Hey, you said that Nei has no connection to the weapons. This is true. Perhaps the same word has different meanings, though like with our language sometimes. On her profile it says it means "The human who was not a human" then in PSIII the sages claim that it is "the word of ultimate power". (Yeah that which even screws up your name!)
I've got to wonder if the same name is shared in the Japanese releases. It would be pretty screwy if they aren't.
@kfeaston138 The version of the trick I heard didn't involve the party dying. Just Nei never being attacked after reviving her. Given Neifirst's attacks either target a random person (at best 1/4 chance of hitting Nei if everyone's alive) or everyone, this has always seemed like a tough ask. Maybe it can be made to work if she's Dew'd just before Neifirst is about to die? Either way I'll say again that I've never tried it myself so it might not be how the age-old-but-forgotten Nei glitch works.
@Miraglyth just tried that and it didnt work either.... I tried it where she was dewed right before Rolf dies and she kills her as soon as shes revived without being touched (by herself) and all that did was give a ghost party again and I did it with Rolf as well and still no Nei. oh well guess you really cant bring her back...
That shouldn't be too hard to accomplish with save states. It'd be nice if she could be paralyzed though... But even on just the stronger regular enemies Rimit / Silentshot miss a lot... Gotta wonder about Doran affecting her accuracy however but it'd make sense it wouldn't do anything. Almost none of the bosses in this or IV are affected by stuff you'd typically use against weaker enemies.
the Nei trick didnt work it just gave me a ghost party and when it automatically takes you to the clone lab it just revived all my people without Nei. For a second or two when the ghost party walks into Paseo, you see a flash of a weird colored Nei then it goes back to ghost party
oh yeah, the weird part about leveling Nei up is that it took like 32,000 exp to get from level 41 to 42 but once she gets to level 42 she only needs 16,000 exp to get to level 43. weird....
finally got Nei up to level 42 so she has 164 HP. 230,000 exp points! I also got a moon dew I want to try the moon dew trick if i know it right. Its where you kill everyone but Rolf and have him use moon dew on Nei during the Neifirst fight (group not solo) then have Rolf die right?
ha my comments are still here from 3 years ago when I use to log on youtube as maxhardcore lol! Im going to try and fuq up Neifirst with Nei again 3 years later!
I like to do this little challenge myself every few years and I am actually doing it right now. However, I see a glitch on your youtube though, you show us your items and you have no fibervest in your inventory and you have a useless pair of sandals in your inventory bag instead. However, when you show us your strength screen, you are equipped with the fiber vest. So wtf bro?
@kfeaston138 wtf indeed... I know the video is one recording but I can't recall the precise reason if any for this one. I posted an infodump of all kinds of weird and wonderful quirks to the game (such as the Strength stat being useless - there is another real strength stat that's proportionally similar for each character but not displayed in the menu) which I recall had something to do with equipment, but this was long before GameFAQs boards kept everything and has disappeared.
@Miraglyth you're right the strength stat is useless because i do less damage with a sword than 2 knives even though my attack power level is higher with the sword and Rudo isnt a super badass with knives like he would suppose to have been due to his super high strength levels.
What is all these special quirks you speak of? where can i find a link with them? I remember 4 years ago when i did this (and the posts are still here on this video on the last pages as maxhardcore lol)
@kfeaston138 Yeah, posts here survived, but they were posted on GameFAQs which used to purge old topics until around 2009.
By quirks I just meant a bunch of weird things (e.g. the flag the game used to force Nei in/out of the party at the Reorganise menu is also used for Neifirst's presence in Climatrol so code-wise she does have a dependant existence of sorts).
As for the once-infamous Nei glitch: Apparently (I never tried it) if you do the Moon Dew trick and Nei never gets hit, she stays.
when i first played this game back in the day, i remember keeping a save right before this fight to lvl nei up eventually to not die, I never got around to it. I knew it could be done, kudos for you to actually do it so that i can see it. I always wanted to know if she'd still die. It makes me happy to see that Nei went out in proper form the way your video shows.
I know it was meant to be, but when I was 12, I always felt I let Nei down, and I shoulda done more to prepare her:P
I might've used resetting to get the most out of the "power level ups" (each character gets them every nth level).

