gotta love 1990s wrestling when they keep ringing the bell over and over at the end of the match when the heel starts beating on the face after the match
you guys crack me up! It was all part of the storyline. BRET WAS SUPPOSED TO HATE AMERICANS!!!!!! HE IS BOTH AMERICAN AND CANADIAN. Vince and Bret thought it was a great idea to have this Canadian Vs American war.
This had to be a humiliating loss for Del Wilkes. If I were booking this match I would have found a way for him to save face and certainly would not have had him lose via submission.
@Foamhead Even though that's the result of the match, I never saw him give. No tap. No shaking the head yes. Didn't hear a verbal submission. Nothing.
They should have kept him around and gave him something. He was WCW tag team champion. Just another case of WWF/E taking good wrestlers and treating them like shit. And he was there for 4 months before he got injured.
This probably wasn't very scientific wrestling, but it was really obvious that Bret was a lot better wrestler than the Patriot was. The Sharpshooter that the Patriot tried was very poorly executed. You can't let your opponent pull your feet like Bret did. Bret did a true Sharpshooter after and Owen was performing great ones too.
@Rollermacka- I was thinking that too. Didn't Ken Shamrock introduce the "tap out" to submission holds in the WWF when he debuted? This clearly should've been a tap out spot. In the early 90's it was more likely for the guy to just say "yes" to the ref asking if he wanted to give it up.
no bret hart didnt whine at all it was is character to whine as thats what vince asked him to do... and i can honestly tell u bret was never on drugs the only time he had pain killers in his 13 year career with the wwe was when he broke his sternum and was out of action for 6 weeks bk in 1991
@ilanrobinson Actually Bret admitted he took steriods early in his career and commented that he looked better when he was off steroids, that he looked heavy when he was on them. Depressed the hell out of me when I heard it. That and then he said he cheated on his wife several times. You are right though that everything was scripted and I am suspicious that the Montreal Screw Job was scripted too.
Bret was the best whether he was heel or face, just not in WCW since they had no clue how to use him. Well Hogan did know how to use him anyway, he just threw him in his shadow where he thought he belonged. Which wasn't good for WCW, since many fans like myself wanted to see Bret vs and beat Hogan.
6:00 is that the ref's non-kayfabe cue to tell Bret to end the assault?

Anyone ever notice that the excessive ringing of the bell during a schmoz or a DQ finish never solved the problem?

THIS IS HOW YOU GET HEAT AS A HEEL!
God the wrestlers now a days cant even get some cheap heat, the heels suck today.
The last great true heel was JBL. Bret Hart was an awesome heel, he has the knowledge of what will piss off fans. Great Match.

The only bad thing about the Hart Foundation angle is that it put Lawler into the position where he had to cheer for Bret, which felt odd at best.
gokingsgoful 2 years ago
I love the hart foundation as a unit of heels, but my only complaint was Bret. He was a good heel, but at times he whinned excessively.
Goukimessatsu2 2 years ago
@Goukimessatsu2 That was the only way he was going to get people to boo him after 10 years as a face, though.

as the heel Bret was the BEST!!!
in wCw I didnt like him because they put a shity role on him as a liar, ok heel but LIAR, Bret is not a liar, in WWF he was a heel with attitude!!!
