My dad saw this movie when he was in the army in the early 60's. Three minutes into it, he had the name he would save and give to his baby girl. My name is Milaka. (No, he didn't hear the "R" in it, nor did he read the headstone. But it's still a good story!)
Thanks for posting this film. It is my all-time favorite vampire film, maybe my all-time favorite film, period. I wish someone would come out with a restored and remastered dvd. Thanks again!!
Great movie ! I stumbled across it years ago on TV and missed this early bit; nice to catch up ! A pity it's not on rental DVD in my country yet ( Australia ). Thanks for posting it. They don't make movies like this anymore ! Regards.
I saw this film @ the DeMille Theater, of blessed memory, when it premiered Sep61. It was the kind of film I wouldn't have liked on a bet---my conception of vampires ran more towards HORROR OF DRACULA ('58). The film riveted me from the opening, and has remained one of my favorites since. I have seen the French 87 min. version, *this one* is better---tighter, greater impact. The original was in TECHNIRAMA [2.35-1] this is in 1.66-1 ratio. Also, color from titles lost. But i'm glad it's here.
Thank you so very much for posting! One of my all time favorites, but my VHS copy is broken! I've been needing a "fix" for awhile. Annette Vadim is enthralling.
Interestingly, I'm a great admirer of LeFanu and have read the source novella numerous times; but, in my estimation, of all the films adapted from it, this one is the best. It's as if Vadim set out to do a music "cover" of the literary work but took the approach of not just re-doing the LeFanu without bringing something new to it.
One of the best vampire movies ever!It has the charm attributed to them.Thank you very much for this!I read the book too and despite the slight resemblance the story is captivating and the atmosphere is extraordinary. The actors, the song, the storyline and the director ... everything is in perfect harmony.
Thank you so much for posting this! I originally saw this on late-night tv when I was a little kid, some 30 yrs ago. Parts of it have stuck with me ever since. I can't wait until the dream sequence; I'm really enjoying this.
Very interesting adaptation. I've read LeFanu's novella and it's pretty much nothing like this at all....but it's still interesting. *goes to next part*
had watched this film at the age of nine..sneaked into a movie on the american post, wtihin my small german hometown, remembered when the movie started, with popcorn and a grapefruit-soda on my small lap..did not understand just what I was looking at..can only recall that lusty fear, which made me crumble up in my seat, looking at the screen with horror, through clasped hands in front of my face..now, finally I have the choice to watch it once more..being grown!
I just love this film as well as the wonderful theme-song.
