  • what fender p bass is that?

  • very similar bass with Paul McCartney's Another day, great.

  • This is really fucking great, I've seen a few cunts on here thinking they were good but your the dogs cock, awesome playing

  • Great job man. I love the bass. Is this the Standard or Special P?

  • Wow! I just looked at this again. Your fingerwork is just beautiful. Can you try Lovely Rita? So hard for me to do. Not sure what Paul was thinking at the time, but the lines are all over the fret board. Thanks.

  • Great job. This song is much more complicated then some would guess. But that goes for a lot of Pauls songs, solo/Beatles, he wasn't trying to be all in the spotlight, when it came to his bass. He did his thing, but didn't showboat, in my opinion he didn't. But he really has a quality approach to every song when it comes to the bass. Even the lesser complicated ones, he doesn't make it predictable. And you played it well, and you're very nice looking :)

  • I love this video, so cool... n' saw it lots of times... Why? 'cause I used to play bass when was on High School, here, in Brazil...

  • How come you don't play a Rickenbacker with the McCartney songs?

  • Shit hot

  • Nice tone modelling skills and tightness in the play along.

  • I just got my Rickenbacker 4001c64s and you are kicking my ass with this but you got it on dead on!!!!! Thanks for such a great lesson and video!!!!!!

  • GOOD JOB I Really Enjoyed~Thanks For Sharing~....

  • Looooved it, bassowman, very very much, congratulations, guy... I love the sound of bass, since I played tuba at High School... Go ahead! See ya...

  • Thanks, love Paul's bass lines but I've never really heard the one on this song. You play it really great!

  • I may have commented on this already but my god I love this bass line!!!! And you play it perfectly too. LOVE IT.

  • when i heard this song for the first time, i get amazed by the bassline

  • perfect!

  • Really enjoyed that.

  • Nice playing and beautiful tone!

  • are you looking at the tabs?

  • Bravo! makin' Macca proud

  • AH ITS A BUG lol pual rocks....smothly of course

  • awsome mate, imagine how good you would sound if you were having fun!! hehe

love the control you have over the muting.

  • wow, i think that paul is not dead, PAUL IS THIS GUY!

    YOU'RE AMAZING!

  • I was so impressed with your sound I bought the same preamp. Can you tell me what your settings are? Do you use the Aural Exciter?

  • I agree with you 100% on Ringo being underated.

I think the planets were aligned perfectly to bring these four truly blessed individuals together.....something like this would happen for the next hundred years. Music now is so much garbage it's not even funny nor worth commenting on.

    Lady Gaga? PLEEZ!

My garbage disposal clanking my spoons to pieces sounds better than her singing voice!

  • Play with your fingers man,its much much better..

  • Fantastic tone! Really beautiful playing. This is the best I've ever heard roundwounds sound. Are they nickle?

  • Bassowman, I play bass, and can keep up with complicated stuff, but I never use my little finger on the fretboard. I notice that you do use the little finger. Was that hard to do at first? I find it very difficult to get enough pressure out of my little finger, but I know I should use it, in order to be a proper bass player..

  • Props to you sir! I just had my 2 year old come up and say "Daddy want 'Another Day'". Before the final note had sounded she was snoring in my arms.

  • Man, I love the bass lines in this song.....pretty challenging to learn! Sounds great!

  • Very Good, Congratulations!

  • good job

  • p.s - are they flatwounds on it?

  • @dofane Thanks! No, just worn round wounds.

  • Excellent as is your "Something" cover.

How about doing the bass to "I Want You" please?

  • well done, as a devout Macca fan (and left handed bass player with a Rickenbacker) I can verify that is as near to 100% as you can get

  • I'm a big Macca fan as well. Yeah people don't believe me when I tell them what a bastard he is on the bass. You outta get a Ric. I have two. Just a '09 Fireglo 4003, and a '09 4001c64s (the McCartney model) and put T & I flats on it with a regular high gain pickup installed and it has the perfect Wings sound. Great Video mate!!!!!

  • Very musically done. That's the best compliment I can think of.

  • Loved it!

  • Thanks, in this vid you can see how complex the bass line really is for this song.

  • Man, this is fantastic. VERY well done, and you're right, nobody writes such melodic and wonderful walking bass lines as Paul! =D

  • That bass sounds so good. But I guess you can make every bass sound good. trevligt spel... Or how ever you say it :-)

  • Congratulations, it was very nice. I always wanted to play that song with my bass, but i couldn't hear the bass line so well in the record. Now i have the reference, thanks.

  • beautifully done! that sounded like Paul in his prime!

  • Nice playing . Nice P bass

  • whats the difference between a bass and a guitar?

  • @gerlitochagas A bass has a thicker gauge string, ideal for backing up the guitar tracks, so to speak. It just gives a songs a much rounder, fuller sound, when there's contrast in pitch ( bass is obviously deeper). A guitar has a thinner gauge string, ideal for solos and lead, as well as rhythm playing (higher pitch). Usually, a bass has 4 strings, but they can vary from 4, 5, 6, 7, and even more strings. Guitars run from 6 strings to 12. However the bass is still in the guitar family.

