  • It's nice to see who mentored Katie. From greatness comes greatness. Truly an amazing athlete woman and soul. Lynn too! Now must run and take my motion sickness pill.

  • I hope Katie Brown gets 300 million dollars for the Citi commercial after seeing that Albert Pujols got $254 million from the LA Angels because he only gets out 7 times in every ten at bats. Till I googled it, I thought the Citi commercial was fake. But I didn't know there is a Katie Brown. She is awesome! Such determination and talent is astounding.

  • I'm a male climber and Lynn Hill is my biggest inspiration. Her words are beyond wise. I'd love to climb with her someday.

  • perhaps it's not her real name..

  • She's a climber and her surname is Hill, lol XD

  • This is a very nice video, well produced and intriguing to watch. It is both instructive and inspirational. Great job! I was rather fascinated as the more mature and seasoned climber, Lynn HIll, led the younger, Katie Brown, up the rock face gracefully ascending to the summit. How wonderful it would be if in life we all had ropes to catch us when we slip and fall and a guide to cheer us onward and upward. Some might say we do. Upon that I will let you muse and ponder.

  • the wind blowing up the face looks so cool

  • I think she was encouraging herself by saying: "c'mon keep climbing"

  • She is saying "Fuck aid climbing"

  • says "keep climbing" because she wanted to take a break

  • @realcampusman I thought she said 'OK, climbing', as in 'enough of that pulling shit, here's something I can climb'.

  • nice look at 08.53!! mhh

  • What does Katie say at,9:02 ???

  • @thugjuice69 "I hate climbing," i think

  • that tantrum @ 6:47 is interesting

  • Okay for the girls, but how did the camera person get there before them?

  • did anyone else get hear because there reading xtreme sports :rocked out"

  • wow i think i want to go climb something right now

  • So use to watching surfing videos.. this awsome

  • nobody else has been able to repeat?? climbing is many levels higher today since the days of lynn hill!!!

  • Lynn Hill has got balls

  • i am not a climber and the worst thing for me would be trusting the equipement!!!

  • 'TheInGenCO' said "the worst thing for me would be trusting the equipement" We all trust equipment all the time, such as the seat belts after the brakes on a vehicle. The anchor bolts are similar to what holds any structure together. And there is 4:00 showing placing more gear, and doubling that after it did in fact hold a fall. Mostly, climbers learn to trust themselves, as they learn that the equipment will let them get away with errors while they learn.

    Then, there is Alain Robert.

  • This is awesome & inspiring! (I'm a little worried by those earrings, though...)

  • Awesome video, really really enjoyed watching that. Nice little narrative and background with some really decent climbing

  • man she's got some guts doing that climb, i would be freakin out and start to panic

  • the pterodactyl mating call at 6:51 made me slide backwards in my chair just a bit.

  • Haha 9:03 "I hate climbing" hahaha

  • nice pick up! i thought she said 'fucking climbing' though

  • Comment removed

  • @CrunchProductions1 NOT i hate.....FUCK aid climbing

  • is it still "free climbing" when your clipping fixed or pre placed gear? Looks like a good route to collect "free" gear! " "Its a a question of weight ratio!" (monty python in search of the holy grail)

  • You'd be surprised how touchy some parents can be.

  • I intended to show this video to my 8th grade students as a way of encouraging the girls to set goals for themselves.

Due to the language in some comments, if I do I might get fired.

  • @Liberaljamoke

I would probably show it to them. It´s a nice video and the students probably heard worst comments on TV anyway.

  • @Liberaljamoke show it full screen then, they wont be able to read the comments...

  • @WannabePFC

    Its all in your head

  • Lynn has such a cool head when leading like that

  • i love to climb but also share a fear of heights you just have to way out the pros and cons for me the pros always when and im willing to put my fear of heights behind me to get a better view from the top

  • You won't go straight to recon, get that out of your head right now. Nothing irritates a Marine more than "Marine" uncapitalized and some civilian thinking they're going scout/sniper/recon. Chances are you won't get into recon or scout/sniper ever. You need to remember that, and keep in mind they choose Marines with 300's, and they aren't always around. You don't go to them.

Regarding the video, excellent climb, great job! Very insightful and interesting video.

    SGT H.

  • Climbing is an excellent way to get comfortable at heights man. If you can, go to a climbing gym and have a run up their walls. The systems are totally safe and you will get used to being off the ground very fast.

  • lynn seems wayy too uptight.. and full of herself like "she will someday learn from my experiences..."

really lynn? Katie's a BEAST!!! and she's definitely got the motivation and skill.

  • @evanvideo kate will someday learn from lynn's experiances cause lynn has been climbing for so long, keep in mind that lynn was at one point ranked the worlds best female climber. experiances includes mistakes.