It's also worth noting that previous FF games had some of party members too. 2 had about three, 4 and 5 had one each. 6 as well depending on your choices through the game.
7 was just more notorious for being the first "mainstream" one, I guess.
@Miraglyth I think the reason with why Aeris's death was such a big factor of Final Fantasy VII was becuase she was the main character in the games plot, she was the one meant to stop Meteor, yet she still died. The cahracters that died in Final Fantasy IV weren't as important.
I always wanted to use some sort of narration for Phantasy Star--it sort of writes itself, the way the game can get so frustrating, and the AI can be such a bitch. Great video!
The PS2 remakes of the first two games do add more intra-party dialog by way of a skit-like "Consult" option, but they're Japan-only.
Truth be told, the original PS series (at least, if you ignore III) would lend itself brilliantly to a Final Fantasy-like set of DS remakes with this kind of addition.
The only trouble is Sega's forgot the original series existed. Recently they released "Phantasy Star 0" (Zero) that they claimed "returns to the series' origins" ...but is based off PS Online.
There is the infamous (well, almost unknown...) "Nei glitch" which requires you to:
• Have Nei lose to Neifirst.
• Use a Moon Dew on Nei in the following battle.
• Defeat Neifirst *without Nei being attacked*.
Then the game will mysteriously forget to remove her from the party and, so long as you never use the "reorganise" your party at Rolf's house, you get to keep her, nerfed as she is. That means you need to decide youf final party before taking Neifirst out.
hahahahah, that is pretty weird that the game would miss removing her. Maybe since she already died, they figured, hey... no possible way they'd get moon dew... she can't come back, that's the end of it.
I see your point about not being able to re-organize... but, wow, that would be fun--using Nei throughout Dezo and the rest of the game!!! :O
She kicks ass and takes names.... even IF she's "Nei2nd". :D
Trouble is she still caps at 50, and its a significantly weaker 50 than everyone else's. She doesn't get any new gear either (except the prison clothes).
But it makes for a good "challenge" game to keep Nei around.
I tried this out recently. I reloaded each time Neifirst targetted Nei or did her hit-all hand attack, but she was still removed from my party. I checked immediately after talking to the commander and did not return to Rolf's house. I went back to the clinic to see if she was listed as being able to be revived, but she was not. She wasn't listed under "state" on the status screen, either.
Is there anything else required to keep her alive afterwards?
theironlego wrote: "holy crap, that musta taken a long time to level up nei to be able to destroy neifirst XD. Btw, How do u make custom dialogue? i really wanna know because i wanna make my phantasy star 2 into having dialouge."
The dialog was added in the video editing process. There's no way the game itself could have done this! XD
Neifirst still usually goes first despite Nei being overleveled. Nevermind the fact that Neifirst sometimes manages to remove more than 50% of Nei's Max HP with one blow. Seriously, her sword attack is scary.
Yeah, the kicker is levelling enough to be able to take two of those sword hits. Then if you take one you can heal and even if she goes first you won't die.
I wish ALL Japanese rpgs would show the enemy HP, they almost never do that.
I beat Neifirst with Nei only the same way, w/ lots of trimates. I healed EVERY TIME she hit me, even w/ the weaker clawing, didn't wanna take any chances!
i loved this game...LOVED IT!!! i dont care that it sounds silly that i was SAD to lose Nei lol. even with the cheat codes where she can fight with the group against neifirst (or this scenario whichi was never able to achieve) she still dies after the battle, that was the only think i didnt like about this otherwise classic game!
i played this game the hard way on mega drive, only i was like level 45 on rolf then i quit getting megid was awesome though, collecting those Nei items was hell so i had no choice but to quit!!!! soo much homework left undone cause of this obsessioned game :(, lucky i saw the ending on you tube... its all i wanted to see now i know :) yay
but i gotta say that video was awesome!! and funny lol!!!
i tried beating neifirst but she just dang strong lol!!! 2hits and i was dead lol,
Here's a little-known fact: It takes less than half the Experience Points to max out Nei's experience level than it does to max out any other PC's experience level. That is how I was able to defeat Neifirst without using any cheat codes.
It was joke dialogue I added myself, as noted in the video comment. The game wasn't capable of battle speech like that (and for speech that detailed, no game is to date :P )
Shit beating NeiFirst last month was one of the hardest things Ive ever done. I got her up to 180,000 exp. That shit sucked luckily I was getting paid $10 an hour to do it working night audit at the hotel! lol
