I gave a few coins expecting them to go but they wanted more and would not leave.I had made the situation worse. Later in the city centre, a beggar with child in tow followed me for a few hundred meteres before a passing police car turned around and the officers nicked her. @iughreuigh I live in India I do know, I'm a white teenaged male and Whenever I'm in a rickshaw all the beggars follow my rickshaw and poke at me and I try to ignore them, some of them have stolen my stuff while in a rickshaw, but yes I know India is developing quite rapidly but still it needs a lot of work. The reason they do that is a lot of people would prefer paying them off and losing their track. The other simpler way you can negate this problem is to not pay them any heed in the first place. As cruel as it may seem, if you don't give them any attention they will never bother you. This is a tactic many locals like me use everyday.

The switch from Socialism to Capitalism is a long and hard process.