  • I like the palm muting in this video because you make those rounwounds sound like flats and even like Paul's Rick!

  • Beautiful job on an overlooked bass masterpiece.

  • It's a struggle, but you managed to play the bass lines of the whole song.

  • Bravo!

    More Paul!

  • Well done! Nice sound.

  • Paul McCartney has been so underrated as a bass player, damn shame...he really is good!

Listen to the bass line in Taxman....

  • @junito65 He always was a guitar player before all, as such, his bass lines were highly elaborate arrangements. He took the bass when the fab-4 because neither John nor George wanted to be the bassist.

  • @junito65 who ever underated Paul as a bass player???its Ringo who's always underated,he's my favourite rock drummer..

  • @junito65 hell yeah! Taxman and Something have wicked cool bass lines that never get noticed..

  • @junito65 He was a Beatle! he was not nor is he underrated, where do you live? leave the cave now and again!

  • @junito65 I agree, Paul is one of the greatest bass players, could play both virtously or plain smashed potatoes but Geroge was the one that played the bass in Taxman and Old Brown Shoe! I'm not lying.

  • @artmonkid George did'nt play the bass in Taxman track, thought he did it in rehearsal of this song, while Paul was writing the guitar solo (he plays solo guitar on the track). Sorry for my poor English, I hope you understand me.

  • The Beatles are one thing and Paul's bass lines, the more I hear them, are yet another. What an unerring sense for interesting and melodic lines. I read an interview with Miles Davis once where he said the only two Rock artists he liked were David Bowie and Paul Mccartney. He said about Mccartney 'That guy can write songs and really knows how to play the bass '. Very true. Hit the soccer ball for about three seconds in the middle of the song. It sounds so much nicer when you turn it back off.

  • what a bass line!! Paul's definitely got the best ear for melody. Great Job!!

  • Great job.

  • you emulate very well the sound of flatwounds, I think its all in the fingers

  • Very nice Bass cover! I enjoyed playing the acoustic guitar part to your Bass lines. Check my cover of this song out. They would sound good mixed together! Great Job! -BC

  • Great man

  • Best bass cover guy from youtube

  • @justnynke88

check out David Vinson doing a Gino Vannelli

  • Cool! Great playing :D

  • What can we learn from Paul? Maybe that the bass guitar is the best instrument to write songs with!

What an amazing bass composition, and Paul sang too while playing this. Intense!

  • Like all the others I enjoy your fantastic precision. Credits. Funny how you pick the same bass icon like I do. These melodic bass line. I wonder if you are aware of the danish bass player Jens Rugsted. He played in a band named Rugsted and Kreutzfeldt. Check him out. Scandinavian, too

  • very nice

  • Very nice.

  • Fantastic

  • Paul is my favourite bass player ever.

  • Cool cool job man!

  • Spot on perfect. I think I'll take 10 minutes tomorrow to learn this. Ha!

    Thanks for posting this.

  • awesome! good job :)

  • Gorgeous bass part. Nice job. McCartney was on his game with that one. One of his best post Beatles compositions.

  • This sounds spot on! Really, perfectly done.

  • good job! but you have to show what are you doing, we can't see

  • Really appreciate your fine performance and dedicated study in your craft! A true traditionalist! Paul himself would say, "Great job Mate!"

  • I bet you can't do that left-handed!!! Only kidding. great job.

  • I like your sound. This is the kind of sound I'd like to get out of my P-Bass. Would you mind if I ask what brand and gauge of strings you're using in this video?

  • Great job dude!! That's some very solid playing. That has "Pro" written all over it! You carry a very seasoned style. Right on.

  • Nice bass, thats the model that Sting plays I think... Nice sound.

  • joli ! mais le plus dur est de la chanter ! non ?!

  • Do you use effect in this cover?

And What amp are u use?

    Thx

  • its sooo damn great! very nice job then!

  • Ladies and gentlemen...the e-bass most beautiful in the world!

  • omg..GOOD JOB!!!

  • Great stuff to listen to - well done!

  • excellent! I've fingered those notes through many years, myself... maybe someday I'll learn to actually play!!

  • get a jazz!

  • The most acurate bass cover. Easy to follow. Thanks for posting. Very helpful!

  • "Great" i need see you played "Rain" of Beatles. Congratulation!

  • I've already commented before, but I must comment again and say that you did a wonderful job... Very nice touch!

  • beautiful tone dude, can u tell me ur set up and amp and stuff? im a bass player myself

  • nicely played, and you got that precision to kick out a fantastic tone. What effects/settings did you use to get it to sound like that.

  • Thanks! I used my SWR Grand Prix valve preamp and run it into the computer, no other effects. That preamp has a very versatile EQ section. Another important thing for the sound is the light gauge pick that I use.

  • is that standard tuning? the open "E" string sounded deeper than i'm used to. I'm also working on a Solo Bass (victor wooten type deal) for this song. any suggestions? (like imitating that neat synth effect in the chorus along with the bass line playing)

  • It is standard tuning. I'm impressed you consider doing a solo bass thing out of this. Good luck!

