@3dartistguy It was stated in Genesis II They were built before the holocaust. This is a sequel to Genesis II and Roddenberry's 2nd attempt to sell the idea to TV
CBS got the pilot for Genesis II and didn't buy it. Planet Earth was pitched to ABC, They didn't buy it. We wouldn't see the Dylan Hunt concept revived again until Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda.
well both were god awfull concepts...and badly executed....im really sorry Roddenberrry thought so little of modern society that in every one of his science fiction proposals including Star Trek that the society of the 20th century had to be wiped out in a Noah like purge...i always believed we would get to the future with out a nuclear holocost, but apparently Roddenberry didn't believe so...his series were not very hopeful for their times.
It would have been a simple matter to do a "Planet Earth" cross-over with Battle for the Planet of the Apes. The Kreegs are obviously Morlock/human mutants. Where is General Ursus?
Lurch looks great with a headband, but could have used an accompanying harpsichord theme (Eegaaaah)...
If I remember correctly... the 'honeycomb' of tubes was to be a recurring theme. After the world finally started to heal following WWIII, a sytem of pan-global 'subway' tubes was re-discovered & used to try to reunite the planet. The gimick was that since the world had so isolated, each area developed very differently. Sort of the whole 'strange new wrolds' angle. But then that was sci-fi of the 70's, Route 66 meets the Twilight Zone!
I wonder if the design of those costumes would have been the template for Star Trek Phase 2. I remember watching this back in the mid 70's. Would have been fun if taken up for a series but they would have to have replaced the puny tranquiliser guns. Nice to see Ruk from Star Trek find a home.
I think was the the plot, the networks of the time sadly did not buy into the idea-if you search the web at one point around 20 scripts were actually written
This is classic vintage sci-fi... I wish someone would do a modern remake of this series - as well as the QUESTOR TAPES... certainly there is a built in audience for anything created by Gene Roddenberry?
@AnaiBendai Well, I don't think there is much call for ANYTHING created by Gene Roddenberry. After he died, a popular joke in hollywood was: "You know why they cremated Gene? Because they didn't want a lot of writers pissing on his grave."
Action John Saxon!!!

This city looks like the one the apes torched in "Conquest of the Planet of the Apes". (Century City)
