i got a 05 GP GT im planning on doing a top swap, nice vid but why POS linkin suck?! there such a shitty band and had thier 15 seconds of fame and need to go away.

I agree the 4t65e tranny isn't that great on these vehicles, started having problems @ 150,000 miles on my 97" GTP. Changed the fliud and filter 4 times since then and it now has 210,000 miles. Pretty much can say my tranny is done, now I'm currently working to get a HD version strait from ZZ Performance that can handle tremendous amounts of hp for future motor upgrade. Gotta love the GM 3.8L, they are bulletproof. Bet I can get another 100k miles off my current motor easily!
I have a 1999 GP GT,,Daily Driver,,,,,and a 1998 GP GTP Coupe body that I,m going to drop a 1975 GP 400 Cube into,,I love that 400 sound ,,have had a 1969 GP SJ with the Poncho 400 and a 1974 Formula with a Poncho 400,,So I think it would be proper to Rat Rod the 98 coupe with a rear drive ,BB 400 4speed with PMD rims,,,,I will be recording the results for Non Believers,,Will keep you all posted,,I lack very little for tools,,,,Mechanic since 1973
@rebelracer77 You have pointed out all of the reasons to stay away from this car! Front-wheel drive; sedan; lack of a manual trans. I gotta have rear-wheel drive, locker-diff, manual trans, dual exhaust! GTO!!
@exp069 Bonnevilles aren't W-bodies. Here's what IS a W-body: 1988-1997 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme 1998-2002 Oldsmobile Intrigue 1988-2004 Buick Regal 1997-2005 Buick Century 2005-2009 Buick LaCrosse 1990-2001 Chevrolet Lumina 1995-2007 Chevrolet Monte Carlo 2000-present Chevrolet Impala 1988-2008 Pontiac Grand Prix
@PlayDohz06 Leave that to the dodge Neon LoL. All GM Vehicles my Family had all hit well over 200,000 Km, Just have to learn how to take care of them and they last a life time. Simple as that, just like any other vehicle. is capable of.
I would say so, only major problem to complain about is the transmission. A modded 3800 can eat a stock 4T65, just rebuild it with a few mods and you're good to go.
@454sskilla the engines in these cars are bulletproof. The transmissions are another story. But there's plenty of aftermarket for both the engines (unless you have the LQ1 3.4L DOHC V6, or the LX5 3.5L DOHC V6) and the transmissions.
i have a w body 3800 l36 and its a peice of shit wouldn't own another one famous leaking object the damn intake plenum if they were so great they wouldn't all have this problem mine has msd ign coils wires a cartuning profromance turbo with intercooler lowered it american racing 18's but the funny thing is its a intrigue gl ha granny car my 92 eg3 siir b16a pushing 534 whp smokes this peice of shit
@ZackValek89 yeah especially when they the Si or Prelude SH get the same hp out of a 2 liter I4 that is takes 3.8 liters for pontiac to achieve. i love my gtp but it should be pulling will over 300 hp supercharged
@crzystve42 i believe you are misinformed. The newest and most powerful Si pulls only 201 horses, while the 3800 tops that naturally aspirated. The last and most powerful Prelude made a stately 217, right around where it should be for an intercooled 2.0 turbocharged engine as opposed to a supercharged, non-intercooled 3800.
I do agree though...Had GM simply itercooled it, it would have made the promised 300+hp, and had they offered a manual, it would have pulled 5 seconds and even better sales.
@AmbassadorOfGlory wait isnt that what i said? an I4 honda can make the same hp as a v6 pontiac. and im really thinking of intercooling my gtp it would be so fast
@crzystve42 sure a turbocharged i4 can make the same horses as a Pontiac v6, just not the supercharged one. And yes, intercooling is about the best thing you can do to it. Not only can you push 300 horse with that update alone, it opens the door to so much more... A ZZP intercooler and a 6-speed manual I found are the next courses of action for my GTP, I'll be pulling 11s easy.
@crzystve42 Its a 2002. And before you ask... yes i have found at least two manual transmissions thatll bolt right on to the 3800. :) obviously theres much more work involved, but ive seen it done, cant wait to do it myself...
@crzystve42 They are. Yours has got the same tranny as mine if i remember right, same hookups at least... i bet you could drop a manual in with the same amount of work if you really wanted. Its just a question of if you want to spend the time and money on that, or a new car you know. Unless if i find a steal on a Trans Am Im dropping in the manual cuz i love this car. :)
@JustShutUpNWatch Its no easy task but I have actually seen it done! Apparently, alot of GMs transmissions bolt onto the engine and drivetrain so similarly that they can be interchangeable. The 5 speed Getrag 284 from the 1988 Lumina Z34/Grand Prix GTP fits the engine, as well as, apparently, the six speed from the newer G6. I would very much like to, but it wont be cheap... itll bolt onto the engine but the mountings and some transmission lines will have to be custom or changed
