  • Right on Daniel

  • Daniel, every Kansas Congressman and Senator are opposed to these bills. These remind me of the infamous Communications Decency Act (mostly overturned by the US Supreme Court).

  • great man you have the idea that I've been trying to put into words for so long

we the people need freedom and no single government can tell people how to live their lives

  • @stateofdaniel you were right it didn't pass.

  • The idea that they are losing money on their content is all theory. Most people that pirate wouldn't spend the money anyway and is a small % of the population. Napster lost the music companies money because of its popularity and their were no pay sites to download MP3's. Once sites like Itunes came about this changed. In this case piracy made the free market better. Finally if I buy a used CD it doesn't make the music industry money and that is legal. How is that and giving away a file different

  • Thanks for covering this

  • First class.

  • OMG he's a brony! Also, sopapipas are only good with honey.

  • @fizzingwhizbeee I hope that's a good thing!!!!

  • @stateofdaniel Hah, a Brony is a male teen/adult that's obsessed with My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Brony is a portmanteau of Bro and Pony - Brony.

  • @Elvishairdude89 Whoops!

  • Right on as usual Daniel.

  • @curlybobz Thanks!

  • Or at least something similar. People will read this and either think I'm a conspiracy theorist or just a nut altogether but truth be told these two bills would give the government more power and very well could lead to a 1984 situation of sorts. With the government monitoring what people say and do over the internet, who's to say what comes next.

  • I read a book one time it had a date for a title can't remember the name right off hand........................oh wait now I remember 1984. HAHA Anyway, while the premise behind both bills is actually sound, the authority that would come with it is NOT. It's not a bad thing to let companies get all the money they have rightfully earned, but it is a bad thing to let the government censor what can and can't be on the internet. When this happens they can limit freedom of speech thus leading to 1984

  • Thanks for posting those links, I already did both.

  • Wow, China,Iran do the same thing. Hmm Wonder why we would do it?

  • I don't get it, if I break the law, shouldn't I get punished for it? I think these are actually good laws. I really believe the law is the law and if it is affecting an entire industry shouldn't we do something to stop it? As a music artist, I like the idea of stopping the unauthorized use of music. I can see how prince took it way too far, but that's his time effort and soul that he embedded in the music he made, I think he has a right to do that... Just my opinion, I know most will disagree.

  • @atlanteavila do you really think it is about downloading !? it is about government control of information . it (once again ) give the government too much control of your life . the u.s. mafia (governnment ) wants to control ALL intellectual property of the u.s citizens and would like to dumb us down even more the internet is the governments #1 enemy to expose it for the mafia it is

  • @atlanteavila I do understand your first sentence! I agree that there are consequences for breaking the law. However, my point is that there are *already* laws against copyright infringement. So instead of creating a new law that can censor the net, why not target the violators of the laws already in place? I'm aspiring to work in the music industry, so I can understand how content creators are frustrated, but I just think there are better ways to go about it... Just my thought

  • obama will block just for brownie points in up coming election, more people effected by sopa than NDAA

  • @th86stone Exactly what I thought. He knows people are against this and I'm assuming he's hoping people will focus on him blocking SOPA instead of him signing ObamaCare.

  • So if ANYTHING political were to be copyrighted no one would be able to use it on line in rebuttal or ad campaigns or even comment on it? AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

  • @ilovenh1 That'd be awful!

  • Tyranny has had many names over the years, and these are just two more to take away the privacy of individuals.

  • SOPA and PIPA is another name for NET Neutrality. If the government gets this passed and you have some bureaucratic agency determining what is or is not copyright then they can shut any site down. These bills let the Fed.'s with hold information from the people if they feel is of a sensitive nature. I/O/W's if you have a viewpoint that they do not like the video or article will not be allowed on any web site, depending who is in office will determine what is allowed. China does this!

  • Ditto...Right on Daniel!

  • If anything I have seen the content creators abuse the current system time and time again.

Why do they need more law?

