Una voz "espectacular", una Gran cantante!!!Talento excepcional!!! Barbara, tu música me ha acompañado en mi juventud, cuando aún "soñaba"...!!!! Gracias!!!
Barbara, you have been my consistant companion every day of my life for 20 years. Please, be a part of my life on my Youtube Channel. I know you never knew it, but your music has been like a best friend to me. I am inviting you. You are always welcome on my Youtube Channel. Thank you for the time you have spent with me, that you never knew about. :)
From Time Warner Presents the Earth Day Special, Barbra Streisand delivers a spectacular intro, written by Dr. Carl Sagan and Ann Druyan --- then returns with "One Day," written just for this show by Streisand's longtime musical partners, Michel Legrand and Alan and Marilyn Bergman. Cool!
I remember this 1990 "Earth Day" television special: a star-studded event with multiple vignettes about the preservation of our planet. Ms. Streisand closed the show with this wonderful number, a spectacular return to her television roots. The direction is breathtaking, with the spectrum of the earth's flora and fauna on film, but Streisand herself on what looks like monochrome videotape. When she finishes the last line "that will be the day," I always tear up. A truly lovely sequence.
"One Day" Is one of the most haunting of Michel LeGrand, Allan and Marilyn Bergman's compositions! This piece is one of the great musical works of this idiom.. and it is very difficult to obtain the music. Barbra's interpretation is THE definitive one. The voice --and soul-- of Barbra is a national treasure.
@JD03ish It's from Burt Bacharach song *A house is not a home*. It's medley with with 'One less bell to answer' on 'Barbra Joan Streisand' cd.' Also on Youtube as live version from a TV special.
Is there really a reason for people to leave unkind comments? If you don't like Babs...why listen? I love listening to her...if I didn't I wouldn't listen.
Over thirty years ago Ms Streisand entered a shop own by a friend of mine, She was not happy with his detachment, she said to him "Do you know who I am"? Barbra, the World knows who you are! Thank you for the many pleasures.
"One Day" is a fantastic song written by Michel Legrand, unfortunately Barbra didn´t give this song a place on an album...by the way, I love it if Barbra sings songs by Michel Legrand! For me, the Bergmans, Legrand and Streisand are soulmates...

@NoMind87 Well...yo opino lo mismo.Es una de las pocas mujeres a lo largo de la historia de la música y del arte en general que ha impuesto su propia identidad por encima de toda mentalidad masculina.Ha convertido su nariz en su máximo exponente...Brava!
I wish they could just pare this down to just her voice.....I love it lush, but sometimes, just her voice, without all the mechanical manipulations and added background....would be nice to hear.
Barbra Streisand is my nr 1 ! The best female singer-actress ever in my opinion ./ and this video is so great and reminds me allways to our briljant lady when i hear her speak in the beginning with such intelligence and her soft ,warm voice is a Gods blessing to hear. NR 1

Wow! Some weird comments so far. What a blessing to be alive to witness, first hand, her amazing contributions.