Got a question for those of you that knows about GTPs... Im looking to get a 98-02 GTP, I wanna have a whipple supercharger/twin charger installed, but I know they made conversion kits to use just turbochargers. Which would you recommend? I know Superchargers produces heat, and uses some of the motor's torque to rotate the assembly, and Turbos are good for better top end. Im looking to get at least 500 whp.
Don't build up a GTP unless you got a ton of money...tranny's aren't the best...they are good don't get me wrong...but 500 horses you'll wreck your tranny...with that being said...I love my grand prix :)
i have to say im pretty impressed with these cars, i never expected this much pace outta these cars, but you guys have built some impressive cars. i give credit where its due, well done.
LOL, why do you have such a hard on for trying to say that car isn't fast? That car was equipped with a M112 Supercharger, race cam, heads, etc. I have the original video and you can see the HUD read over 120 mph. And at 120mph the trees are not going to flyby as fast as you think... I know you haven't done it in your stock Bonneville SSEI, but I'm just letting you know.
jajaja yeah ok!!!!!!! well i dont know if you are just dong a video about just that one car or the whole body w, but i do know how to go very fast.....and that car in 1:10, is not doing over 120 MILES PER HOUR, jajaja nice try!!!!! just look at the trees in the background, and dont try to say that the clip was in slow motion!!!! but sorry tu burst your bubble bro!
hey the pontiac on 1:10 is not going over 120MPH, if you know the person that made that clip of the car doing that, tell em to stop pretending to have a badass car. I own a bonneville ssei and i know that if you convert the metrics by PUSHING a button to make it KPH, it will show the same way that it did on 1:10.... but nice try, trying to impress people. but not real pontiac owners... i hope this is not your video though!
Sorry to burst your bubble but on the 97-2003 grand prix (which is what is you're referring to in the video) there was no metric to imperial conversion button... if you look at the gauge you can see both kph and mph is listed. That car is heavily modified.
yeah kind of... cuz i saw somewhere a vid and tons of pic of a gtp with turbo and supercharger but i was like : wtf?? is that possible so thats why i asked... but aights thanx
that guy has a lot of money and very little sense. look at it this way, if twincharged was that good dont you think at least one manufacturer would run a twincharged car thats decimating all competition? nope none around at all. and they definitely do their homework.
i know from what i looked at for silvias. bee r s15 twincharged silvia, out of all 12 events that thing ran it finished two. and broke down at other times. its like rotaries. great concept, doesnt work so well in reality.
The twincharged car was made by a company who specializes in W-body parts (ZZPerformance). I believe they made it as a competition car and just to show people it could be done. I believe it broke into the 9's also. However, you are correct in stating that it isn't the most efficient way to make power because their current car is twin turbo and WAY after. Not to mention there are SINGLE turbo cars after than the twincharged Grand Prix.
I was wondering the same thing. But I guess that they are using it to try and keep the weight on the front end? I would think that stiffer springs in the back would do but who knows. I definately do agree though that it is confusing as to why they would have that. I have never seen it before and I co-own a race track lol.
It keeps the front down so the weight doesn't shift to the back and the front stays down... that way you get better traction.. Even though we have fwd cars, the front still lifts and traction goes out the window.
They sell a Turbo Kit for the GTP, it actually takes the supercharger out of the equation by removeing the nose drive and blocking it off... so what your actually looking at is a turbo GTP..
i just bought a 2001 boneville for every single part for 500 bucks does anyone have any suggestions? Its a SSEi so money not a problem the motor has about 50,000miles on it
I have the normal 2001 GT 3.8 special ed...and I love it...the passing power is very nice, has enough power to play around a bit and with schedule mantanance is super reliable...I just added stiffer suspention and 18X7.5 rims...good handler at this point as well!
That's cool. We W-body owners have more options than I thought. When I bought my "conservative grocery getter, it didn't even occur to me that I could do anything with it's performance. AWESOME!!
Hell yea. That Grand prix that did the 9.7 might be the INTENSE RACING sponsored Grand Prix. It gives W Body owners hope to see ownage like this . HELL YEA!!!!!

