it is not the same offer! It is the equivalent of giving someone $10 cash (no strings) or a $10 discount voucher. Of course this strategy will be far more effective but it is far more costly because the business can't cover the promotional costs through it's margins. The idea is just to get people to try out their services and then hopefully they can retain their clients in the long run. There will be people who will just abuse the offer and never coming back though.