  • Excuse me but you paly very well and you're so cute too!

  • well done! were you reading or was that from memory?

  • Tnx! I was reading my own transcription.

  • Fantastic !!! Amazing bassline!

  • I like your feel and sound. :)

  • Also nice done! And one of my fave Macca songs. Sounds a lot like his bass on that song (a Rick?) Either way, nicely done, man.

  • Sounds good though...

  • Yeah I doubt this guy is having his door knocked down for brides for that wedding cake...

  • Dude, great cover! I need you, or possibly Macca himself (it's a long shot), to come to my house and give me lessons. :)

  • Your house is like a giant wedding cake.

  • Macca is the greatest genius of pop music. This bassline sounds like classical strings set. Paul is God!!!!!

  • Good job.

  • i see you like to decorate.

  • Linha Melodica do baixo perfeita, simétrica. Coisas dos Deus.

  • how we love paul, master of melody, giving the world common threads ot pop brilliance across generations.

  • what year is that bass? very nice.

  • Tnx, it's a 1966-er.

  • cool

  • Nice work and not a pick hater comment in at least the past 20 entries! Now that's saying something.

  • love your bass a lot!!

  • I love your sound and you make my day! Thanks man!

  • great job! ..love your sound

  • Wow! Awsome job, man!

  • Or perhaps the bedroom is where they keep their computer. Regardless, it's irrelevant.

I loved the video. Love the song. Need to find my old McCartney solo stuff and play it again. Thanks for sharing.

  • Beautifoul Bass.

  • Nice job!

  • i LOVE this song... it actually overides alot of beatle songs for me... can tell your digging it to... cant stop smiling haha

  • Tutorial??-...please!!! :-)

  • Nice mate, pretty nice. And your jazz+amps sounds really great. 5*

  • The absolute PERFECT P bass tone!! You rock!!

  • WoW Great !!!

  • Comment removed

  • amazing!! great job!

  • you are really good. Keep posting these videos for us....

  • Love it!

  • We will never be able to see such melodic

rarities, as long as popular music is in the hands of know-all doctors and their entourage. Free forms of music are as much opposed to classical norms as a swaying poppy is to a plastic bouquet in a vase.

  • AWESOME man

  • hey great playing, nice bass.

like your version of teen town.

1 question: what bass is better (what do you think)

    precision bass or jazz bass?

  • The J is probably a little more versatile. I love my P for its raw funkiness:-)

  • your account name is my last name with "ass" in it

  • :-)

  • Excellent work! Nice playing!

P.S.: Your bass looks almost exactly like the Roger Waters' bass used in Pink Floyd's album "Live at pompeii". How did it cost?

  • Thanks! Yeah, I think he used a Precision there. It's probably cheaper to buy a brand new one:-)

  • Great job! Melodic and beautiful bassline.

  • Excellent! You must have a deeper appreciation of Paul McCartney and how he arranges his songs. Your playing is terrific! Thanks very much for this!

  • NICE

  • hey! the bass sound is so great i enjoyed this cover very much. wow!

  • The amazing thing about Paul was that he was inventing these brilliant and wholly original basslines right from the beginning, from the first Beatle singles, even back on the Star Club recordings when he was a teenager. Just a God-given genius for the art.

  • Sounds good mate!

  • Marry me

  • it just another bass cover, but very good:)

  • If people couldnt see you most of them would never know you were Not playing a rick. Excellent job. I have been watching you for two days trying to get that damn run after the first verse. Could you please tab it out for me? Thanks.,

    Mike

  • Thanks! I don't do tabs though.

  • Perfect !!!

  • Terrific job man!

  • Lol ? with a pic...

  • Paul is just a really tasty bass player. Just when you get comfortable with the simplicity of something he's doing within the context of a song, he rips out a little lick that makes you go 'wow' .. Check out the riff bassowman does around 2:00

  • Nice!

  • magnifico!

  • Muito!

  • Do you by any chance tabs this one!?? I'd love to learn that. Or do you know of a place online where they have some good tabs for this song. I loved how you played it. Awesome job!

  • awesome bassist

  • It's so fun to see you playing. Great!!!!!

  • Magnifico!

  • Também acho!

  • always stunning

  • perfect tone on the bass

  • really cool basswork, i play bass too but not as well as you :)

  • Excellent work sir!

  • Great job!!! Awesome tone. Did you record DI, or with an amp?

To my ears, roundwound strings sound better, even though they can be harder on the frets (especially on a Rickenbacker), and the fingers. I like a clear, punchy bass sound, which is why I also use a pick (heavy).

  • Well done bass brotha.

  • Stunning, well done, i could only hope to play that precise.... macca was the bass man!

  • i really like basses.. but i have one question.. is it hard to play bass because its not the same as the song..you know .. ?

  • CONGRATULATIONS MAN! YOU'RE AWSOME. You have just made me feel like going back to that song.

    Jaime

    from Argentina

  • Very nicely done.

  • well done!! keep up your playing and showing your video to us