This game has to be played on a megadrive, not a f*cking ps2. I played this game night and day on the megadrive (genesis). Must be hard for some 'cause this game is older then school. Nice video, though!
I've played the original almost every way other than MD, lol. I hope to get the JP version soon (mostly for the box art) but damn I'll have to deal with those pounding drums!
@SashuRui Lol. It was a hard game on the MD. The dungeons are like mazes, especially the ones on dezo. It was pure luck that Shir stole the visiphone om my third playthrough. Made it a lot more forgiving. I actually started to make my own maps when I played it on the Dreamcast (one of those Sega collection discs), wich I completed for every dungeon when I played it again on my xbox 360! So like you I played the game on multiple consoles, but none was as rewarding as on the MD.
Just a question...did Xenosaga TAKE this idea and use it in Episode II? I didn't play through the game yet, but through some spoilers, KOS-MOS ends up fighting an android that looks similar to her; however, the opposing android sports a different color...
This game deserves WAY more credit than what it's getting...
this is taking forver to gain her up she needs over 25G exp just to level up now after level 38. I am so sick of Uzo island right now!!! Rolf, Rudo and Anna are on level 20 and I havent even fought neifirst yet we are gonna smash her ass
this is ridiculous I finally got Nei up to level 28 (All my characters up to 120G exp this took for ever!) but my Nei isnt as good as yours except mine has 160 ATK. She only got 148 Hp but has 75TP but this sucks I gotta probably gain 3 or 4 more levels before I can fight Neifirst cause you need over 160HP.
You can use a little trick without cheating. Just get the visaphone and save the game just before leveling up, if not happy with the given stats, simply restart the game and level up again ;-)
By the way holy crap about the experience points! Damn near 130000? Wow I have been kicking butt all night and all I have her at is 30000! This is gonna take some discipline to get her that high!
Hey I heard you can ressurect Nei if you use a moon dew on her during the battle with Neifirst. I am attempting this soon. I have Nei at level 30 and I am at the part where you have to get that plant for the gum. SO in the next day or so I will let you know what happens when I get there.
She ges revived in battle but afterward she dies regardless, only 2 ways to keep her alive, GameGenie for origional or In ps2 bersion in Japan get 100%
what do you mean get 100% ? is the remake have a grading scale or % score unlike the original? Also she probably would be a shitty character anyways because she cant use any better weapons then what she dies with so I guess it doesnt matter.
In Phantasy Star Generation II, if you complete the game *and* have a complete PSG1 save on the memory card, you can start a new PSG2 game and - if you do everything you can possibly do including see every line of NPC dialog up to Climatrol - be able to keep Nei alive after Neifirst.
It's a non-canon "bonus" feature, of course, but pretty cool. She even gets new weapons and gear later on in the game, and her own ending screen.
Actually, you could keep her in the party in the Genesis version, but it required high levels and STUPID luck.
Basically, do the Moon Dew trick and then kill Neifirst WITHOUT NEI GETTING HIT. She'll somehow remain in the party afterwards, and you can finish the game with her so long as you never visit Rolf's house (so you need to do it all with the party that beat Neifirst).
I play PS2 for the first time now and Neifirst was so hard. I forgot to use the Visiphone, Neifirst killed me of course and I had to go through the whole dungeon again. xD
The talking-part you added was very good, too. I liked it. Thanks for uploading.
Also how come no one has any youtubes about Phantasy Star 3? I would like to see all 4 endings. I remember as a kid I saw 3 of the 4 but I never saw it with the 3/4 Orakian character.
The two big pictures of Nei's face with the red and starry backgrounds are what I was referring to. Also explained if you decline the Neifirst fight - Nei cannot survive without Neifirst.
And I know almost nobody who actually likes PSIII.
thats a shame I think PS3 is my favaorate one. It takes a minute to get use to it compared to the other PS's but it sucks you in. it is one of my all time favorate RPGs
I agree with Max on that. I had at first thought that Phantasy Star 3 was too clumsy of a game, but then after giving it a little time (and figuring out how much techniques in that game cost), I've gotten farther in 3 than I ever did in 2. I still like the whole series, though.
ok after watching the whole thing, there's no way these comments were part of the game. it's cool how you entered them though. makes it more fun to watch. :)
