You was born in '92, cause I was born in '90. Yo, da old peacock really blew my mind when i first seen it on youtube two years ago. I was fresh outta high school dat summer. dis peacock now, i've been seeing it all my life. but I remember I was looking for saturday morning cartoons, and i guess i read up sont'n you click on, and it said nbc saturday morning bumpers. So I'm thinkin', oh, well let me click on this real quick. i looked at it, i'm like dis ain't da same peacock i always see.
@godsholywoman Of course, most of that credit should go to the late, great Brandon Tartikoff who turned NBC into the dominant network it was in the 80s and early 90s. RIP Brandon Tartikoff.
@smill1985 I think i watched nbc more than anything back then good shows like alf, hogan family, different world, cosby, family ties, cheers, golden girls................ the guy was a genius shame he passed on :(
As a matter of fact, tehy had nearly all the big ones.
Diff'rent Strokes, Facts of Life, Family Ties, Golden Girls and even a few more during the 90s (Frasier, Fresh Prince, Will & Grace, Mad About You, etc.)
As much as NBC sucks right now, at least they haven't demanded that the promos from when they were good get pulled from YouTube, like those bastards at CBS did!
Probably scared of us noticing the decline in quality! There's a network in the UK called ITV that bought out all its affiliates in the 1990s and the network's a load of crap now! just search YouTube for "ITV" and you'll find loads of vids with people begging ITV to bring the local stations back!
Yes it irks me that CBS would be so uptight about having their promos up on youtube. I mean its virtually free advertising. Networks work so hard to get their brand out there so It is very strange that CBS woudl make it their duty to take all that away. Why are they so afraid????
LOL that was NBC in the 80s. I saw that special as a child. It's on 80stvthemes.com if anyone wants to take a peek at it. Fireworks filled peacocks, dancers, Nell Carter singing "NBC.. Let's all be there!" Even as a child I was like, "What the hell is all this?" LOL NBC was so concieted after they became #1 too. Well can't blame them. They did come out of the dark. ABC was concieted and cheesy in the 70s too when they're were #1 with their "Still the One" promos. Ugh! LOL
what NBC station was this on?

Flipping the peacock maybe?
And dig Danny Dark as announcer, aka Superfriends Superman!

Why a peacock?
MyVids21 2 years ago 4
I think the peacock was coined because of the color programming in 1957 where it first appeared.
SilverEspeon26 2 years ago 2
That peacock looks proud.

To defend NBC, they had some of the best sitcoms during the 80s (Amen, Growing Pains, Cosby Show, Punky Brewster, etc.)
vfreeck 3 years ago 2
Actually. Growing Pains was on ABC for all of it's run. But, you're right about all the others.
NBC used to be good. I watched it growing up in the 90s. Loved Wings and Seinfeld.
latviansexualassault 3 years ago 4
They actually begged for viewers. Well, now what? They have good shows, but their ratings (like anyone should give a damn) suck. What gives?

i really wish NBC would go back to just the "N".
sherflouski 4 years ago 3
Well, I'm guessing that they can't as there now is a channel called The N. Ironically.
If they can, though, all the power to them.

Then it's a good thing they switched to the present-day peacock in 1986, isn't it?

Good Gravy, NBC did so much self-promotion it made you sick!
They even had a musical special with many of their shows' stars, lead by Nell Carter, singing the praises of NBC, I kid you not, it was gosh-awful!!
