  • @edwardsec It's work fine on my Lion 10.7.2

  • mac mini

  • I tried it, followed all the steps, double checked I did all the steps, and the animations are still choppy. Possibly even worse than it was before. Just for info, i'm running a MBP 2010 with OS X Server (10.6.8)

  • Didn't work.

There is no AppleGraphicsPowerManagement.kext in extensions to disable... so what now?

  • @shadowoflightvideo Its in SYSTEM/Library/extensions go there and rename AppleGraphicsPowerManagement.kext to AppleGraphicsPowerManagement.disable by using CMD+I

  • finally good music not that 009 sound system shit

    Password:

    and :(

  • @olliekill I'm using lion beta

  • @olliekill HI, this means that you enter an incorrect password or not "the root" password. Look in System Preferences, Accounts... or try to create a new administrator account. good luck!

  • i am very curious whether these very very VERY annoying choppy graphics problem will be solved with the final version of 10.7 Lion.... i hope so.... when not my MacBook Pro will be sold on eBay

  • @krylleski I also hope so...

  • Glad to hear it! Straight after boot You are ready to go!

  • I'm not programist but I found solution:download sleepdisplay 2.8 (free) add it to your autorun on start up. I also add little automator program which wake up my screen back. But if some one can make program which sleep our display and wake it up,that would be nice. All power managment settings staythe same.

  • @adas4190 Works great, thanks!

  • I have noticed that you does not have to wait until the screen goes sleep...... everything you have to do is:

    1. Switch with "gfxcardstatus" to automatic switching

    2. Reboot (when you have to reboot your mac)

    3. Switch back to the nVidia Card with "gfxcardstatus"

    4. you're done :)

    Can someone prove that ?

  • ok i've noticed that the choppy animations are back if i restart my MBP 17' 2010...... whereas the *.kext does'nt even is in the extension folder. I have to repeat the step with the 1 minute waiting to make the screen goes to sleep. Then the choppy animations are gone. But as i said..... i have to repeat it everytime i reboot my machine.... any solutions for that ?

  • @krylleski Unfortunately no :(

You must repeat it every time after reboot. As an alternative - you can just put to sleep your mac. I'm doing exactly so.

  • Yeah!

  • Thank you, your fix works on my mac book pro 6,2 with nVidia gt 330. The frame rate of Spaces and Expose is much less choppy.

But it's hard to see in video what directories you are checking. Please include in the description that the System Profiler directory is Software>Extensions. Thanks again!

  • @NotScienceFiction thanks, I've added it into description

  • About battery life: mine dropped a lot (to 4.5-5 hours) BUT the good news is the free gfxcardstatus app allows you to select the integrated Intel graphics. Integrated Intel graphics are NOT affected by your fix, so battery life can be 8-10 hours when you need it.

    thank you again

  • I followed this to the letter, works perfectly now. I had problems with the LG Flatron monitor on wakeup and bootup in terms of the monitor connecting and now being in power saving mode. This is now fixed.

  • will it work on MacBook pro 13 inch late 2010?

  • @aryatololHTF Yes it will, but may decrease battery life (~20min)

  • @TheMEJoshua84

    Oooops! I've got it)))

  • @serjjjioable It happens. Okay :)

  • Perhaps 2 Mon. is too much for the Mini?, or maybe this solution works well with battery powered machines, but no difference in desktops? If anybody gets to make it work in a Mini let me know!

  • @ntbook my mini is connected to 2 monitors (2 ports): Vga for TV and DVI for 22" Benq. Probably, the reson of your problem is HDMI-connection, which is only in mini 2010. if you have Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter - try to connect monitor with it.

  • @TheMEJoshua84

What did you do to fix it, tell, please!?

  • @serjjjioable Don't worry, the difference in work is 20 minutes, but I don't think that the presented solution is the reason of it :) and what do you meant? That's all (i used solution), that I've fixed %)

  • @ntbook

    All is OK. Don't worry!

First: the command, which you need to type (copy/paste) in terminal app:

    sudo mv /System/Library/Extensions/AppleGraphicsPowerManagement.kext/ /System/Library/Extensions/AppleGraphicsPowerManagement.disable

Second: after the reboot, you should to wait until the monitor goes into sleep mode (It is very important!). That's it! Use your mac in normal mode. There are no lags and choppy animation anymore! Enjoy it!

  • Author!!!! Thank you very much for your method! If I were Steve Jobs, I would draw you a check :))))

  • @OldTheMac Thank you !

  • It works!!!!

But, ss for me, I am afraid that I will lose all power management (even with the Intel) when on battery. Will I have problems with battery?

  • @serjjjioable Don't worry about your power management! The time of autonomous working will not reduce. All will be fine. This method works. The tempereture's level in Istat Nano for Dashboard hasn't shown serious temperature's changes in Nortbridge. So all will be fine. Enjoy!

  • Well i have tried this on my MacMini2010 but the same lags are there :(

i've checked AppleGraphicPowerManagement not to be on the list of extensions so i guess i did it right. I guess it works good on macbooks.

To make it back as it was, i had to move the folder .disable to the desktop, change the name manually, put it again on the extensions folder, and then run kext utility and then reboot. (the text on terminal didnt work)

  • @ntbook ok, after you checked AppleGraphicsPo**** not in list - you corrected Power Save option in system preference? Before that steps you ran KextUtility (it repair permission to all kexts and rebuidl kext.mkext)? And after all these actions you wait 1 minute (or what you set manualy in SisPref) until the monitor went into sleep mode? Test yourself on these step. Due to the fact that you copied to the desktop. ".disable" - the command in the terminal was unable to correctly determine the path

  • @dok34lru Yes, I copied the text, insterted the pass, then ran KextUtility, then Rebooted, checked AGPM not on the list, put 1 min to sleepmode, waited 1 min, waked the Mini, but noticed no difference in expose.

I have my Mini with 2 monitors (1 Mon + 1 TV, both at 1080p).

Then i tried several tomes to copy in terminal the text to take it back but terminal said there was no file or folder with that name, so I moved into the desktop, changed manually the extention and move it back to where it was

  • YEAH!!! You're the best!!! Finally i can work on my Macbook Por 13. No lags anymore. Watch my video answer. Thank a lot!

  • @TheMEJoshua84 Thanks, enjoy it !

  • Hi thank you for posting this! I have a couple of questions:

Could it work on a mac mini 2010 with SL 10.6.5?

Can it be undone? if so how can it be undone?

Is it necessary to use kext and caffeine?

    Thanks!!!

  • @ntbook Hi! This solution works on any Nvidia graphics (mac mini 2010 have 320m), therefore, the answer is yes. Yes, it can be undone. You can type in terminal: sudo mv /System/Library/Extensions/AppleGraphicsPowerManagement.disable/ /System/Library/Extensions/AppleGraphicsPowerManagement.kext and everything will return to their seats.

Instead of KextUtility you can do everything manually in the same terminal.app :) This program simply makes life easier. Caffeine is not necessarily too.