it's an unreleased vocal track that is put over a new arrangement. listen to her voice starting at 1:50. especially 2:00, 2:30, 2:40, 3:23. this is a young barbra, not even in her "a star is born" voice yet.
i agree. as a barbra fan(atic) for 20 years, her voice has different techniques and tonal qualities from 60's until today (for me her voice was in full bloom from 1983-1985 where her sound reached the pinnacle of beauty unparalled in the history of music). going back, her "someday, somehere intro was clearly 90's, quivery, nervous and tremulous..but her "one day, the stars.."is very early 70's sound! regardless, barbra is THE best singer, unmatched, unparalled...
this was filmed in 1990, but the audio of the song "one day" was recorded around 1972, she's lip-syncing a song that had recorded 18 years prior. if you're a barbra fanatic, close your eyes and listen to her voice, you'll be able to tell that this is not a 50 year old barbra singing.
Lip-syncing yes, but to a song recorded 18 yrs. prior? I'm skeptical; from which albums' recording sessions are you speaking that Barbra recorded this song?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
this is definetely young Barbra singing unless there are ways to do "voice lifting". Not that her Voice today is not magnificent, but this Voice in this clip is Streisand in early 70s.
I think you may be right. I have all her CDs and it is possible to pinpoint time due to how her voice has 'altered' over the years...but, because she didn't sing 'Somewhere' until the 1980s I think the intro may be a later recording...this clip is from an American TV special about how we are wrecking our only home (I think Bette Midler, who has done sterling work leading a clean-up campaign in New York's Central Park, played the 'doomed Earth'). And let's face facts, we are wrecking it...
Never heard this song beofre I love it.. and it shows something different in Barbra. One thinks of all the movies she might have made over the years instead of the very few.. especially musicals... its a shame really.
Anyone know who write this song... is it a Michel Legrand /Bergman number?
what a wonderful surprise to hear Barbra sing a song that is new to me and that I never knew existed. She is a true miracle and our lives have been enriched by her presence.
One Day is a great song! Sony/Columbia please release all of Streisand's music videos on DVD. Where is Yentl and Live in concert 2006 at?? Why does it take so long for Streisand fans to ge their material released!!
Barbra is just the best ! and if you ever will have the chance to see her live then i say : you must !!! She is extraordanary and in my eyes she was and is still a funny girl with a huge gift . love Babs, hehe.....
such common sense and wisdom...why oh why oh why are billions spent on space programmes when people on THIS planet are starving and need help in learning to love?!!!
Do I need to answer this? Some people want to starve and don't care about what happens to them. They'd rather not work. They'd rather do drugs and be dependent on welfare programs. The others who are sick and dying --we can help and the government is not deaf to their plight. Millions of people die everyday of other causes besides starvation. We can't control what happens to all of them. No matter how much we care. All we can do is pray for them.
All of us on this earth have choices to make. I do not condone the ones who are mentally or terribly sick. But we are human beings. I've seen/met people who'd rather beg everyday rather than work.
We have searched the sky for signals...but, as far as we looked, there is only one place in the entire universe, where the miracle of life exist - Our own planet Earth! WOW! Every time I watch this video opening with Barbra saying those words I got goose-bumps all over! What a voice, even speaking Barbra gets us thrilled! LOVE YOU BARBRA!
the first earth day must've been 20 years ago... when i saw barbra sing this song -- i wished that one day i would watch this over and over, and buy the record.... thank you for showing this, i've been waiting years... but why wasn't this song released? one of the most beautiful songs barbra has ever sung... should've been the theme to a movie.. and won an oscar.
Barbra, your fantastic. To me your voice will always be identified as one of the greatest in the world! It doesn't matter when it was recorded but it sounds like this was recorded around the time of NUTS. Excellent!
When I first saw this when it aired, I immediately felt that the age of the voice in the recording didn't match Barbra's sound in the present. When she says "you'll see", it is just a sound that her voice had from 1969-1975. I can't remember who the producer or arranger was, Marty Paich I think. I think she recorded it at the same time she recorded What are you doing...
Chime in, what do other people think or know about the actual date of the audio recording?
If I also remember correctly, John Arrias is credited as re-mixing the song in the credits. At the time of the broadcast he had just finished working on all the re-mixes of Barbra's unreleased material for JFTR.

it's an unreleased vocal track that is put over a new arrangement. listen to her voice starting at 1:50. especially 2:00, 2:30, 2:40, 3:23. this is a young barbra, not even in her "a star is born" voice yet.
hurleywilliam 3 years ago
i agree. as a barbra fan(atic) for 20 years, her voice has different techniques and tonal qualities from 60's until today (for me her voice was in full bloom from 1983-1985 where her sound reached the pinnacle of beauty unparalled in the history of music). going back, her "someday, somehere intro was clearly 90's, quivery, nervous and tremulous..but her "one day, the stars.."is very early 70's sound! regardless, barbra is THE best singer, unmatched, unparalled...

I LOVE STREISAND!!!
this was filmed in 1990, but the audio of the song "one day" was recorded around 1972, she's lip-syncing a song that had recorded 18 years prior. if you're a barbra fanatic, close your eyes and listen to her voice, you'll be able to tell that this is not a 50 year old barbra singing.
it's especially noticeable at 2:30
hurleywilliam 3 years ago
Lip-syncing yes, but to a song recorded 18 yrs. prior? I'm skeptical; from which albums' recording sessions are you speaking that Barbra recorded this song?

this is definetely young Barbra singing unless there are ways to do "voice lifting".

She is a true miracle and our lives have been enriched by her presence.

such common sense and wisdom...why oh why oh why are billions spent on space programmes when people on THIS planet are starving and need help in learning to love?!!!
maz59 4 years ago 5
Do I need to answer this? Some people want to starve and don't care about what happens to them. They'd rather not work. They'd rather do drugs and be dependent on welfare programs. The others who are sick and dying --we can help and the government is not deaf to their plight. Millions of people die everyday of other causes besides starvation. We can't control what happens to all of them. No matter how much we care. All we can do is pray for them.

Pray for them? After trashing them?
Monrocsol 4 years ago
All of us on this earth have choices to make. I do not condone the ones who are mentally or terribly sick. But we are human beings. I've seen/met people who'd rather beg everyday rather than work.

Barbra, your fantastic. To me your voice will always be identified as one of the greatest in the world! It doesn't matter when it was recorded but it sounds like this was recorded around the time of NUTS. Excellent!

Fantastic!!!
yentl50 4 years ago
When I first saw this when it aired, I immediately felt that the age of the voice in the recording didn't match Barbra's sound in the present. When she says "you'll see", it is just a sound that her voice had from 1969-1975. I can't remember who the producer or arranger was, Marty Paich I think. I think she recorded it at the same time she recorded What are you doing...
Chime in, what do other people think or know about the actual date of the audio recording?
dfotia 4 years ago
If I also remember correctly, John Arrias is credited as re-mixing the song in the credits. At the time of the broadcast he had just finished working on all the re-mixes of Barbra's unreleased material for JFTR.
dfotia 4 years ago
Just watching this now, I thought the same thing. I actually thought her voice sounded much like it did a little earlier around 1965 or 67.
