The locals shouldn't necessarily assume that this orca must have been working in a group, because in 1996 I witnessed a LONE orca-a female- attack a shark, tear it to shreds then eat it's LIVER. The Maori tour guide told us she was a regular-even called her by name-and told me she deliberately goes after sharks for their livers when she is pregnant!

Well known scientific fact that researchers have discovered is that the killer whales off of New Zealand prefer to eat sharks, while those off the Pacific Northwest prefer salmon and those off of Antarctica prefer seals & penguins.
