  • It's nice to see an acoustic coupler on a C=64. I had a 1600 (VicModem) for quite a while (manual dial, but I'd work the rotary phone for hours to get through). When I finally scored a 1670, I was in my glory. Are you using a VIC-1011A RS-232 adapter to connect the acoustic coupler?

  • @herbalinguist

    No it's a self-made RS-232 adapter (Doc Kirk did it *g*). Have a look at 0:14 and 5:33 in the clip ;)

  • I guess I shouldn't be surprised that instead of the modem sounds, we get some shitty song. Once again, youtube never fails to disappoint. Disliked.

  • hhaha the internets

  • I miss BBS'ing. Damn you late 90's!

  • As much as I appreciate my youth, I really wish I had been capable of higher-level thought/alive during this time period. I look at the internet as a day-to-day thing; when I was younger, it was special. A cool way of getting info that not everyone had (AOL 1.0; the earth, the key, I forgot the last one). But this; this is to a whole 'nother level. I participated in Attack of the Show's dial-up BBS when Tech TV was around; and that was a blast.

I miss when computer comm was something special.

  • @llamaboy1688

    Very well said

What's "Attack of the Show's dial-up BBS"? Sort of retro bbs?

  • Klasse ! Das waren noch Abenteuer damals wenn was funtzte ..

Hatte ein Datatronics 2400`er aus Usa damals am 8Mhz XT mit

    gefaktem Post-Label :-)

    Toller Film .. super gemacht.

  • @111Freebird

Danke für die Blumen :) N 2400er hatte ich dann an meinem Amiga 1000 *g*

  • This is so fucking aweseome! I wish I could travel back in time to the 80's for this :D

  • @pastorrtom

Thanks :) But Remember, it wasn't always a peace of cake in the old days - sometimes I had to dial for 1.5 hours to get in the BBS... ;) With rotary phone and *no* autodial hardware *g*

  • @quipzz You could use that time to do something artistic, play a guitar and drink some beer XD When something took longer time to load, you appreciated it more :) I miss the 80's! Nowadays, less appreciation, faster and shorter pleasures, looks good, but has no real depth :P Its kinda sad

  • jaja so hat ahcker Karl Koch Gehackt !

  • I used to put my mouth near the coupler and scream, "AAAAAH!" when my dad was using a coupler modem. Garbage would come across the screen and he would say, "Would you stop that?!"

  • @jruddock

*g* the other way around here - my dad screamed when he got the telephone bill :)

  • need dual cores to keep track of jews tho

  • Wonderful.

  • I remember when I was younger I had a Commodore 64c and The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Infocom, ah...what days :)

  • @sygo7g

    Thanks! :)

  • What is the second song?? I LOVE it!

  • @stunlord

From the demo Fanta in Space by Fanta. Have a look at the credits at the end of the video for the song list...

  • @nathanallan1 I'm only 14 and received a commodore 64 with 5 inch floppy drive from my uncle. My parents were shocked how quickly I was able to use it, I'm learning how to make programs now. I'd rather play the c64 than an xbox

  • @austatarimaster

    Great!

  • @austatarimaster i am nerd too lol

  • so far in my life thats the coolest thing ever i have witnessed

  • @shayanrafizadeh Agreed.

  • THIS IS SO COOL!

  • It's been like at least 25 years that I haven't seen that kind of modem! I was in 6th grade when I first saw one of those!

  • I love MAD!!!

  • @jellytoo84

Yep - and it's the MAD WarGames cover of course *g*

  • nice! true old-school, although I'm just 23yo, but I had c64 at home, and when I was ant 2nd class [1995] , we had zx-spectrum computers , and teacher showed us few times how to connect to BBS !!! =) My first computer was c64, a little latter when 386ibm came to home, through dialup my main space was FIDO!!! oh gosh these days was golden!

  • @Holms

Yess - FIDO was great! Lots of superb discussion groups (games, racing, etc)

  • Super!!!!!

  • what's the music?

  • @flagg87

Have a look at the credits at the end of the video ;)

  • Today's kids would be utterly lost without a point and click network of friends LOL
