@5dmc1 Well, the individual who designed this probably died about 150 years ago. When they put in those tracks there were no buildings, automobiles and probably nothing but a dirt path and a bunch of horses and wagons if that. It's unfortunate that this "whoever" you speak of did not anticipate paved roads, automobiles and individuals such as 5dmc1 on YouTube who second guess him.
WOW there was a town in northern Victoria that used to have the railway running up the main street just like your vid I will try to find out which town it was
@aces9876 Why? When this track went in there were no roads. No automobiles. Probably a horse path. In most of North America the railroads preceeded roadways by years and the automobile by decades.
@thecatsfan15 So are you. I work for a railroad and I have never seen that. And for your stupid smartass mouth. I simply ASKED a question. That is "Do you even know trains" there is nothing wrong with that. So take your statement and sove it up your ass.
@bnsf9379 sove? i dont know what sove is.. And "if" you happen to work for the railroad... do you think they would take kindly to the kinda of white trash mouth you have? I dont think so.. so take this comment.. and "sove" it up your ass
@bnsf9379 The locomotive is ex Southern Railway, control stands are reversed for LHF operation. Calm down and educate yourself so you wont sound like an idiot next time.
And you cant drive a train. That suggests there's a steering wheel of some sort. You operate or run it.
@guitars14 Actual I work for a railroad and WE DO use the term "Drive"
Just like the wheels on a steam where called drivers- so to is the engineer now on diesels. It's an internal vernacular term used in the industry with some railroad companies. So perhaps you should educate yourself before before you sound like a idiot with Railroad operation terms.
@bnsf9379 You may work for a railroad, but not one based in North America if you use the term "drive". The term for the individual operating the controls of a locomotive in North America is "engineer". You "run" or "operate" a locomotive. You do not "drive" it. Outside of North America you would be correct in many cases.
@bnsf9379 What a douche you are. Some foamer, don't even know that NS has their locomotives configured with dual control stands. How bout you shut up and do some research first before opening your mouth and sounding like an idiot.
@bnsf9379 maybe you should learn a thing or two before you make yourself look bad. Rsideballa75 knows exactly what the hell he is talking about but obviously you don't know shit. Go to school and learn something....Smartass
@brickulater why? are you too stupid not to drive in front of a train? I'm sure the citizens of Augusta are very happy you choose not to visit their town.
Who was in charge of railroad management here? Why is a track like that in the middle of a busy street? You would think that they would have a grade crossing or something to prevent idiots like the driver of the Nissan Sentra from doing things like that.
@RaptorSVT411hp This is not a railroad management issue. It is the cities responsibility to determine road crossing protection. What was decided here was that taxpayers do not need to pay to prevent the idiots from driving into the side of a train moving at about 5mph. The hundreds of thousands of dollards grade crossing gates cost could be better spent where there is more congestion at higher speeds.
I laughed out loud a bit at that poor cat running over the tracks at 1:05. I thought the people were madmen, but looks like cats do some crazy stunts too.
That's why those trains go so slow. There is a train that runs down the middle of a busy street and across a major road in my city, and it doesn't have its own lane like this one does, and it goes like 5mph because people like to race it. It's annoying as hell to be stuck waiting for it to pass.
I live in Augusta too, and yes, these trains can be annoying. But definitely not worth risking your life on trying to beat one. Even at these slow speeds, they're past in just a few minutes. And BTW, if you're on one of these cross streets, you would be glad that they're only going 2 MPH or whatever. Even with the horns and all, you'd be surprised at how 'quickly' they appear from behind the buildings.
Id like to see a guy who engineered this. "No i dont see anything weird about a railway locomotive in the middle of a busy street!" "My next project is to put runway on the parking lot of Walmart and then i think ships, in the outside lane on the motorway" Genius this bloke i must say!!
@jetmano Well, you would have to go back to about 1850 to meet this guy. There are no roads or automobiles or busy streets. There is just the railroad. Then streets and houses and businesses were built around it. Yeah, this genius bloke was just too stupid to understand that the automobile and busy streets would be there 100 years later. And he certainly didn't anticipate jetmano and his ignorant comments on youtube.
@Boss302fan I did mean it as a joke, i know pretty well theres reason for it being in the middle of the road - but if youre that stupid or ignorant that you didnt get it - your problem... you might as well be 1850 guy :)
this is soo stupid people dont give any respect to train they treat it like that its just a normal car i dont believe this shit this is soo lame and rail track is in the middle of street with no railroad crossing gates WTF
Why the hell is there a railroad in the middle of a street like that!? Shouldn't that be in a forest at the edge of town? ...and where's the railroad crossing gates?
@johnathanpunk7 Street running is not to common anymore, there used to be one in my city until 1993 and people were just as dumb about almost getting hit!

