getting hit in the face by a scope really has nothing to do with how close your face is to the scope its just that the stock wasn't tightly on his shoulder, or on his shoulder at all really. so if your shoulder isn't in the way, the recoil of the gun will keep moving back until it hits something or has no momentum

Probably, considering exactly what happened to him in the video. The very first gun I ever fired was a .300 Win Mag and I have as much or less muscle than this guy, and I never once came close to getting scope eye. It's just a matter of holding the gun tight against your shoulder and staying braced for the recoil instead of letting it go all the way back into his face.

The #1 safety rule with firearms is,"Never point the muzzel at anything you do not wish to destroy." Bad gun handling will get someone kicked off ranges, proper gun handling comes with practice and thought untill it becomes a habit, something you don't have to think about, you just do it.

This is what happens when amateurs fire a high powered rifle, a little injury unimaginatively referred to as "Scope Eye". If you look in the video he actually has the but of the rifle positioned below his shoulder and practically in his armpit. He is also wobbling the barrel of the rifle around a lot, indicating to me at least that he is not only bracing the gun improperly but is also too tense.