  • Lynn seems wat too uptight??? Thats because she does not want to see a younger climber get hurt. Are you aware of who Lyn Hil is and what she has climbed? Lyn Hill pushed the limits of climbing back in the day and is still going hard. I understand what your point but climbing is a serious game at this level.

  • thank you!! she's amazing!!

  • good climbers girls :)

    nice.

  • I love Katie, apologizing for falling and looking stylish with the earrings. Great video.

  • Lynn seems... great climber but probably not too fun to climb with...

  • tisaacso3625

what kind of fun bantering can two persons have when they are fully focused on every move thousands of feet above ground?

I think u are a bit deluded expecting pple to behave certain way just to be interesting, Lynn will probably laugh off yr comment as highschool immaturity..

Anyway seeing how she plays with her child in the water she seems fun, and she knows the Katie girl for yrs so they are not uneasy with silent moments ..

  • very true. I am so different on the rock, I am so focused. I don't talk at all unlike when I am on the ground.

  • what a beautiful climbing!! it seems so easy and elegant when these ladies are climbing.. wow, really admire them :).... hope to be at least half that good as they are

  • you call it a free solo climb, when one person does the climb all alone without protection (rope).

it's a free climb when you only use the equipment you need for your safety...

    i hope that helps

(sorry for my english ;-) )

  • I love watching/reading climbing stuff but don't climb myself. Can someone explain the difference between a solo climb and free climbing etc? What do you call someone who climbs with no protection? Is that free climbing? I guess not because in the description is says this is a free climb?

  • does she say "GD climbing" at like 9:05?

  • holy crap look at lynn's biceps at the end!!!

  • what do you find so amaising about that biceps???

nothing agianst lynn, but thats actually a very small biceps!

The size has nothing to do with strengh, but lynn is a small light woman, so she doesnt need that much strengh!

  • Axe2Dome & jfats100! Your comments are completely IDIOTIC! I'd punch you two if I was able to!!!

  • So inspirational! Wow!

  • Nice climb Lynn & Kate, got some ovaries to do that. Im in love with climbing, everything about it is exciting. I do it as much as I can, aswell as to get rid of my fear of heights. Keep us updated with more Vids =).

  • These chicks are awesome. Good effort

  • lynn hill is ripped

  • how do they get down ?

  • How do you get down from a ladder once you are at the top?

  • Wow!! Thats great.

  • i'd like to see you bone heads try this climb and see really has balls!

  • Jim a video can arouse someone regardless of its intent. And a girl can be hot reglardless of what the video is about ;). Get over it.

  • Lynn's personality might be though to endure.

  • lol that bell sound in the soundtrack is a garageband loop

  • Respect !

  • Great job! El Cap is calling..........

  • But probably true

  • This is good but I'd rather watch Dan Osman climb it.

  • mentoring epic routes! also great to watch a generational gap climb together, especially women. endurance climbs always impress me.

lynn hill = wise mother nurturer

katie brown = young huffy grasshopper

owen hill (surfing baby) = next gen climber!

    : )

  • wow, very amazing!

  • Katie's ear-rings looked lovely, but she didn't need the extra weight. She's good with her knees, though

  • That's funny

  • australia loves u girls keep up the good work

  • hahaha yo ive got a sport climbing lesson tomorrow with that girl katie brown...i didnt know she was that good!

  • lynn is soo bad ass

  • @ 7:55 = holysht

  • Ohmygod! I love Lynn Hill. She is an AMAZING climber! She's one of my rolemodels!

    :D

  • Una lección de vida

  • Really enjoyed watching it, please come over to climb in our Turkish mountains in Europe, you will really enjoy the sunshine especially in Mountain range called Aladaglar, Nigde-Camardi (Demirkazik)

  • Are they near Sagmalchicar?

  • No, it is central Anatolia, Mountain Range called Aladaglar in Turkish it is called Toroslar

    Mountain Hut in Demirkazik

  • OK. Is that near Izmir?

  • Loved it. Thanks for posting! Lynn is my hero. Keep up the good work, Katie.

  • Where katie took that whip: 4-5 minutes is definite C2, 0 TCUs. I would not want to take that whip.

  • How many pitches was it?!

Man I could NOT do that.

I climbed Lambert Dome ONCE but I will never be able to do that kinda stuff!

  • A true inspiration to all the female climbers out there. Some of those crux sections are really badass. I try to imagine what it would be like to know there's only one way up at this exact point 900 feet off the ground and it's gonna take every ounce of strenth I've got to get past it. Intese. Quality filming too.

  • two of the sexiest ladies to ever hug granite.

  • i only came on here coz my names katie brown too :D i guess i am the english version :D

    lmao !!

go katie browns of the world !!!

    Xx

  • Inspiring... for guys and girls. Great vid!

  • katie is such a cutie pie!!

  • Nice Job ladies. Another beautiful day in Yosemite.

  • I can''t believe Katy wears those big dangly ear rings. Destined to get ripped out one day.

