I always kept my flamer and axe in queue, but if I had to Skeet shot someone else, I'd always switch to shotgun by mouse 3 or 4. the thumb mouse key.

@xannmax press q -> axe / press 3 ->axe, what's the difference? I don't even use the scroll to change weapons, just using the num keys. Some people prefer something like: scroll up is primary, scroll down is secondary and q is for melee.

Just use those shortcuts that you find comfortable, don't ask them from others, figure them out yourself.

The only thing that sucks is when you meet a pyro with the exact same qualifications though, me and one guy kept getting into situations where one of us would come out of the fight with around 1 health, pretty tense : )

Also, what is youtube's opinion of the reserve shooter's mini-crits vs. the reg shotty's extra ammo, I wonder what the point of the reg shotty is now, because the reserve just compliments the pyro so much, feels like I got a strange shotty for nothing.

I jumped into TF2 after the they took off the +50 hp when equipping the Backburner and the Pyro has always been my favorite class. Today I love using the Degreaser with either the Shotgun/Flare gun and the Axtinguisher. I remember before I started using the Compression Blast, I used to be very good with the Backburner because I used the Pyro as if he were a Spy but Axtinguishing people is a lot more fun.

Noob pyro = Backburner and w + m1 all the time.

Good pyro = Uses the regular flametrhower, uses airblasts for saving team mates and reflecting people or rockets/pipes/etc and fnish off the enemy with the axtinguisher or shotgun/flaregun.

Typically I'll stick to flamethrower for the versatility of the airblast, but if I need a lot of damage done in a very short period of time (Heavy spam from the other team, etc. etc. etc.), or I know I won't be able to utilize the compression blast effectively and it would waste my ammo too quickly, I find the Backburner to be a perfectly acceptable weapon. Mmm, 100% Crits from behind (Pyro IS an ambush class, after all) It's not a bad weapon at all, just too many people using it for W+M1. :C

I used to do the airblast=axtinguisher combo as well, but I've recently discoverd that the fireaxe is actually much more reliable.

First of all when dealing with groups of enemies, you'd have to light them all up before you can hit them, which gets everyone's attention and basically means you're dead. Second, when dealing with lag it's quite common that the enemy either doesn't catch fire right away, or that the axe hit doesn't actually crit despite the enemy being on fire(more in next comment)

So ... due to these factors, coupled with the high random crit rate of the fireaxe, I actually find the most preferable loadout to be regular flamethrower (duh), flaregun (sometimes tough call over shotty, but harassing Snipers + mini crits on burning targets = nice) and then the fireaxe. Most kills I make as pyro are actually done using the fireaxe, in much the same playstyle as you would with the backburner or as a Spy. Just sneak up on them and hack away :D They drop like flies ^^

It's possible. I've had teammates lay down consistant flames on a pyro while whacking them with the axe.

pyroes are able to catch fire, but just think of the period a fraction of a second, other than the normal burnoff. But if there's a consistant flame, you'll be under "burning status" no matter what.
