We have shot a 70kg bat ray and that is close to a record. Took us 45 mins to get it in and it was dragging us out to sea.

I got money for this stingray, as well as gave it away to some asain man that wanted it. I made money off this wonderful catch and gave it away for food. Nothing went to waste at all. This was a once in a life time catch as well. for this species of ray , this ray is abnormaly big. This landed me on national geographics. Lvanov1960 , you can eat shit and bark at the fucking moon you tree huggin faggot. This stingray isn't rare at all , the only thing rare was how big the ray grew to be, 200 Lbs.

@Ivanov1690 Seriously, Ivanov1690, you need to think about what you say before you say it. This fish species is often made into sushi, which explains why the Asian man wanted it. Besides, it is perfectly possible to maintain a fishery WITHOUT over harvesting it, which is why there are size limits, closed and open fishing seasons and fishing tackle restrictions for certain species. I study marine biology and go to Cape Cod every summer, where there still plenty of fish.

lIBER8D83, Thanks , but if you read the vid discribtion you will see that I clearly state that for the species of stingray I caught , it is ABNORMALY bigger then normal. World record was only 132lb and 4 oz,. There are serveal stingrays that grow bigger than what I caught , ... what you are failing to respect a recorld that was beat by well over 130lbs for this TYPE of ray. On average this ray only grows up to 50 - 70 lbs.

Nice fish : ) Just regarding the 'description' of this video: Not trying to take anything away from your amazing catch, but I have seen sting rays (not mantas) MUCH larger than this one, while spear fishing on south-east coast of Australia (Pacific Ocean). They are a round, thick-bodied ray, I'm not sure exactly what species. About 8 ft across.

On Oct 20th 2008 National Geographic aired a premere of a show called Hooked: Gone Monster Fishing where it has my catch on it along with the former president George W Bush senior with his tarpon catch. I think it comes on again on the 26th of this month. I'm not sure the time but you can goto there website and look for Hooked: Gone monster fishing and find out the time it will air again. Yea I learned that no matter what you do in this world you can't make everyone happy. What I did was in my legal rights, and I think everyone deserves the chance to keep a once and a life time thropy fish. Hey Barrykrocker, why don't you read the description. The old wolrd record for this ray was set in 1970 at 132lbs 4oz! I beat this badly! I have the offical weigh in paper at the CBBT topping them out at over 200+ lbs! Later we found scales that surpassed 200lbs and got the over all rating of 278lbs. I have a world record pending with the IGFA and I think this is cool. I think you need to get a world record of ANY sort (other then running your mouth) then you can add lip!

I was one out of 5 people they hand picked for that show! I never even contacted Nat Geo, they found my video's online and were interested from the start. The spiny butterfly stingray isn't rare, there are lots of them! It's not like I killed a blue marlin. This ray was just massive for it's species! It would have died anyways + it did not goto waste! The ray was sold for cash money! After the catch, I received more money from Nat Geo to be on their show. I made money catching this sting ray , and someone made sea scallops out of the wings ( lol ) , so the ray didn't goto waste. This species is not on the red list so it's not illegal to keep.

ALL this time i was under the wrong impression that the animal just rotted on the car hood it was displayed on, then discarded after the photo was taken due to mis-information. at least a part of this awesome catch was put to use on some-ones table. congratz on your catch and best of LUCK on any future oceanic endeavors. thanx for sharing this video with us all out here - peace....