so does it change the outcome? or does it still pretend like she won? Is the cinema scene different? Did you do the same thing with the robots that capture you? if so any cinema differences? Also out of curiousity, Im 24 how old are all of you? I remeer playing this game when I was 10 or so when it came out. Are all of you my age or younger?
It changes the dialogue slightly and you get the two "sad" pictures back-to-back instead of the "real" Neifirst fight between them. Ultimately though, Nei still dies (as explained a little better in the changed dialogue).
it has been so long since i played this game. What were the scenes you are referring to? and also why cant you beat the robots if you could beat neifirst? Like I said it has been about 5 years since I played this game. How does the dialogue explain her death if she won? You shouold youtube that dialogue.
He's right. I beat her legit on GBA. It was rather easy. Nei's level caps off at 50. I took her to the max while monitoring her stats. Nei First didn't have a chance in hell.
I've been monitoring the stat difference between levels. So far its like practically never the same. I wonder if its worth it to fight the luck of the draw...
What the hell... Now my Nei is stronger in every way but hp, str, and ment. But I still cant win. This is very frustraiting. She always does a premtive strike with that sword and busts my ass down to 75 hp or less. Lv 40 and still can't win. I'm not gonna stop till Nei puts that bitch in a coffin.
I had a couple of dud runs when recording this, by the way. Until you break 175 HP or so (by which point you can take two whip hits) there's no guarantee she won't take you from full to 0 in two turns before you can reasonably get a Trimate in.
i remember playing this game when i was years ago makes me feel old now watching that..still i never actually beat Neifirst with Nei..but it's good see u could actually beat her with just Nei :D.
i wish the PS1 and PS2 generation titles could have made it worldwide instead of just japan!
Actually you can Kill Neifirst with only Nei, but it ends the same way anyway and it requires a glitch as well to do it, and if doing as games suppose to be you can ress her when Rolf&co fights her but she dies anyway/swt
"Actually you can Kill Neifirst with only Nei, but it ends the same way anyway and it requires a glitch as well to do it" <-- No it doesn't. Just needs a high-level Nei loaded with Trimates.
wait a minute, wait a minute... how did you do that? Is this a different version from the actual genesis cartridge version? How did you beat her? Was that possible in the original? I'm telling you, I was actually pretty depressed over this back in 8th grade when she died. (I was pretty emo back in those days - but I guess, who wasn't, in jr hgh right?) I wasted so much game time daydreaming up ways I could try to keep her alive. No dice. I was bummed. It was happy to see this... 16 years later!
oh, ok. I was so stoked seeing this that I didn't bother to read the rest of the comments. Still, it was nice to see though. So was it actually possible to beat Neifirst by leveling up, in the original?
They have remade PSI and PSII under their "Sega Ages" line of PS2 remakes. They're not full "zomg awesome 3D and 60 hour" fleshed out remakes, but they are considerable upgrades with an especially good addition for us Nei fans.
So isn't it something like Nei can't live without Neifirst or something that kills Nei anyway? I still think as a reward for building her up so much the people of Sega should have made her keepable after the NF fight. :(
Nice. I managed to level up Nei enough to kill Neifirst back in the day (1990?) too.
Considering it's not a time attack, you could have upped the viewer's entertainment value by slowing down the precombat dialogue. I would have showed the alternate postcombat Nei death sequence too.
Damn series never did make it clear what's so special about Nei that all the weapons you collect in the end (as well as the end of PSIII) are named after her.
The dialogue zoom was due to space. I figured users who cared to read it could pause.
For some reason when making this I wasn't fond of the idea of giving out spoilers, completely forgetting this game is nearly two decades old >.> The extra scene would've made a good addition, too. Darnit.
I've heard a few things about the weapons that amount to them not being "named after the character", and these do make sense considering the character has zero connection to the weapons.
thanks for that video, actualy Nei is also one of my favorite heroine and it's true you couldn't revive her theoricaly but there was a glitch that made you capable to keep her in your team. Unfortunately without new equipment and progression, she becomes quickly weak in comparison with the others.
Actually unlike certain heroine deaths, Nei's has pretty much zero impact on the rest of the story. This is how they could so easily make her resurrectable in the JP onry PS2 "Phantasy Star Generation 2" remake.
Good shit....too bad Nei still dies.....

