Was at this show , 11th row center. Saw them many times and this was one of the best ...OMG..Radio City Music Hall. Class production start to finish. Sound, Lighting,And ambjence all top notch. One of the best shows I ever saw, and that is saying alot. It was an honor to be there.
Radio City was a magical run for us Deadheads back then...First Acoustic sets in years..seven of us came down from college in Boston for the show, dropped some liquid, and let the music play...however Uncle Johns Band was the encore for Halloween Night, this song was played in the first set...Thanks for posting it though..i love time travelling...
Unless you are in Wisconsin right now, you will not grasp Cold Rain and Snow, the way I feel it right now! I love how this song has a Native American Indian feel!
This is probably the best version of this song in the middle of their career. I am fond of the 60s version...but this just Rocks. Wow, those Sennheiser's sound good on vocals. And either Jer or Bobby does an incredible rhythm lead at 4:21.
Thank you! Was -15 here yesterday and this came to mind lol, will forward this to old friends In Colorado and Minn. and East coast that are buried maybe get some smiles from it. Long time dead head ,a rare thing in these parts lol I keep my integrity by trying to pass it on and smile at the nay sayers. YES True Hippies can have a Life also . Peace Rick In Wichita Kansas.
I was born in SF and have been a deadhead since 1966 - I've gone to the last three Furthur NYE concerts and Phil's 70th birthday. Furthur just doesn't do it for me. I thought they would - but I miss the rhythem devils, I miss Jerry. I sold my NYE tickets at face to some very happy deadheads from Boulder because I knew they really wanted to be there. I get goosebumps when I hear this.
@33vicparis Must be contagious? I have the same goose bumps . And Yes those were/are some Happy! dead heads. Likely friends of mine children still bouncing around . Peace Rick Wichita Ks.
so few words with so much meaning, look Jerry's eyes! This guy was obviously in touch with what he's saying!!! I picture a large woman chasing him out the front door swating with an old broom! Run me out in the cold rain and snow! RAIN AND SNOW Oh Oh Oh OH OH WOE!!!
That man's voice was so silky smooth! There's no reason in the wide wide world that he ought not to have had all the teen aged girls he wanted throwing themselves at him wherever he may roam...
Its because they go in with preconceived notions about The Dead. If you just have this playing without telling people who it is they will dig it. Tell them its The Dead before hand and they never give it a shot.
Holy G Science! Rock on Jerrry. I miss you bro! saw the dead in 91 and it was a nice try, but sad miss, yet I was lucky to see Jerry and the boys as good as they were. I have no regrets or doubts about their skillzs at that point.
Yep; its cold rain outside now, in San Joaquin co., Ca.! Suppose the snow is goin' on , too, but that's miles away from me! This is a "get homework done" inspiration song; for me!
@thebigschott I heard the original faster version in 1967 at the Grand Ballroom in Detroit, ended up seeing them at all three concerts that weekend, then recorded this song later with my group.
Funny you say that. About 15 years ago I was at a gas station in San Diego cranking a version of Cold Rain and Snow while filling up and this guy who had never heard the Dead before came over and said, "That is so good who is that?" I told him and he kept at it with, "How do I get a recording of this?" He was from baja and with his whole family but had to know what that great sound was.
I keep watching this over and over...I can't help myself. And one of their lesser songs, too. This is as perfect ans the Dead ever got,and a good mixer could tone down Bobby's "harmony" and make it perfect. Jerry was at his peak, and was too stoned to know it..lol. Yeah, I miss him every day. Not a bad legacy to leave, Jerry, we could all do so well. Not bad for a bunch of Palo Alto boys.

This whole show was amazing. When they were "on" it was pure magic and when they weren't they were still the best. Like the man said, "There is nothing like a GD show"