  • I gotta say Im angered by the lack of full information in climbing videos..she's obviously setting the route but why do all videos avoid showing the insetion of quick draws? Its ridiculous..setting a route is tough stuff..so Im at a loss why no video ever shows it... somehow quick draws magically appear on the walls! ..give the climbers some credit and show the real deal!

  • what are you talking about? they're working a route, there are a few pre-placed pieces, but I think it's pretty obvious that they placed the gear at one point or another.

  • In sport you have FAR less to worry about, potentially freeing your mind to climb technically hard rock. Climbing without having to consider safety will result in insanley hard routes being attempted. (sport)

Respect to trad climbers, I would sh*t myself having to place my own protection. I want to concentrate on the climbing, not get distracted by gear and ropework. I have never understood why this attitude bothers trad climbers, if you dont like the bolts, move past them.

  • I do both (trad&sport) and both are equally difficult at times, but for different reasons. Trad climbing frees you to climb anything anywhere as long as there are placements possible on that line. Sport can be equally challenging, but you can focus on more acrobatic maneuvering, and you don't have to worry on your way down that the last piece you placed is still stable and will stop you. Oh, and the bolts don't bother me.

  • @uthikoloshe2 i dont have huge problem with them but i can see people's argument that they are ugly and scar the rock.

  • @uthikoloshe2 It dont bother me i just dont consider it reall climbing. The thing that do bothers me with bolts is when they are put on places where they are not neccesary, and that happens more and more at least in sweden where im from

  • monkey

  • I have seen sport climbers that redpoint 5.12 or higher that panic on a 5.7 trad route. cliping draws to bolt hangers is easy compared to hanging one handed and picking the right size stopper or cam then then cliping the draw.

  • Very true. I nearly had a heart attack leading my first trad line. After several years of sport I rationalized that if I can redpoint 5.11 sport, then 5.8 trad should be obtainable, WRONG!!! But like anything else with instruction trad is cool man just different mindset that's all. You have to consider everything and on the fly. falling sucks on trad you always wonder"is this it"

  • trad is climbing to reach the summit.nothing more nothing less. regardless of wether you place gear or clip bolts-remember bolts can be placed on lead and some so called "trad" routes were established this way . see tuolumne for examples. P.S fred becky has hand drilled many, many bolts and this does not make him a rock jock -his term for crag only climbers

  • The moment you carry gear, i.e. cams, nuts, tri-cams, it becomes trad (real) climbing.

  • stzzo is correct. trad climbing and sport climbing are considered free climbing. Sport routes are generally no more than 120 feet in length, although there are some "multi-pitch sport routes" popping up. Sport routes are protected exclusively with bolts, which allows the leader to carry only quik draws thereby lightening the load. This, in turn, lets the leader concentrate on the moves without getting burned out having to place gear. Thats why sport routes generally have harder grades.

  • sport routes generally have harder grades? Bull. While it is true that the "hardest" routes in the world are sport routes, Trad and Sport climbing should never ever be confused. Trad climbing is the real deal - routefinding, gear placement, judgement. Sport climbing shouldn't even be rated the same way. Anybody else out there remember when sex was safe and climbing was dangerous. Great Trad climbing ladies.

  • So long as you are getting up the route under your own skill and power, who cares what kind of protection you use? I climb sport, and trad, and I like them both equally. I have fallen on bolts and i have fallen on cams on 5.12 lines. Guess what, its still a 5.12, no matter what kind of protection I am using. The only downside to sport climbing is the innability to climb wherever you want to climb. Now, lets do the intelligent thing and focus our anger instead on aid climbers. :)

  • right there with you! free climbing = free climbing! then there's aid! : )

  • duuudde

sport climbing is with quickdraws rope harness belay

trad is cams nuts tri cams ect rope harness slings quickdraws crabs ect

    two totally different things

  • Was this in reply to me? Yeah, they're different. But they're both free climbing. Free climbing is when you grab or stand on the rock itself, as opposed to aid, where you grab and stand on gear.

At least, that's how we define it in the United States.

  • Same definition in the UK. That looked like a mainly trad route with a few bolted sections. A couple of bolted pitches on a wall that size don't turn it into a sport route.

  • Yeah, point taken... I was trying to get the guy to realize that it's not a sport route (as he was arguing). I should have said it's "mixed route - trad with bolts" instead of "mixed sport and trad".

  • and how do u go back down??

  • big hike on the other side...

  • I have held me breath in the bathtub once.

    Go Lynn and Kate!!

  • that shit is scary, my hands are sweaty ahahaha

  • the roof at 7:45 is wicked

  • I've climbed this and except for 10 feet just past Awahnee Bivi, I can't remember being able to free anything. Damn! These are amazing times. What's next? Go Lynn! Go Katie!