yeah kind of... cuz i saw somewhere a vid and tons of pic of a gtp with turbo and supercharger but i was like : wtf?? is that possible so thats why i asked... but aights thanx

that guy has a lot of money and very little sense. look at it this way, if twincharged was that good dont you think at least one manufacturer would run a twincharged car thats decimating all competition? nope none around at all. and they definitely do their homework.
i know from what i looked at for silvias. bee r s15 twincharged silvia, out of all 12 events that thing ran it finished two. and broke down at other times. its like rotaries. great concept, doesnt work so well in reality.
ztunelover 2 years ago
The twincharged car was made by a company who specializes in W-body parts (ZZPerformance). I believe they made it as a competition car and just to show people it could be done. I believe it broke into the 9's also. However, you are correct in stating that it isn't the most efficient way to make power because their current car is twin turbo and WAY after. Not to mention there are SINGLE turbo cars after than the twincharged Grand Prix.
Thanks for watching :)

GM made a hell of an engine with these cars.
Just need to get rid of those tinker toy superchargers to open them up.

idk much bout drag racing sept my ar is fast but why would u need a wheelie bar for a front wheel drive car?
dontfuckwitme69 3 years ago
I was wondering the same thing. But I guess that they are using it to try and keep the weight on the front end? I would think that stiffer springs in the back would do but who knows. I definately do agree though that it is confusing as to why they would have that. I have never seen it before and I co-own a race track lol.
getalife04 3 years ago
It keeps the front down so the weight doesn't shift to the back and the front stays down... that way you get better traction.. Even though we have fwd cars, the front still lifts and traction goes out the window.
Interloper187 3 years ago
Bow to the GM w-body. hopefully Gm doesn't cut the line. Bastards.....

If you can twin charge a GTP,can you do it to a 3800 lumina?Cause I want a lumina that can run 11's easily.
rockerdude29 3 years ago
you can do it, it takes alot of work, and most of all money

supercharged and turbochaerged!!! I know they do that to drag diesel trucks
danielkabuto 3 years ago
They sell a Turbo Kit for the GTP, it actually takes the supercharger out of the equation by removeing the nose drive and blocking it off... so what your actually looking at is a turbo GTP..
lordoflivernois 3 years ago
2:20-2:27 Twin charged?!!!?!? Wow!!! You know I finally feel at home on this upload & the songs says it all as well!thanks for the awesome vid...

RWD seems to be more fun in my opinion but
If they can stick 8 second 1/4 miles in a fwd w body, then whatever your targeting shouldnt be an issue lol.
DarkLinkAD 3 years ago
Not to put any of you guys down but the only w bodies worth anything are the supercharged ones.... just the truth.
mousehunter311 3 years ago
right on bro! non super charged only have 180 bhp
when the gtp's have 250-280!!!!!1!thats almost more than the v8 oldsmobile aurora FAST!
AND WAY MORE THAN THE 92 IROC-Z
wilsob26 3 years ago
Exactly! I have a 2002 GTP.... I Love it.
mousehunter311 3 years ago
the non supercharged one's have 200 or 205 depends on what car, but the gtp's have 240 the NEW gtp's have 260.
stickdriver55 3 years ago
well the gt has 200 but im talking about the SE as a example, i wanted to make a big statement
wilsob26 3 years ago
Dont forget drivetrain loss. Makes it about 160-170 to the wheels on a GT or SS Monte.

i just bought a 2001 boneville for every single part for 500 bucks does anyone have any suggestions? Its a SSEi so money not a problem the motor has about 50,000miles on it

I have the normal 2001 GT 3.8 special ed...and I love it...the passing power is very nice, has enough power to play around a bit and with schedule mantanance is super reliable...I just added stiffer suspention and 18X7.5 rims...good handler at this point as well!
insonita55 3 years ago
That's cool. We W-body owners have more options than I thought. When I bought my "conservative grocery getter, it didn't even occur to me that I could do anything with it's performance. AWESOME!!
Ninjaro 3 years ago
Hell yea. That Grand prix that did the 9.7 might be the INTENSE RACING sponsored Grand Prix. It gives W Body owners hope to see ownage like this . HELL YEA!!!!!
Ninjaro 3 years ago
It was actually the ZZP/Stattama Grand Prix.