Not my fail their business model sucks.

  • @icegryphon Agreed. And part of what's so frustrating to me is that I'm trying to work in the entertainment industry (music and acting), so it's awful to see how the "guys in suits" just DON'T GET IT and don't realize that the world is developing and moving forward at a fast pace. The industry has got to change its model or else it will keep losing money!

  • Kick but!

Do one on the NDAA with perhaps a Care Bear hog tied and extradited to gitmo.

  • Just when you think they can't remove more of our Freedoms, they try and do just that. It's like when they tried and are still trying to take away hand guns. Hello! If you take away hand guns you only "disarm those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes" ---Thomas Jefferson--- Piracy is illegal, but their going about finding a solution in the wrong way.

  • "You wouldn't ban food to stop obesiety" Ahem... Michelle Obama...

  • @hooplablahblahblah Oops ;) Glad you pointed it out!!!

  • SOPA: The belief that making something more illegal, along with other things, will reduce crime. GOOD LUCK WITH THAT!

  • I am a Computer Engineer and I will do everything in my power to circumvent SOPA and PIPA if they pass.

  • @karozans good job bro . i hope all comp. professionals in the future feel the same way you do

    peace

  • @wrongturn320

Thanks man. Keep up the support. We can't do this alone.

  • @karozans You are a true patriot!

  • @cmobley69 oh yeah i'm sure pipa and sopa are not going to make what we have allready a hundred times worse. (this comment was brought to you by sarcasm). Ps. You are being fairly rude, and I feel like you are talking down to the commentors on this video.

  • Good vid.. Um the Justin Beiber thing might have been worth it. hahaha. just kidding.. Funny how Google and Wiki are pulling this HUGE protest stunt(good on them), but, where were they when the NDAA was being passed... hmmm... crickets

  • Right on, man.

  • @RooftopNewsDotCom Thanks! I realized that I hadn't subscribed to you, btw, and I just did, so thanks for commenting so I remembered to do so!!!

  • "FCK SOPA" !

  • I hope the other 2 comments below mine are wrong. I have already contacted my Reps. about this.

  • @babyblue125 Idk if you've been keeping up with it, but the Obama administration came out against it! That's at least one brownie point since he's burnt the rest of the batch haha!

  • I shared it and have it on my Blogsite too!

  • @IDiggSocialMedia Yay!!! Thanks for sharing! :)

  • 0:44 This just got at 'bout 20% cooler.

But if you want a good example of how far-reaching this goes, just look at the bill's original sponsor, Lamar Smith, and his campaign website would be removed in its entirety for using a creative commons photograph without a proper citation, and the creator would be able to file a lawsuit.

  • @AreThereNoMoreNames Glad you liked the clip! :) Are you a "brony?"

  • @stateofdaniel I wouldn't say so, but I guess that depends on your definition of what a brony is. Someone got me watching the show, and I came across some of the remixes and enjoyed them, but I tend to enjoy remixes and I don't really do much beyond watching the show.

  • It will pass too many people don't understand the power they have. They alsoprobably don't know. Sigh the internet will be sencored and soon enough we will become a big brother nation... at this point I am afraid.

  • @vixenchild333 too late we already are.. Look up, and say cheese next time you go through an intersection. Remember this is the 2nd time they Gov has tried this. Remember Net Neutrality. Also, think about this. What do you think the fairness doctrine is about?

  • @vixenchild333 I saw a chart comparing the representatives for and against SOPA/PIPA. The chart compared where the representatives stood on 1/18 vs where they stood on 1/19 after the online protest and a TON are now against it... I don't see it passing at this point...

  • PS - its sad people would have to be on guard with every single word they say on YouTube or write on their Blogs. It will come as no shock to me if SOPA and PIPA passes. Obama got his ILLEGAL "Unconstitutional" Health Care Law passed, all of too easy. SOPA & PIPA work in favor of Obama's ideology to overthrow our constitution and could potentially find a way to remain in power even without votes. Scary thought eh?

