@leklek69 ...He actually died, the paraglider pilot (one of the two american twins, can't remember their name) landed ok thanks to his rescue if I remember.... St Hilaire is so freakin' packed every year without barely any restriction that it was an accident waiting to happen.
I don't see what use a helmet would have been in this accident. IMO they are only really of use for bad or windy landings that go wrong. The hangie should have cleared his display area visually prior to his approach because PGs don't move that fast. At time of pullup the pilots would not be able to see each other and it was too late. A pilot should always make a visual check before any aerobatics.
Condolences to the family. In my country(Canada) HG and PG are basically unregulated, no registration, just adherence to VFR flightrules. Remaining so depends on pilots making good decisions. Without knowing exact circumstances, whose airspace was encroached on, any pilots performing ANY aerobatics, even moderate wingovers, even within a designated zone, had better make damn sure their airspace is clear.
someone once saw a glider sticker on my car and said "so your a hang glider" i replied "i've put on a bit of weight but i think that comment is unfair" he just looked puzzled
I have to join the pro-post crowd. In dangerous sports it is most important to learn from the mistakes of others. Even and espacially if they are fatal!
Not to talk about beginners in these sports, that think more about the coolness than about the dangers.
There are still too many people dying of avoidable mistakes.
yes he risked not only himself but everyone around him. That HG pilot died in that i have seen the rest of the video. Not good. To bad this is supposed to be fun
The HG pilot was clearly showing off above launch. It might help someone else survive... I'm just glad the real victim wasn't hurt. Yes, I fly a hang glider.
why in gods name would you put this on youtube for other people to see i dont know if youve even damn considered how many times someones died in an accident like that some one could stumble across that and remind them of a fatal accident which caused death shame on you and anyone else who has any negative comments
Indeed, did all the rules and precautions flew out the window once a skill level rose past novice? where is the common sense??? no wonder, mostly masters die in this extreme sport.. they get too cocky, blind confidence invites unexpected and disastrous endings.
Pourquoi tu post cette video ? débile !!! Moi je l'ai filmé et j'ai supprimé cette séquence de ma caméra ! c'est vraiment du n'importe quoi ! un peu de respect pour la famille...
@BattleZealot There was a WWI pilot that once said, "There are old pilots and there are bold pilots. But rarely are there old and bold pilots." Unfortunately, there are always incidents such as this tragic accident that remind us of this axiom.
Oh, a landing like a helicopter...

i agree with you on that all para- and hanggliders should wear helments at all times. but in this case it wouldnt matter anyway.

It is a good thing to show this video, YES !!
See on the very first second how many people were flying that day!!!
Pilots, BE AWARE that maybe you are not alone in the skyes before doing your stunts.
Sorry to say that, but better him then the paraglider pilot...

LimpJimmy 2 years ago
You are right Jim - he was flying in an area designated for the synchro display so his mates could film the loop - they filmed his death instead.
armandin2048 2 years ago
@KobusCilliers think about it for a second........ this video will make people think twice before showing off over launch
HOPPERFZR 1 year ago
@HOPPERFZR he wasnt showing off over launch, in this case it was a planned display and the paraglider pilot drifted too close.