Miraglyth 3 years ago
But to answer you question, no. Beating Neifirst with Nei does not change the outcome. It's just awesome.
Miraglyth 3 years ago
hahahahah, that is pretty weird that the game would miss removing her.
greytale 3 years ago
Trouble is she still caps at 50, and its a significantly weaker 50 than everyone else's. She doesn't get any new gear either (except the prison clothes).
But it makes for a good "challenge" game to keep Nei around.
Miraglyth 3 years ago
That also makes sense since the game designers expected... uh... that she was brown bread, road nachos, pushin' up daisies. :)
greytale 3 years ago
I tried this out recently. I reloaded each time Neifirst targetted Nei or did her hit-all hand attack, but she was still removed from my party. I checked immediately after talking to the commander and did not return to Rolf's house. I went back to the clinic to see if she was listed as being able to be revived, but she was not. She wasn't listed under "state" on the status screen, either.
Is there anything else required to keep her alive afterwards?
Awesome vid, by the way. :)

no way! no effin way! I tried so many times when I was a kid to defeat Nei First with just Nei and never could!

Neifirst still usually goes first despite Nei being overleveled. Nevermind the fact that Neifirst sometimes manages to remove more than 50% of Nei's Max HP with one blow. Seriously, her sword attack is scary.
Crystalgate 3 years ago
Yeah, the kicker is levelling enough to be able to take two of those sword hits. Then if you take one you can heal and even if she goes first you won't die.

i tried beating neifirst but she just dang strong lol!!! 2hits and i was dead lol,

Here's a little-known fact: It takes less than half the Experience Points to max out Nei's experience level than it does to max out any other PC's experience level. That is how I was able to defeat Neifirst without using any cheat codes.

SashuRui 1 month ago
@SashuRui Lol. It was a hard game on the MD. The dungeons are like mazes, especially the ones on dezo. It was pure luck that Shir stole the visiphone om my third playthrough. Made it a lot more forgiving. I actually started to make my own maps when I played it on the Dreamcast (one of those Sega collection discs), wich I completed for every dungeon when I played it again on my xbox 360! So like you I played the game on multiple consoles, but none was as rewarding as on the MD.

I didn't know you could use items during battle!

