to be mean or anything but just to warn people and you about the defects with these colored instruments.

its good but you should really consider a silver flute because most high school bands wont let you play a red one and they dont have very good sound quality

@MandiandKassie You're right. The different colored flutes are made of a cheaper metal and they produce a bad tone quality. It doesn't matter how good the player is, it's how good the horn is. I would suggest buying or even rent-to-buy and B-foot Armstrong or Jupiter flute. I have a Armstrong with the B-foot and it's an amazing horn.

a girl i know has a HOT PINK FLUTE! It's extremely funny, cuz the rest of us in our band have sliver flutes XD.

As for your playing, you could use a little improvement on your high notes. I find holding up your flute parallel AND a bit out really helps. Your tonguing could use improvement too, but you go the notes down and have great potential.
