@givemeajackson not quite. The reason why alexi is so well respected not jsut because of his guitar skills but also because of his song production. He's able to make damm good solos and songs
@Tjeerdoweirdo Or people who have respect for the music, and realize how shit this really is, especially when you know what this music is in it's original context: Pure expressive power, technical beauty, ethereal tone.
This performance is absolute shit. Period.
Dumb-fuck shredders think it's there right to rape classical and baroque masterpieces without any thought given to something as simple as phrasing. Forget about tone, or any coherent emotion. You're lucky to even hear the right notes.
@Tjeerdoweirdo It doesn't matter what his intentions were, this is hack-work all around. It's sloppy, the tone is terrible, there's no care for phrasing, dynamics, or detail.
These pieces are monumental, have extreme passion, are detailed, artistic landmarks, and in short are masterpieces. Some amateur shredder doesn't have the depth or ability to bring these pieces into the full light of their genius - and anything short of genius with these pieces, is an insult.
@PorcupineFloyd68 Dude, first you say: "It doesn't matter what his intentions were" but then you're saying that amateur shedders doesn't have the ability to bring these pieces into the full light of their genius...
That doesn't make any sense dude...
Their intention DOES matter because you're judging this song on things that are not part of their intention.
Think about that, because you don't know what you're saying
@Tjeerdoweirdo But, I'm not judging on the fact that he's an amateur shredder. I judge music solely from the sound. Which I pointed out several reasons why I believe the sound is terrible and insulting to the composers of these pieces.
I simply added that I don't believe any *amateur* shredder would be able to achieve this.
But, I do see where you drew that connection from my wording.
@PorcupineFloyd68 If 68 is your birthdate, I'm even OLDER than you. I have a degree in music, play a dozen instruments, including 'cello & have performed Vivaldi's "Four Seasons" with a symphony orchestra. I won't drop F-bombs, as much as I'm tempted, but you're an ASS! This kid is AWESOME & that took a LOT of work to learn. Who cares if it's not perfect, & who cares if it's played on a Jackson or Strat rather than a Stradivarius? Classical LIVES! If it ain't baroque, don't CRITICIZE it.
@musicalman77 You fool! Art is always to be criticized. One cannot praise nor judge unless one criticizes first. Music isn't just notes. It doesn't come alive just from the notes simply being played, written or read. Classical music never died. But, it doesn't live here. It's performed to beautiful perfection every day by wonderful musicians - musicians who have respect for the art they are a part of: that is where Classical music lives.
Who cares? People who actually love and respect the music.
@PorcupineFloyd68 I *do* have respect for the music, & for Antonio Vivaldi & J.S. Bach, & I don't think it's "shit" at all. I think it's amazing & a wonderful thing that this kid chose to tackle it (& did it quite well, IMO). To imply (or state outright) that he's a "dumb-fuck shredder" who "rapes classical & baroque masterpieces" is just rude. I went to your channel. Amazingly, no uploads of YOU doing it "RIGHT!" Everybody's a critic. You're just jealous. It's a cover. Get over it.
@musicalman77 Good reasoning: "You haven't done it yourself, so your opinion has no validity."
Look! I went to your channel, and I don't see you performing. Now everything YOU have said has no validity.
No, you won't see me performing either of these pieces. That means nothing, though, in my criticizing.
Jealous? You truly are a fool. Is this how you normally go about an argument? I'm obviously not jealous. As my statements have shown, I am outraged at the disrespect for the masterpieces used.
@PorcupineFloyd68 OK, conceded: I'm a fool & you're an ass. Ad hominem attacks aside, you make some valid points. Art is indeed to be criticized. It is also entirely subjective; musical knowledge or skill aside, in the end your opinion is just as valid as mine. You may hate what I love & vice-versa; that's OK & maybe we just need to agree to disagree. You also make a good point about expression; I've always been critical of Suzuki method kids; technically accurate but very robotic/non-musical.
@PorcupineFloyd68 As a point of fact, I *do* perform publicly & weekly (weakly?), & am aware of some of my performances posted on YouTube; but *I* did not post them here---just don't see the need. I have performed both of these pieces in my past. I guess it's the harsh/rude approach that bugs me; rather than call this kid a "dumb-fuck shredder" I'd rather encourage him to try harder; I applaud his effort. So you're Simon Cowell & I'm Paula Abdul. But if his work offends you, don't listen.
You're right. I am too harsh. I purposely do that when I know I'm taking the view of the minority.
To be honest, the video didn't offend me. I was ready to leave the page, when I saw the comment: "People who dislike this, are just jealous and depressed because they can't do this." Which irritates the hell out of me, because there's so many more reasons to not like this, as I pointed out - so I replied on a level that I had guessed he wasn't ready to argue on.
@shinn43 Not technique wise he isnt...not by a long shot. This guy has much muuch better sweeping chops than Alexi, for a start Alexi uses the same shapes over and over again...the easiest ones wheras this guy across his video set has done pretty much all of them (at least all of the major and minor 3 voice inversions) including six string ones..the stuff he plays in his videos is way way above any children of bodom piece in terms of difficulty.
@shinn43 I did not say anything about minor or major scales...I talked about arpeggio inversions. Just check out his cover of the solo from 'beautiful death' (or any of his other wintersun covers really), that piece is waaay way waaaaaaaaaay above anything Alexi has ever played in terms of difficulty. Alexi is good, but technique wise this guy is better, by quite some distance.
@MetalguitarlessonsUK I know about wintersun I;m just waiting for their new album and yes Jaeri is alot better than Alexi. I like Jaeri's tone better than Alexi, and now Alexi's new album might be a dissappointment. Check it out " Was it worth it"
@shinn43 string sweeps (which is much more often than when he does 5's) he actually on sweeps the accending notes, he hammers on the descending ones which is faaaaaaaar easier to play but sounds nowhere near as good, listen to alexi sweeping and then listen to this guy, alexi's do not sound as smooth. So yah technique wise this guy is much better than Alexi (who is still good).
when you sweep do you use the meat on your palm or the side of your thumb to mute it? I've heard about, and tried both ways. you seem pretty good at the way you do it so I want to know so I can practice it the way you do. lol. Great cover btw. \m/
Yeah you are right about the sv standard I just noticed the ESP white box logo across the fingerboard, however he actually 'based his shit off of' a Jackson RR...!
@666ArchEnemy The guitar itself is. He used this guitars artwork as the foundation for his guitars style. If you look up guitar heroes - a finnish album similar to Roadrunner Records - Roadrunner United, you'll see him playing one of these guitars - I believe. Not sure.
kirkpetrucci is the best. Before you argue search him and watch some of his videos. He almost never makes a mistake. This guy is definitely second best though.
rasite has always been a hero to me!, he reminds me so much of Alexi, even though rasite isnt in some huge band, he still tends to be on my top 5 players list!
the classical music gives me more ideas to compose...and i mix em with other musics...as flamenco, blues and a little bit of jazz (this is veryfuckin hard) ...nice shreddin...keep playin
the esp body is way different from the jackson (sharper angles, longer lower horn, cutout, ect.). Jacky's have a (much) different fret board and a thiner neck.
@g00glemast3r The lower frets on the Jackson RR's are almost impossible to get to also, and none of them come as "tricked out" as the SV standard from ESP...My guess is that the reason Jackson copywrited the RR shape is so ESP wouldn't put them out of business, not you can't get a SV standard in the states, which is a much better guitar than the new jackson RRs...fucking assholes....
@XionComrade not true, have you sean the heel on an SV or a Jackson rr? the Rhoads has a much more ergonomic heel compared to the SV, which is blockier.
the cutout from neck to body on the SV starts at the 21st fret BUT it starts at the 17th fret on the opposite side, forcing you to move your thumb as you progress, RRs start at 17.
the RR1's come stock; 2 humbuckers, 2 volume nobs, 1 tone, tremolo bridge.
@g00glemast3r I guess the ones I saw were low grade, because Jackson does have a low grade like. You know if they make a RR model that is neck through, 2 humbucker pickups, floyd rose tremolo, with extra jumbo frets? I couldn't find on on the site...seems like they all lacked something
@g00glemast3r Ahh that is awesome :D I may have to look into the RR1, if I can get one with pinstripes I'd be a happy customer! Probably switch out the pickups for something dimarzio, maybe even have a gain boost put in. It would be MUUUUCH easier to aquire than any ESP SV, which looks the best IMO.
Thats fucking good