This is so weird. We don't have anything like this is England. Level crossings, yes. But nothing with the train driving down the center of a busy road with no barriers or warnings. Is this a common thing in America?
what the hell!!! why would someone build a rail track INSIDE a street!?! can't the train be tracked around the city somehow? the tracks appered to be in pretty bad shape anyway,so if the train went elsewere the cars could go safely and maybe the train could go faster than walking speed. I'd do a last second crossing too rather then to wait for hours until the train passed. right now this is the worst possible solution for both train and car!!
@michaausleipzig No, the question is: Why they would put a street in the railroad right-of-way. Fat chance the railroad built the tracks earlier than the city putting a street on this area.
oh okay ... well if it happened this way it reminds me of a situation we had in my city ... 100 years ago. early rail tracks were shifted out of the way of urban growth. for safety reasons ... 100 years ago... it's videos like this that keep reminding me that the US really is the cutting-edge all-powerful world leader...
@michaausleipzig I'm sure the rail was built before this street and this part of the town. I suppose there was no place around it to build a new rail there.
Given the low speeds I doubt there could be any serious accidents here - but could it be worth wiring up the traffic signals so cars 300 feet or so infront of the train's path are held? PS There is an unused tram line in a town near me - they ran a full size train on it once. Imagine this video, but going through tiny English streets
There are PLENTY of abandoned rr tracks running in and along city streets in many older cities and towns.....There's absolutely NO EXCUSE to have a train running thru the middle of any street in modern times, especially this century.........
@matty8371 Those abandoned tracks no longer serve active customers. But there are many, many street running locations in cities and ports throughout the world. In this case what suggestion do you have. You want the city to spend millions of dollars of taxpayer dollars to reroute a line that runs a train or two a day? Is that the way you want your tax dollars wisely spent? Or would you rather those millions go elsewhere?
@matty8371 You also have to look at how much miles of abandoned track has to be replaced, maintained & see if the diesel locomotives can run on them. People know the train comes threw once in a blue moon or two like how Boss302fan said. The money to spend is not worth it, it's the idiots crossing like 5ft in front of a moving train playing chicken.
@ElfenSky I've seen street running in Australia, Brazil, Mexico, Canada, Scotland, England, Khazakstn and Argentina. So, not just "Americans"....huh?
@Boss302fan ... I wasn't talking about street running, there are enough idiots all over the world to do that... I was talking about the "Bright" idea of building train rails in the middle of the city...
@ElfenSky "street running" is the term used for railroads running down the middle of the street. Again, all over the world there are lines like this. Usually the railroad was built first and the roads came afterward. It isn't an "American" thing.
It looks like the street lights are changing to GREEN allowing cars to cross the tracks as the train is close to the intersection. Why wouldn't the town set the lights so they turn RED for the crossing street when the train is about to cross the intersection? The train is probably doing only ~5 mph, so it can be close, but it would stop the stupid stuff that was filmed in this video.
@video0101010 Absolutely. I agree. This moron back in 1850 did not have the intellect to look beyond horse and wagon and envision paved streets and automobiles. What a stupid ass. He was instead trying to bring the railroad into a tiny community so passengers and freight could come in. And he certainly should have looked ahead to YouTube and Mr. video0101010 and be aware that 150 or so years later he would be called a moron.
@Boss302fan Excuse me, maybe i need to explain further for the simpletons like Boss302fan. In this modern age why would city planners and city officials keep the railroad tracks going though the middle of a busy street??? If the train was underground or above ground there would be nearly no chance of a stupid driver of a car running into it. So excuse me if i offended your simple little mind.
@video0101010 Your poorly thought out email did not offend me in the least as it simply shows your lack of any understanding in the expense involved. The city would have to spend tens of millions to reroute this train that probably moves through this area once or twice a day. Cities throughout the world instead choose to take that taxpayer money and do far more good with it than reroute a low density branchline.
@mrsunkizt Did you mean to ask the more intelligent question of "Why did the city planners back in 1850 decide to build streets for horses and wagons next to a railroad?"
@applejacksss No. A disaster waiting to happen is driving side by side at 70mph on the interstate with truckers. This is a fender bender that might possibly happen. And learn your history. Normally the railroads were built to serve small communities that eventually grew up around them. Augusta is a nice town on a river and the railroad there just serves an industrial area.

what the hell!!! why would someone build a rail track INSIDE a street!?! can't the train be tracked around the city somehow? the tracks appered to be in pretty bad shape anyway,so if the train went elsewere the cars could go safely and maybe the train could go faster than walking speed. I'd do a last second crossing too rather then to wait for hours until the train passed. right now this is the worst possible solution for both train and car!!
michaausleipzig 3 weeks ago
@michaausleipzig No, the question is: Why they would put a street in the railroad right-of-way. Fat chance the railroad built the tracks earlier than the city putting a street on this area.

