  • I have a 92 4.0, on the air intake when it was replaced with just the filter...where did the pcv valve and other sensor go? can anyone walk me through this or tell me where to buy...CA emission laws, not easy to get certain parts. I will have to make one like this

  • @TLicensetoburn My suggestion is to keep everything from the factory, and reinstall it once a year for testing.

    10-4 on that....on the stock air box theres this F*cking small air tubes. I need an aftermarket company that makes a cold air intake for my truck, with those 2 air valves.

  • Good to see another 4.0 OHV that shifts higher than 4900 out of first. My stock 1991 4.0 shifts at about 5300. Most Exploders and rangers I see on youtube shift at 4900.

  • i got a 1992 ford ranger 4.0 reg cab short box for all the money and work u put in that truck i think id just trow in a 302 it can give u alot more options when comming to horsepower and itll only give u i belive it was (dont quote me) 100 lbs more weight all said and done or u can go the tv show trucks way and slap in a 4.6 in there and put a roush kit on it and give u 600 horse btw nice job i know how time consuming it is

  • sounds like allot of ticking from the engine to me. lifters? valve clearance?

  • How much power gain do you think you got from the cam? And does your gas mileage suffer? (obviously when you're not driving like this^)

  • @ap3x1 Don't know about power just from the camshaft. Did everything at once. MPG was actually really good! With 3.08's it got 23-26 on the highway, and with 3.73's it got 22-23. Always around 17 in town.

  • @bigdidgerido Hey, I have done the exact same thing to my 4.0 motor except for the maf and exhaust, and I was wondering how you got yours tuned. Were you able to order a chip or did you have to get a custom dyno tune?

  • The 4.0l is an AWESOME v6. TORQUE, Fuel mileage, great engine!

  • @shiznit480 Oh man... I can't help ya there. A custom grind would be my best bet. Lurk around rangerpowersports (dot) com in the 3.0 section, they may be able to help you out

  • I do not believe that every single truck needs to be jacked up, but I do think it blasphemous to slam it. Trucks are made for haulin stuff, how the hell is it gonna do that with only two inches of ground clearance?

  • @MacDaddySupreme69 You should see the inside of my bed. Dented up, and the fairly new bed liner is scratched and chipped to hell with chemical stains all over it. Trips to metal recycling and lumber yards, and hauling dirt bikes. The Ranger lost NONE of its half ton capacity when lowering it. Walk through parking lots and look in the beds of 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton trucks. Most of them have not a single scratch in the original paint

  • not bad, considering all the work it should be faster. Need some real-time diagnostics info to help determine where it is lacking.

    Motor sounds great tho, no obvious stumbling on accel or backfires when on decel. Maybe your cat-converter is becoming clogged up or maybe you took it off and it is throwing off the downstream oxygen sensor?

  • @MacDaddySupreme69 Serious tuning issues. It's running extremely lean after WOT runs, as indicated by spark plugs. Need bigger injectors, but low on priority, as I don't hot rod it all that often, just daily drive it.

  • @mecurycapri 5.0! Way more potential. I only did 4.0 because I was in a time crunch... no time for custom V8 stuff on a short leave from the military

  • have u increased injector opening time to get the right mixture now u have more air with bigger/ better flowing throttle body?

    U can get independant throttle bodies for mega power.

    I've got a '90 4.0 and it's got all the same warning lights.

  • The ABS dump valve is leaking internally. Very expensive to fix. Brakes still work just fine, just no ABS

  • with the longer duration cam u will need higher shift points also.

  • what rear end gear do u have? mines a 3.55 and it only does 35 in first gear

  • 3.08's. Now 3.73's, but speedo is way off til I change the little gear. Going to the 1/4 next weekend to see what she'll do, will post a video of times...

  • 3.55 was my last now i have 3. 14s with a air locker lol runs pretty good for a 347 not a high dollar stroker maybe 400 hp

  • Pulls like a freight train! Though that 1-2 seems to indicate your transmission isn't enjoying this punishment too much. Good excuse for an M5OD or a T5 swap.

  • Waiting for the tranny to crap itself again to do a manual swap. Got a "heavy duty" rebuild about 3 years ago and has been holding up pretty good

  • summitracing(.)com search comp cams 422-8. But thats only part of it.. need bigger/stiffer valve springs and headwork to go along w/that, longer pushrods and should get stronger valves too. rangerpowersports(.)com has all the detailed info.

  • No idea, same basic engines but don't know the interchangeablity of parts

  • just a thought, after doing some research on my own(I own a 93 ford explorer) why not try a 700r4 trans swap with a b&m rachet shifter. If your interested I can give you links for information on the swap and parts

  • heard about that.. but i'm driving this tranny into the ground, which could be awhile... gotta baby it cause I'm broke! damn living and dental expenses getting in the way, btw all dentists are crooks

  • Could just do a 5 speed swap from a mustang. Should bolt right up.

  • It doesn't quite 'bolt right up'. But for $500 you 'could' buy a james duff bellhousing that will allow you to mate them together. Then you STILL need to convert the rangers hydraulic clutch to the mustangs cable clutch, which will be another few hundred.. Only problem is james duff quit making those adapters a long time ago. They are NO LONGER AVAILABLE>

  • The older mustangs never had 4.0's...and the newer ones use the 4.0 SOHC motor with the 5r55e....it may or may not be a direct bolt on, but youd need the computer to control the 5r55e too.

  • The current stang has the 4.0 with the T5. It will bolt right upto a ranger 4.0 - hell even a 2.9 as well. Just need to work out the cross member

  • Hah yea I hear you about dentists. I wish I had taken care of my teeth like they do though... Got to deal with them and its time for new brakes and tires on the car. lol I love your truck BTW, I wish my 92 was half as nice as yours.
