@lisztnut well i don't think the general populace has enough discretionary income to enjoy such pastimes. but there is a growing 'middle class' w pretensions to 'high society' and western affectations. if i recall there was a concert here with some has-been from the west who was about 60 or 70 and it was packed out. tickets were really expensive too. i think 100usd. so maybe there is a market cos of the rarity factor for western musicians.

@nguyenimproved well, that's encouraging news. Actually, the 'has been" was most likely someone REALLY famous in the West, and someone I would know. Maybe you don't keep up with Classical music, and don't know this legend..? As far as I'm concerned, I'd pay big bucks to hear an established artist way before hearing a prodigy. Prodigies don't impress me. They play like trained monkeys!

@lisztnut he wasnt a classical musician. just a singer from the west. i think he was past his glory days and couldnt get a gig in the west or something. actually most ppl that went couldnt even understand him i heard. yes the viets appreciate the old legends and not the new stuff so much.

@lisztnut there is already open acceptance of gays (be de) socially. they are not hassled. but theyre mainly the queen type. very flamboyant and colourful. they're often hired for openings, ceremonies etc as entertainers and singers. not officially tho. its still a commy country so i dont think gay marriage is on the horizon for the forseeable future lol. ppl have more pressing concerns anyway as its not fully developed. animal rights, gay lobbies, other junk movements of the west havent arrived

@lisztnut you're 100% wrong sir. i visited sao paolo, brazil's most populous city and there is a whole town full of japanese people. there are many japs there. not many at all in rio de janeiro where i was a novelty. there are many asians in developed parts of western europe such as germany and france. in eastern europe there is less but then again asians like to go where the action is and these countries are economically and politically not very powerful. there are still many viets in czech rep

@nguyenimproved Well, it's possible. I've primary traveled in Argentina, and there were almost no Asians. I saw a few, but they were common store owners, and certainly hadn't made it up the ladder. Also, didn't see a single Asian in Chile. I think that Asian pianists are now invading Moscow to study, especially Chinese.
