I'd say with no fear that he has impecable, perfect, unbeatable technique. Those scales coming down are so tender and heavenly, and I couldn't imagine he got there by hours of mindless Hanon-like exercises.

I think his secret is what he replies in the radio interview when he tells a student asked him about technique, and he says "What technique? There is no technique." That sounds right out of a zen master. Buddhists meditate to eliminate the self, maybe the way for a pianist is to practice to eliminate technique?

Lejos la mejor versión del Emperador de Beethoven es la del maestro Claudio Arrau. No sólo es perfecta desde el punto de vista técnico, sino principalmente interpretativo; cada nota y frase musical tiene el sentido exacto, la cadencia perfecta.

He escuchado varios intérpretes, pero a mi juicio ninguno alcanza semejante nivel.