  • @ImTheDaveman and the NDAA... The NDAA is the worst legislation but, isn't talked about like these bills or the health care bills.. why is that?

  • @ImTheDaveman don't forget the NDAA bill he passed.

  • @ImTheDaveman Exactly what you said. People shouldn't have to be on guard with their words! FREEDOM OF SPEECH! Sure, that comes with responsibility, but no censorship!

  • Yes mlp!

  • So now if the SOPA and PIPA really passed in Congress, i won;t have youtube and wikipedia then? Man, our government is retarded. It's going to affect the world and no wonder why everyone is pissed at us.

  • @Hperman09 The good news is at this point I don't think it's going to pass!

  • @stateofdaniel Well The FBI recently charged 7 people from different countries for the MEGAVIDEO site and it shut down.

  • I do believe in protecting intellectual property but I cannot support SOPA at its current form due to the risk of too much collateral damage. I like one alternative suggestion I heard online which was to target the funding of piracy sites.

By the way, I wouldn't have mentioned Justin Bieber since that might convince people to support SOPA.

  • @Infantry9 Thanks for your comment and I agree with you. As someone who hopes to make a living in the entertainment industry (music and acting), content creators need the right to protect their work. But their should do so at the expense of the people perpetrating the crimes instead of censoring the net.

Haha...I thought about that, but I thought the Justin Bieber thing might help reach out to a younger demographic....

  • Hands off my internet Honey Bo bo! ..One thing though you left the part out when we all lose our YouTube channels..

  • @RougeSamurai77 I almost cut the "honey boo-boo" part out! Glad you liked it enough to use it in a comment haha. And thanks for pointing out what I left out, so now at least it's out there!

  • It's incredible how our Government is turning into its arch nemisis, China. Dominating the people with an iron fist. We aren't fully there yet but headed that direction. We can only hope if Obama is dethroned that his successor do not carry forward with his nefarious plans or make worse plans.

SOPA Must be stopped! I have not heard about PIPA at all. Seems like FOX and CNN is letting the American people down on this stuff. Their Pro SOPA advertisers carry clout I guess.

  • Silly government. I think it is time for us all to just vote out whoever our senators and congressmen are. Vote out the president too. It doesnt matter who they are. Kick em out.

  • @gat0rbball Have you read that new book called Kick Them All Out?

  • That obesity/piracy analogy is really weird and doesn't work at all, what were you thinking with that?

Beyond that; I absolutely agree with your opinions on SOPA and PIPA. Censoring the internet just shouldn't happen. Net neutrality also needs to be protected. The root of the problem is really the corrupt system of government though, money really needs to get out of politics or we will keep getting things like SOPA.

I'm curious about your stance on NDAA and/or the Patriot Act.

  • @GigaBoost Meh...I was trying to be funny but it doesn't always work haha. Hmmm. I'm conflicted on the Patriot Act. What are your thoughts on it?

  • @stateofdaniel I think that the rule of law with fair and unbiased trials, innocent until proven guilty etc are really fundamental to a working society and a government that isn't totalitarian or overly intrusive. I think that the Patriot Act strikes a hard blow against that principle, warrantless surveillance and wiretapping and similar things shouldn't be allowed. NDAA also helps demolishing the legal system with indefinite detention without trial.

  • I got an email from Popvox that said that the bill won't go to the House.

  • Thumbs Up if you signed the petition!!!

  • As much as SOPA and PIPA sound good, it reminds me of the Internet Neutrality idea. It covers its idea of communism in kind soft words. Its kinda like on StarWars Revenge of the Sith, I would try to make some example but can't access Wikipedia! Government says "I have brought debt, communism, and suffering to this country". Conservatives "Your brain must not be working". Government "If you are not with me then you are Tea-Party". Conservative"Only a Communist is that dumb, I will do what I must"

  • @thndrknight "Communism in kind soft words." You nailed it on the head there...it's taking baby steps away from liberty to a more controlling government!