  • Hey Lynn, you look like you are doing well. I still remember those camping trips at Joshua Tree, I haven't climbed since, never did like trying to get down.

    Lindsay T.

  • beautiful and inspiring. great climbing

  • It's Fantastic!!!

  • Pure inspiration! Well done!

  • ¡Que pasada!¿No hay por ahi mas videos de estas chicas?¡Que elegancia!¡Que poderio!¡Que clase!

  • inspiring to see an accomplished climber like Lynn encourage and assist a younger climber. Thanks to both of you for your guts, focus and PATIENCE.

  • To free climb a route like that means to climb it under your own power, on lead, with the rope for safety only. Free soloing is climbing with out means of protection. If you notice, when Katie tries that hard pitch again after taking a lead fall, she has to re-clip her high piece. This is because she had to lower off, pull the rope, and re-lead the whole pitch or it would not have counted as a free climb.

  • two petite (and cute) girls never looked so burly!! Great job, awesome low-key camera work.

  • Man, that move at 4:17 looks hard.

Until that point I was thinking "yeah, I could do this". Hahaha. No way.

  • erm hate to sh*it on the parade here but..

thats not free climbing thats sport climbing??

  • Its trad, but still free climbing. Free climbing is climbing while supporting all your own weight. The rope and gear is only there to catch you when you fall, not help you climb.

  • trad isn't free climbing

its sport climbing with bolts and crabs

  • Sigh...

    Climbing Terms 101

Free Climbing--Using your body to climb and using gear to catch you if you fall. Trad and sport are BOTH free climbing.

Aid Climbing--Using mechanical means to climb because the rock is too featureless for you to do it yourself.

Free Soloing--Free climbing without any protection (ie no rope).

  • wait sorry

    i sound like an idiot

i ment to say trad isnt free climbing and

this video is sport climing with bols n quickdraws

  • You're incorrect.

Trad and sport are both free climbing.

This video is mixed sport and trad. There's obvious use of trad gear at 3:58, 4:40, 5:27, 6:17, 7:47, 9:10, etc.

  • and i know its a mxed route becase all the routes in yosemiti are like that

  • I can't speak about the wall routes, but most non-wall routes are pure trad (no bolts). There are some pure sport routes as well.

  • You must have climbed a very small amount of routes in Yosemite to say that "all" the routes are mixed with bolts. I was only there for a month and never climbed a single route with a bolt for pro (only bolted anchors).

  • if you look at about 2:11 they are using the pre-placed bolts, making it a sport climb. However still a very good, hard technical climb.

  • Interesting discussion. Did Robbins and co put up trad or sport climbs? They placed bolts drilling by hand while leading. New routes near Snake Dyke also placed bolts by hand on the lead. In the old days 'trad' climbing was called 'clean'. Is it trad if you place a piton? (NOT 'clean!') I wouldn't call The Nose a sport route! Is it sport route if ALL pro and anchors are bolts placed on abseil? Is it a sport route if in it's 10 clean pitches there are two bolts that were placed on the lead?

  • Did anybody else wonder why Katie was wearing earrings on the climb?

  • She must just be good enough that she doesn't worry about catching big hoops like that on anything and ripping her ear -good video though, my friend was up there when they were working it and said they were very polite about passing etc.

  • beautiful, fresh, sincere,

    congratulations.

    bello, fresco, sincero,

    felicitaciones.

  • I love rock Climbing girls...so hot!!!

  • you ladies are awesome and thanks for putting on such a good free climb.

  • Great stuff, excellent production value.

  • great climb girls. so who did the filming? did ya take turns or was there someone else there?

  • Takes amazing guts to climb these faces.

  • girls can climb such an elegant way! i'm adore to watch!

  • Good job girls, sending hard route yee ha!

  • katie so beautiful

  • Yah, I got sweaty palms too! Never climbed like that.

  • Ahhh climbing girls are so hot... Except for there knarled up hands, and feet, and knees, and elbows, and legs... LOL

    Good job girls, impressive climb.

  • Great video! Inspiring climbing footage & fun to see the dynamic of the two personalities.

  • Yes, there're some people died from doing this sport, but the way I think is that there're even more people died from doing no sport. I love rock climbing!

  • Awesome video. A beautiful dialogue of Old school meets new school.

  • those clips hold you like crazy ,few people died from equipment problems ,

  • Does anyone ever fall and die doing this? How safe are those itibity clips and who saves you if you get too tired?

  • people thought dan osman would die

  • And they were right

  • But they were wrong about HOW he died. He didn't die from climbing.

  • my hands are sweating too but from excitement

  • My hands were sweating while watching this! I can't believe people actually do this for fun! Ugh! Its so freaky to me!

  • Katie and Lynn are the best clinbers, because Lynn has the experience and katie the new style, and both are stong, technic, and everybody loves this womens because when they climb we can see their spirit, good video!