@purpleravenstar
oh okay ... well if it happened this way it reminds me of a situation we had in my city ... 100 years ago. early rail tracks were shifted out of the way of urban growth. for safety reasons ... 100 years ago... it's videos like this that keep reminding me that the US really is the cutting-edge all-powerful world leader...
michaausleipzig 3 weeks ago
@michaausleipzig I'm sure the rail was built before this street and this part of the town. I suppose there was no place around it to build a new rail there.

Given the low speeds I doubt there could be any serious accidents here - but could it be worth wiring up the traffic signals so cars 300 feet or so infront of the train's path are held? PS There is an unused tram line in a town near me - they ran a full size train on it once. Imagine this video, but going through tiny English streets

There are PLENTY of abandoned rr tracks running in and along city streets in many older cities and towns.....There's absolutely NO EXCUSE to have a train running thru the middle of any street in modern times, especially this century.........
matty8371 4 weeks ago
@matty8371 actually it weeds out the people who race trains
residentevil742 4 weeks ago
@matty8371 Those abandoned tracks no longer serve active customers. But there are many, many street running locations in cities and ports throughout the world. In this case what suggestion do you have. You want the city to spend millions of dollars of taxpayer dollars to reroute a line that runs a train or two a day? Is that the way you want your tax dollars wisely spent? Or would you rather those millions go elsewhere?
Boss302fan 4 weeks ago
@matty8371 You also have to look at how much miles of abandoned track has to be replaced, maintained & see if the diesel locomotives can run on them. People know the train comes threw once in a blue moon or two like how Boss302fan said. The money to spend is not worth it, it's the idiots crossing like 5ft in front of a moving train playing chicken.

wtf is train doing in middle of road 0_0? I could understand a tram... But a fking train? not even a passenger one... wtf... Americans, huh?
ElfenSky 1 month ago
@ElfenSky I've seen street running in Australia, Brazil, Mexico, Canada, Scotland, England, Khazakstn and Argentina. So, not just "Americans"....huh?
Boss302fan 1 month ago
@Boss302fan ... I wasn't talking about street running, there are enough idiots all over the world to do that... I was talking about the "Bright" idea of building train rails in the middle of the city...
ElfenSky 1 month ago
@ElfenSky "street running" is the term used for railroads running down the middle of the street. Again, all over the world there are lines like this. Usually the railroad was built first and the roads came afterward. It isn't an "American" thing.
Boss302fan 1 month ago
It looks like the street lights are changing to GREEN allowing cars to cross the tracks as the train is close to the intersection. Why wouldn't the town set the lights so they turn RED for the crossing street when the train is about to cross the intersection? The train is probably doing only ~5 mph, so it can be close, but it would stop the stupid stuff that was filmed in this video.

What kind of a moron puts train tracks down the middle of a street?
video0101010 1 month ago
@video0101010 Absolutely. I agree. This moron back in 1850 did not have the intellect to look beyond horse and wagon and envision paved streets and automobiles. What a stupid ass. He was instead trying to bring the railroad into a tiny community so passengers and freight could come in. And he certainly should have looked ahead to YouTube and Mr. video0101010 and be aware that 150 or so years later he would be called a moron.
Boss302fan 1 month ago
@Boss302fan Excuse me, maybe i need to explain further for the simpletons like Boss302fan. In this modern age why would city planners and city officials keep the railroad tracks going though the middle of a busy street??? If the train was underground or above ground there would be nearly no chance of a stupid driver of a car running into it. So excuse me if i offended your simple little mind.
video0101010 1 month ago
@video0101010 Your poorly thought out email did not offend me in the least as it simply shows your lack of any understanding in the expense involved. The city would have to spend tens of millions to reroute this train that probably moves through this area once or twice a day. Cities throughout the world instead choose to take that taxpayer money and do far more good with it than reroute a low density branchline.

@mrsunkizt Did you mean to ask the more intelligent question of "Why did the city planners back in 1850 decide to build streets for horses and wagons next to a railroad?"
Boss302fan 4 weeks ago
@mrsunkizt The train track was surely here before this street.

horrible place to build a town, or horrible place to put the train... either way thats just a disaster waiting to happen
applejacksss 1 month ago
@applejacksss No. A disaster waiting to happen is driving side by side at 70mph on the interstate with truckers. This is a fender bender that might possibly happen. And learn your history. Normally the railroads were built to serve small communities that eventually grew up around them. Augusta is a nice town on a river and the railroad there just serves an industrial area.