@PorcupineFloyd68 Well, you're right about the thing that people can't beat the classical orginal.
But I think that's not the intention of the guitarplayers who play a guitar version of this song.
I think that this also sounds very cool, and it also takes a lot of practise to play this on guitar (especially if you want it to sound good).
So don't look at it as a classical rape, but just as an another version :P

Baroque sweeps played in a heavily distorted guitar is the most beautiful sound the man has ever produced

kirkpetrucci is the best. Before you argue search him and watch some of his videos. He almost never makes a mistake. This guy is definitely second best though.

rasite has always been a hero to me!, he reminds me so much of Alexi, even though rasite isnt in some huge band, he still tends to be on my top 5 players list!

I wasn't too big on FFVIII. The gunblades were cool, but I didn't like how you had to buy spells and have a certain amount of them. Great solo btw.

the esp body is way different from the jackson (sharper angles, longer lower horn, cutout, ect.). Jacky's have a (much) different fret board and a thiner neck.
g00glemast3r 2 years ago 2

SV have; 2 pups, 1 volume nob, trem bridge.
jackies are more "tricked out".

XionComrade 1 year ago
@XionComrade the RR1 and the RR5 both have those features, the 5 has rosewood and the RR1 has Ebony and is pretty much a match to the SV.
g00glemast3r 1 year ago
@g00glemast3r Ahh that is awesome :D I may have to look into the RR1, if I can get one with pinstripes I'd be a happy customer! Probably switch out the pickups for something dimarzio, maybe even have a gain boost put in. It would be MUUUUCH easier to aquire than any ESP SV, which looks the best IMO.
XionComrade 1 year ago
@XionComrade yeah, if your an Alexi fan they have yellow pinstripes.
g00glemast3r 1 year ago
@g00glemast3r Yeah the yellow looks pretty good, white would be muuuuch better IMO :D
