I have a Mark iii 22 45 and I have had luck with Blazer 525 bulk ammo. I have not had any FTF / FTE on 2 bricks. I get it at Dunham's or Dicks for 15 a box.
used to be able to pick up a brick of winchester wildcat like that at kmart for like 12-14 bucks, or Id buy the remington or federal 550-660 round boxes for like 6.50-8.50 I miss the days when stuff was really cheap
I use Federal 550 bulk in my Smith&Wesson 22A and I have put over 2,000 rounds through it. Out of all those rounds I've probably had around 10 to 15 bad rounds if that much.
I tried the 333 and 555 ammo in mine i have the identical gun. The ammo kept falling short of a 125m target all the time. The Federal 525 never dropped. But yeh i don`t touch the Winchester bulk anymore. Try and get come CCI Blazers.....FMJ........They are great, clean and run flawless...
I use Golden Bullets all the time when I go to the range with my 22/45. I get about 3 FTE's in a box of 525. Never had a bad round or any other kind of misfire.
i have had grea luck with remington ammo, i use it in my mkiii and my 10 22. it works almost as well as cci. remington does not work good in a browning sa22
FWIW, Ruger used Winchester to test my 22/45 from the factory - that's what's stamped on the empty shell casing that was included in the original case. Just picked my 22/45 up used today for $229 in like-new condition (made in 2000). Can't wait to shoot it. Have a crapload of Winchester plated HP's on hand (the 333 box instead of the 555, but the same stuff) - can't wait to get a chance to take it out plinkin'!
@DaveTeMan It's lethal in most cases. You're still firing a metal slug at over 1000 feet per second. Doesn't matter if you're using a .22lr or a .50BMG, you're dead if one hits you in the head.
If you think golden bullet is bad, try cyclone. That Remington ammo is about the cheapest crap I've ever seen and I'm glad I only ever had 50 rounds of it.
CCI Blazers available in big boxes also run perfectly through both my Ruger Mark III and Mark III 22 45. Its very reasonably priced! PLEASE STAY AWAY from that nasty crap in the green and yellow box !
Good review but I have to say you left out the blazer brass 22 ammo don't use it, that is very nasty I own a Ruger single six I got back in the sixties and a 10/22 and after about 100-200 rounds I spend almost 3 hours cleaning the mess that ammo made.
I have the identical gun, the Winchester 555 drops short and low for me constantly compared to the Federal 525 back i use. Also another good bullet for these is the Blazer made by CCI.....
Excellent, to the point. I have the same pistol, except in stainless. The Remington Golden Bullet is junk in the Ruger, but the Remington Viper is flawless. The Federal bulk from WalMarket works well for me. The Wildcat is really, really dirty. Love this pistol.
I actually had less than great results with the Winchester plated bullets.I am not saying it is a bad bullet, but in mt 22/45,that very flat HP tip kept jamming up on my feed ramp every 30 rounds or so,but they did punch as much paper out of my targets as my 9mm target rounds so in that respect they are very good.
This is exactly the video I was looking for. I just picked up that exact same 22/45 last week and purchased the remington golden bullet value pack. In the first 40 rounds (4 magazines) I had 2 failures to feed and one failure to fire. I was wondering what to feed my new Ruger and you answered my question in less than 5 minutes. Thank you.
I never shot a 22/45,I plan on getting one soon, but Remington .22 ammo is really bad,I would have alot of misfires in my single-six,and every so often I would get a round either way too hot or way too weak, weird since Remington centerfire ammo is some of the best.I have tried Win,CCI,Federal ammo, and I liked the Federal bulk the best, seemed cleanest and never a misfire.Win was ok,might be great in autos but in revolvers the win didn't work well, alot was corroded or leaded up in that box.
I bought two bricks of those garbage Remington Golden Bullets. I bet you that I had at least one bad round in every 20 using it in my Ruger 22 45, and several jams. It just jammed my MkIII at least one time per mag. ! Its dirty, waxy, and the bullets themselves seem poorly attached to the casing... STAY AWAY.. Its dirt cheap becuase its c**p !
Wildcats are it. That stuff would go thru the same hole out of my 10-22 target model. Your right about the Rems, I had a marlin 7000 and a few of those would rupture at the rim, spraying some brass bits on my arm & face.( i shoot lefty)
assembling this pistol requires you eyeball a dangling piece of metal on the back of the grip frame and making sure it is in the right position. All Ruger pistol owners understand this.
$15 for 555 Winchester at your Walmart? I pay $12 for 333 at mine...lame.
Thanks for the review tho, this was actually very helpful to me; I'm considering picking one of these up soon. I'm just pissed because I cant get the one with 1911 grips because I live in cali. I only wish the 22/45 had a metal frame like the regular mark iii.
Unfortunately, the Winchester is closer to $20 now, but still cheap to shoot. There is a kit and video out there to adapt 1911 grips to the regular 22/45, but I personally like the slimmer grip.
i have the same gun and love it! it's accurate as hell.. not to mention i've put 2000+ rounds of walmart federal ammo through it and only had 2 refusals to fire and 1 jam.. can't complain!

Federal Champion (525 rounds) works well for me. It usually goes on sale for about $14-16. No way will I feed Remington to any of my .22s.

when you say "dirty", what do you mean?

@charmedmutant Leaves lot of residue in the guns barrel causing the gun to be cleaned alot

@charmedmutant
Leaves lots of crap behind in your gun. Inherent problem when shooting .22 firearms.

i just shot a box of "golden bullet", they are pretty good had afew malfunctions about 10-15 out of the 550 box not bad for the 17$ price at walmart
i just used a 550 count of federal "value pack", all the bullets where seated just as tight as CCI. and i only had 3-5 malfunctions.
accuricy at 15 yards was identical (free hand iron sight)
-using a ruger 22/45 compition target slabside.

I ran 100+ rounds of Win 333 through my 22/45 yesterday without one failure or dud. Win is good .22 ammo.

The remington ammo is crap, lots of misfires and dirty too--lots of unburnt powder. I found that the Federal ammo is excellent and Winchester is ok.
