  • John was made of music, he couldn't have done anything other than make this stuff. that's my definition of genius...

Some memories are special and make you smile, the memories of seeing him live do that to me...the best times

  • And then there was an angel, who spoke of many things. Dreams and stories that would be true, and were real, his name was unknown to many, but known to the devoted few. And when he was gone, they carried on, listening to his words of wisdom, hoping one day, he would appear. If there is a god, and he is yours. Ask him or her, to grant us one wish. Bring John back, for one more gig.

Love Light and Peace, tot all those that believe.

  • never met john but knew hammish and he loved him good enough for me

  • Arra John, Miss you Bro.

  • Tis sexual

  • I'm in bits watching this sublime, exquisite performance, just over 3 years since your passing John. Couldn't love (& miss) you more. xx

  • Beautiful.

  • Like.

  • John Martyn - one of the top five voices in the "industry" accompanied by Roger Chapman, Jack Bruce, others of your choosing.

  • Amazing

  • Could there be a trippier combination of musical magic, i havnt touched drugs in years and im out of me head listening to this.

  • Legends, best book our tickets for the great gig in the sky kids

  • There's Gilmour, clean-shaven, posh-public-school-boy-not-quite-grown-up hair, million dollar suit freshly laundered... Then there's Our John, as wonderful and musical as ever but god you can see almost visible stink lines.

Btw - 30,000 view and ZERO dislikes. YouTube viewers are learning to spot quality when they see it.

  • I first heard this song from the album of the same name 30 plus years ago and it stuck in me and still is there today. Seeing this version for the first time....an absolute masterpiece and testimony to John's incredible talents. He left the world so much beautiful music.

  • Ci manchi................

  • So beautiful! Searched for Pink Floyd One World and came here, wonderful surprise! ♥

  • actually no it isn't....same intro though

  • This song is called small hours

  • I discovered Martyn some 25+ years ago. He was a superb musician/songwriter.

Of, course, he's no John Mayer. (Sarcasm well-intended)

  • the lace censors sound great in this, makes me think that is a strat plus like

  • I thought John Martyn was immobile. Didn't he have to have his feet removed or something?

  • @Django5198 In 2003 I believe it was removed due to a cyst or something - actually there is a documentary which follows John in the period where he is about to his leg amputated.

  • * * * * *

  • Why is it we only recognise genius when it is no longer with us?ps:The bass player on this is really superb

  • thankyou so much for he upload..my two favourite musicians of all time together....

  • great version of a beautiful tune by a beautiful musician, miss you John

  • i watched john open for eric clapton in 78, far as i'm concerned he blew clapton away, i am ashamed of my town because they tried to boo him offstage. he was really good and clapton was really plain.

  • Fantastic!!

  • Loving this sound at the end of a crappy day - cheers again Buzz man x

  • big fan of floyd, but john is probably my all time fave, excellent stuff, thanks for putting it up mr buzz. sound like the riffs from small hours?

  • big fan of floyd, but john is probably my all time fave, excellent stuff, thanks for putting it up mr buzz.

  • The keyboads are little more than irrelevant, yes we need a bass guitar and drums.

    Gilmour (why)

  • Sometimes somethings so good you cant believe it's that good, and you throw it away.

  • Go and getsome son, you will be a better person for it!

  • blues/jazz/psychodelic/trance dream ---- just discovered John Martyn today--thank you Youtube-what a privilege to have this tool available to musiclovers--I am grateful to be living in the present age.

  • @CattailsandRoses if you need the internet to be a musiclover you've just missed the point of being a musiclover.

  • @LDP060681 I don't need the internet to be a musiclover-I just said it is a tool, just as the friggin radio, record player,CD player,MP3 player, TV etc. are tools with which to become aware of music that I haven't just stumbled upon wandering about the globe in order to hear all these wonderful musicians with my own two ears in person. What is the point of being a music lover ?? Please enlighten me !

  • i call this best of both eh worlds.

  • Fucking awesome!