MaxHardcore138 4 years ago
That'll teach her to wear a blue leotard. Who does she think she is, Belinda Carsile?
CinnabonChan 4 years ago
this is taking forver to gain her up she needs over 25G exp just to level up now after level 38. I am so sick of Uzo island right now!!! Rolf, Rudo and Anna are on level 20 and I havent even fought neifirst yet we are gonna smash her ass
MaxHardcore138 4 years ago
this is ridiculous I finally got Nei up to level 28 (All my characters up to 120G exp this took for ever!) but my Nei isnt as good as yours except mine has 160 ATK. She only got 148 Hp but has 75TP but this sucks I gotta probably gain 3 or 4 more levels before I can fight Neifirst cause you need over 160HP.
MaxHardcore138 4 years ago
i mean level 38
MaxHardcore138 4 years ago
You can use a little trick without cheating. Just get the visaphone and save the game just before leveling up, if not happy with the given stats, simply restart the game and level up again ;-)
suckcocksinhell 4 years ago
By the way holy crap about the experience points! Damn near 130000? Wow I have been kicking butt all night and all I have her at is 30000! This is gonna take some discipline to get her that high!
MaxHardcore138 4 years ago
Hey I heard you can ressurect Nei if you use a moon dew on her during the battle with Neifirst. I am attempting this soon. I have Nei at level 30 and I am at the part where you have to get that plant for the gum. SO in the next day or so I will let you know what happens when I get there.
MaxHardcore138 4 years ago
She ges revived in battle but afterward she dies regardless, only 2 ways to keep her alive, GameGenie for origional or In ps2 bersion in Japan get 100%
DarkAlucard356 4 years ago
what do you mean get 100% ? is the remake have a grading scale or % score unlike the original? Also she probably would be a shitty character anyways because she cant use any better weapons then what she dies with so I guess it doesnt matter.
MaxHardcore138 4 years ago
In Phantasy Star Generation II, if you complete the game *and* have a complete PSG1 save on the memory card, you can start a new PSG2 game and - if you do everything you can possibly do including see every line of NPC dialog up to Climatrol - be able to keep Nei alive after Neifirst.
It's a non-canon "bonus" feature, of course, but pretty cool. She even gets new weapons and gear later on in the game, and her own ending screen.
Miraglyth 4 years ago
Actually, you could keep her in the party in the Genesis version, but it required high levels and STUPID luck.
Basically, do the Moon Dew trick and then kill Neifirst WITHOUT NEI GETTING HIT. She'll somehow remain in the party afterwards, and you can finish the game with her so long as you never visit Rolf's house (so you need to do it all with the party that beat Neifirst).

MaxHardcore138 4 years ago
The two big pictures of Nei's face with the red and starry backgrounds are what I was referring to. Also explained if you decline the Neifirst fight - Nei cannot survive without Neifirst.
And I know almost nobody who actually likes PSIII.
Miraglyth 4 years ago
thats a shame I think PS3 is my favaorate one. It takes a minute to get use to it compared to the other PS's but it sucks you in. it is one of my all time favorate RPGs
MaxHardcore138 4 years ago
I agree with Max on that. I had at first thought that Phantasy Star 3 was too clumsy of a game, but then after giving it a little time (and figuring out how much techniques in that game cost), I've gotten farther in 3 than I ever did in 2. I still like the whole series, though.
Kaffekane 4 years ago
PS3 isn't bad imo but it's like not like 2 or 4 at all. I just thought the multi paths were nice.

so does it change the outcome? or does it still pretend like she won? Is the cinema scene different? Did you do the same thing with the robots that capture you? if so any cinema differences? Also out of curiousity, Im 24 how old are all of you? I remeer playing this game when I was 10 or so when it came out. Are all of you my age or younger?
MaxHardcore138 4 years ago
It changes the dialogue slightly and you get the two "sad" pictures back-to-back instead of the "real" Neifirst fight between them. Ultimately though, Nei still dies (as explained a little better in the changed dialogue).
You absolutely cannot beat the capture robots.
Miraglyth 4 years ago
it has been so long since i played this game. What were the scenes you are referring to? and also why cant you beat the robots if you could beat neifirst? Like I said it has been about 5 years since I played this game. How does the dialogue explain her death if she won? You shouold youtube that dialogue.

