@Edwardo1993 You don't just "learn" it. It takes a good few years of practice to be able to do the patterns, then if you can read music it'll help a lot, or you'll have to remember everything off by ear.
If you could do the last 2 minutes or so of the song Weightless by them. That would be epic. Oh btw awesome AAL covers!!! and You look like the guy from Always Sunny In Philadelphia hahaha
Dud, amazing, like all your other covers, its damn hard to get all the song that perfect, ur the best doing this cover. My unique suggestions are ur toms. I mean, ur using your 16 and 14? maybe. they are cool, but they kind resonate too much. For animals as leaders stuff i would suggest to tune them lower and dyer as possible. Check the kit that navene used for Weightless, its a tama hyper drive, with 6.5"x10" Tom Tom and 7"x12" Tom Tom, that way he gets the driest sound. thats all. :)
hey brotha,,,im a big fan of ur drumming..i loe it..i watch it all the time...but thats a whole bunch of people...i have the same question as mr. MasonStroudDrumming ,.. Are you ambidextrous?...i think it might b a rhetorical question cause u a badass...but it might not b the case...which would make u even more bad ass...cause i beleive there is no limits to anyones bodys...we just learn as children to use one hand more than the othr...anyway..ur a badass!!!!! !,,! keep up the FantasticWORK
@MasonStroudDrumming Most drummers that play this set up either are, or become much more comfortable with playing open handed on both sides; since the drums are just "played" rather than worrying about which hand plays them, much like Mike Mangini
two questions: do you ever get tired of being asked to do covers? cause i see you as definitely more of a "i'm putting MY shit out there" type of guy. haha.
and also, do you get tired of being compared to other drummers?
Does having your kick beaters that long make it harder to play? Like it would take more effort to hit the kick drum than if they were shorter...? That's what I always though, I may be wrong.
Hey man, I've watched just about all your videos and you're absolutely amazing! Is it possible for you to tell me how you managed to get your left foot leading as much as your right on the bass drum? Also, where do I begin if I want to learn this type of music on drums? Animals As Leaders are one of my favourite bands but I find it hard to learn any of their songs due to the constant time changes and poly rhythms contained in every song. Thanks! :)
I've been watching your channel for sometime now man, and I must say always impressive! You, along with Travis Orbin, were the ones who inspired me to add a second hi hat. I plan on doing some AAL covers too... but keep scaring myself out of it... ha.
are you left handed? not only because you play (i think it is called) off-handed, but i saw that you play the single bass work with the left foot. or is it just to train your left muscles more?
I'm curious on why you choose to have a tom on the left and on the right rather than having one mounted and the floor tom on the right. Is it personal preference or just the layout of the song makes it easier? Please elaborate.
Well, I WAS going to cover this, but you do this song SO much justice. HELL of a job man. Thoroughly impressed. Although, you took Travis Orbin's setup. ;) :P
I like the natural bass sound a lot more than the triggers, but i understand the need for them when you get to doing 6s and 32nd notes and whatnot. crazy bastard. haha
I cannot stop watching this! Alex, you are such a beast! By the way, what sticks are you using? MS4's? And if you don't mind revealing your secrets, what steps do you go through to learn and transcribe a song like this? Akward outro FTW!!!
The sound is incredible man! Good call on the natural kick drum. Its sounds so punchy perfect for the djent sound. Also, i cant believe you can sight read and play at the same time. Your brain must work like a quad-core processor. LOL. So much to process in seconds. Props.- Manny
ALEX!!! I am so happy to see you do a cover of this. If you get the chance check my drum cover of this song so you can tell me all the things I did wrong haha. Absolutely stellar job man. five stars!!
Quick question about your G2's. I use a clear G2 on my 16" floor tom, but i have to use an Evans control ring, because the ring is horrific otherwise and it compromises the sound. Do you find the same problem? I can't see if you use any dampening method or not, and i wonder if it's just my head, as i doubt all G2's are as sketchy as mine..
@inimicalODDITY Ahh, forgot about that Tempting Time cover you put up long ago. It's also crazy to see you playing Evans in so many of your more recent vids. I've always loved Evans and told many Remo fans that if they tried the Emad, they would fall in love.
Alex you are my hero. I've been listening to this AALbum religiously and I wanted to see someone play this because I can'y even get close. You are perfect in every possible way ;) no homo lmao
There are mics on the toms. They're pretty easy to see, the 16" tom mic is directly under my right crash. The 14" is in the same spot on the opposite side, but it's a bit covered in view by the stack.
Who would dislike this...They are obviously jealous of his amazing talent :P