  • Someone should tell Gilmour that you can't busk rhythm to a John Martyn song...especially one as epic as this. Too late now but hey ho

  • wow; sooo good sooo nice ---..thank`s (`v`)

  • Hey guys. There is a legacy that John left. He inspired a guy called Dan Arborise. Check him out. "Cries" and "Days even years from now" from the album "Of Tide and Trail" are worth a listen. All was not in vain.

  • Lovely, thanks! Had the cd for years & had no idea it was filmed. What a treat!

  • @iamaweasel Lighten up, it was a joke......

  • @logar1313 Yeah, but a joke is something that a third party finds funny - it wasn't.......

  • @iamaweasel I knew you'd say that. I thought it was pretty funny, you just have no sense of humor. Sorry.

  • J'adore ce mec...Rip dear John,

  • And they don't know

  • He's a fortunate man. He left a Musical Legacy that is second to none.

  • Awesome Vid .Good Man .Respect

  • I remember John handing out his spliff to the audience in the Victoria Halls in Hanley Stoke on Trent for a quick couple of puffs and then he took it back. Early '80's, wonderful memories.

  • Fantastic Thank you , never ceases to amaze me

  • Dream Show

  • I never get fed up of hearing or watching this track, I've got it on cd, cassette tape, video and now dvd. Simply genius.

  • I remember watching this on 'The Apprentice' VHS video. I had the pleasure of seeing John Martyn at Ritzy's nightclub in Aberdeen with keyboard player + drum machine in 1989. It was a tiny place. I also saw JM in Cambridge at The Junction when it was a beer stained gig venue. He had the full band, including saprano sax player and real drummer! That was a terrific gig. He was so into it playing Angeline that he could hardly speak. Such an emotional performer! I remember the 'Poland' keyboard!

  • I've been very lucky and see john @ a small gig in Greenwich south London...was at the front with friends getting stoned on very good green...john said am liking the smell guys...he then went on to do a great performance with Danny thompson...A TRUE GENT AND PERFORMER...truly missed.....his up doing the big gig in the sky Now.

  • This is just truly awesome.

  • Is he playing Davids Red strat?

  • @ckolonko No, he has his own red Strat.

Just watch the video 'David Gilmour and John Martyn on Rock steady 1990' where you can see both men with their red Strats. :)

  • Had the priviledge to be at these Shaw Theatre gigs and was worried that Mr Gilmore would fill in all the space. It was an excellent collaboration and could not have been easy finding notes to play on standard tuned guitar when John was in CFCCGD and still keep the vibe.

    Many thanks for posting.

  • To think I sneeked in the back and watched this from behind the monitor desk!

Could never do that these days, great memories.

  • This is a gem.

  • Briliant piece of art.

  • I was Fortunate to see him in the 70s & the 80s Wow thank you John Martyn you puzzled me as a guitarist in waiting .I just learned spencer the rover 25 yrs on. someone said you are the worlds best kept secret.yeah thanks.Genius

  • 285 views?? he MUST be the worlds best kept secret

  • @mertz123

Ush...we are the happy few !!!!!

  • one of my favorite artists ever ! john martyn is truly a genius! and will be missed...

  • Staggeringly beautiful rendition of a classic song. Many thanks to Bernard for posting (and sending!).

I don't know where you get this stuff but it's sublime to be able to see the old genius at the top of his game.

  • One of my top JM favourite songs, and this may just be my favourite rendition ever; Im listening as I write. Absolutely beautiful. To me, music doesnt come any better than this-and a masterclass in guitar from two exponents who utilise the electric guitar to create atmosphere. In that respect, their approach to the guitar is similar (as Gilmour hinted in the pre TV interview). Im glad Gilmour is still around. There was only one John Martyn and he will not be replaced. This is a genuine classic.

  • Beautiful piece! top guy John Martyn perfect post my good friend!

    thumbs up !! absolutely, Bernard.

  • A truly GREAT musician. R.I.P. John.

Now I'm gonna search 4 him with Lee Scratch Perry and Eric Clapton. Fantastic post. Thnx.

  • Great upload my dear friend !

    I must confess I don´t

    know him before !

    So, thanks for introduce !

    ★★★★★

Have a nice Weekend Bernard !