Neifirst has ridiculous stats. I dont see how u can kill her with nei alone. Maybe some hack is needed.
tubefan1234 4 years ago
What the hell? Is the video of me beating her legit (and all the FAQ mentions of it being possible at high enough levels) not proof enough for you?
Miraglyth 4 years ago
He's right. I beat her legit on GBA. It was rather easy. Nei's level caps off at 50. I took her to the max while monitoring her stats. Nei First didn't have a chance in hell.
millgiass 3 years ago
I've been monitoring the stat difference between levels. So far its like practically never the same. I wonder if its worth it to fight the luck of the draw...
millgiass 4 years ago
What the hell... Now my Nei is stronger in every way but hp, str, and ment. But I still cant win. This is very frustraiting. She always does a premtive strike with that sword and busts my ass down to 75 hp or less. Lv 40 and still can't win. I'm not gonna stop till Nei puts that bitch in a coffin.
millgiass 4 years ago
I had a couple of dud runs when recording this, by the way. Until you break 175 HP or so (by which point you can take two whip hits) there's no guarantee she won't take you from full to 0 in two turns before you can reasonably get a Trimate in.
Miraglyth 4 years ago
What gives? Your Nei is 38, HP:162, T:70, STR:138, Ment:73, AGI:85. Luck:69, Dex:70, Atk: 155, def 109
My Nei is higher lv and wearing the same gear but is significantly lower in most stats. Shes..
39, HP 145, TP 71, STR: 124, Ment:63, Agi:82,Luck: 63, Atk: 167, Def:106. And as I said we both wear jwl rib,lasr barx2, fibervest, and knifeboots...
millgiass 4 years ago
Stat gains per level up in this game are wildly random. I've taken multiple Rolfs to level 50 and they've all been disturbingly different.
The best thing you can do is reset it at the "big boost" levels until you get a decent level up.
Miraglyth 4 years ago

Actually you can Kill Neifirst with only Nei, but it ends the same way anyway and it requires a glitch as well to do it, and if doing as games suppose to be you can ress her when Rolf&co fights her but she dies anyway/swt

wait a minute, wait a minute... how did you do that? Is this a different version from the actual genesis cartridge version? How did you beat her? Was that possible in the original? I'm telling you, I was actually pretty depressed over this back in 8th grade when she died. (I was pretty emo back in those days - but I guess, who wasn't, in jr hgh right?) I wasted so much game time daydreaming up ways I could try to keep her alive. No dice. I was bummed. It was happy to see this... 16 years later!
allrequiredfields 4 years ago
oh, ok. I was so stoked seeing this that I didn't bother to read the rest of the comments. Still, it was nice to see though. So was it actually possible to beat Neifirst by leveling up, in the original?

Yep. It starts being viable around level 36 or so with a full stack of Trimates but of course the higher you go, the easier it gets.

Blaster spam is the way to go!
Miraglyth 5 years ago
Nice. I managed to level up Nei enough to kill Neifirst back in the day (1990?) too.
Considering it's not a time attack, you could have upped the viewer's entertainment value by slowing down the precombat dialogue. I would have showed the alternate postcombat Nei death sequence too.
Damn series never did make it clear what's so special about Nei that all the weapons you collect in the end (as well as the end of PSIII) are named after her.
soma0574 5 years ago
The dialogue zoom was due to space. I figured users who cared to read it could pause.
For some reason when making this I wasn't fond of the idea of giving out spoilers, completely forgetting this game is nearly two decades old >.> The extra scene would've made a good addition, too. Darnit.
I've heard a few things about the weapons that amount to them not being "named after the character", and these do make sense considering the character has zero connection to the weapons.
Miraglyth 5 years ago
thanks for that video, actualy Nei is also one of my favorite heroine and it's true you couldn't revive her theoricaly but there was a glitch that made you capable to keep her in your team.
