I remember seeing this video on the Tube TV show in the Uk in 1983, it was shown about 6.30 in the evening.I was 16 at the time & I originally had the Stones down as a bunch of old men !! How wrong was I !!!!!!!The very next day I RAN to the record shop to buy this.
Charlie Watts was interviewed over here in the UK a while back & was saying that he still considers the Stones job as a temporary position before he goes back to his beloved jazz. The fact he has played with them for 40 odd years now didnt seem to register with him!
A good-quality version of the video at last. Notice that the guy in the pool has a pistol in his lap and is reading a book with a picture of Woody Allen on the back - a 'Bananas' reference? And Mick's newspaper has a headline about Grenada being invaded.
Good to see this version. It was banned from many TV stations in its time because of the depicted violence. although its always good to see Keef tryin' to kick micks ass'
this is one of the Stones best tunes. I know it's later but wow it kicks 80's ASS! Not a great album though. Too bad. The next album that kicked was Voodoo Lounge. Inconsistant since then but hey, It's THE STONES!
Not a great album?? Many would beg to differ andy. There are some great tracks on that album including this one, also "She Was Hot", "Wanna Hold You". Check them out!
If I'm not mistaken, this came out around the time of "Scarface." Though unrelated to the film, the video does have that violent gunslinging overtone to it.
I always liked this song. A 180-degree turn from "Start Me Up," "Undercover" pounds with intensity!
Does this video/song remind anyone else of the violence going on in Mexico, which is spilling over our borders? Phoenix is now #2 in kidnapping behind Mexico City!
I wonder if that ending wasn't meant to be a homage to Devo's video for their version of (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction. In both cases, a horny teen finds his efforts to get into his girlfriend's pants thwarted by someone (presumably her father) who appears to be an Army general. Thoughts?
I was about to say this is the Stones' best song ever (the sound of it alone is great, the video makes it even more exciting), but probably better to say this one is to the '80s what "Gimme Shelter" was to the '60s: a brilliant, incredibly forceful interpretation of what was happening (mostly politically) at the time. I'm not a big fan of the violence inside the church but let's face it, far more shocking things were (and still are) happening in various countries' civil wars.
This video was shot in different parts of Mexico City. I had the incredible opportunity to be there when it was filmed; i"m the dude trying to make out with the girl.Seriously it was a blast. Took like a week or so to shoot the whole thing. my youtube channel is alex phillips iii check it out. Great video
My favorite Stones song, but it's funny that this was banned (or at least forced to be edited) because of the church shootout - I was ten when this came out and the guy with the bag over his head being executed in cold blood on the pier was much more shocking. Here's my question, though - it obviously wasn't the "kidnapped" Mick being executed, because in the church shootout he dives into the back seat of the car. So what happens to the "kidnapped" Mick after that? We never see him again...
c'mon Keith is a badass,he would fuck anybody up.I don't care what he is on.he could kick all the guys out of Guns 'N" Roses' asses anytime, and I would pay to watch that.People should stop picking on him.he's gotten old with all those drugs, remember?
Decent enough vid for back in the day - quite daring - but easily one of the best songs they ever did. I don't dance for $#!t but it's hard not to move to that beat!
There used to be a show, believe it or not, called "Friday Night Videos" on NBC, I think on Fridays at about 11:30. I remember this video being on one of the first shows.
Yes, you're right! I used to watch it every Friday night since I didn't have MTV. My friend and I looked forward to sitting in her brilliant living room overlooking Los Angeles and watching all of the new videos - that's when I first saw this video, and loved it!
A great song and a well made and memorable video clip. Keith Richards looks sort of sinister in this clip, playing his part as one of the bad guys well.
But boy, am I glad Keith is a better guitar player, because he was a lousy shot!!! He doesn't aim that gun, at all well (I certainly wouldn't want to hire Keith Richards to protect me). I want to know who played the detective in the white suit? (I could swear it looks a lot like a young William H. Macy -- I wonder if Macy first got his film career start as characters on music vids).
Bloody Hell, what a cracking video, this is the original uncut version which was banned by Top Of The Pops. Mick & the gang have done some great songs but this does kick a lot of ass.
great video...back when they were creative when they made a video...i remember how "shocking" the church shootout scene was when this video came out....
I am STILL one of those "pussies" into Wham!, Culture Club, Duran Duran , etc... BUT NOBODY beats the Stones OR KEITH RICHARDS, that sexy bastard! One of my FAVE Stones vids AND songs. And yes, a GREAT reocrd. Was and still is...
