  • lol gilboa is right near me, that dam didn't break.

  • yehh i happen to live in Mburgh NY nd the dam NEVER broke, now the schools have emergency evac plans IF it ever broke, which is not likely.

  • This is a VERY important story for anyone who lives in the shadow of the NYC DEP's reservoirs. GOOD to see so many views! Here are a couple of other YouTube videos that show the devastation the DEP helps cause:

The Delaware Floods and the NYC DEP

The East Branch Floods. Devastation in the Town of Colchester, NY

Also Google "DAM FAILURE" DEP Downsville, NY

  • New Orleans was horrible because the was no help accepted by the administration in charge at the time. We haven't begun to see the flooding that's possible one planet Earth. One gallon of water weighs over eight pounds, now imagine billions on billions of gallons of water move at an unstoppable rate. Wake up to that!

  • What are you trying to say from this video I'm missing the message

  • @nycwiseguy91 You came to the party late. The commentator stated, the "dam broke" during the live broadcast. I went to grab my camera to capture the rest of his commentary and what I did capture, well you can view the rest of the broadcast here for yourself. My reaction, OMG Katrina all over again! As you can see, the dam did not break which is a good thing.

  • Good information in comments here. What happened to North Blenheim? I know the covered bridge was destroyed, but Eastside Road on east side of State 30 east of North Blenheim, and how about the current regular bridge that crosses Schoharie Creek at Blenheim?

  • The Dam DID NOT Break....the water just went over the top.....

  • ferevatogether-i'm so sorry didn't mean to leave anyone out- i live in schoharie county also, but we STILL have no phones-Verizon really screwed up big time. we haven't had a phone since the day of the flood. no power for a full week either. when did you get your power back? i still haven't tried to venture down your way-i take my dog to the vet in howes cave. do you know of any roads that are still not passable?such a pain only having a computer to rely on but i won't complain.

  • Dam did not break. The part missing from the top of the dam is a notch that was put there as part of the dam renovation that is under current construction. The notch was made bigger just before this "event".

  • My husband works for DEP NYC patrolling the dam and surrounding area. THE DAM DID NOT BREAK OR MOVE!!!!!! Needless to say, Prattsville, Windham, Blenheim, Middleburgh, Schoharie have been totally devastated.

  • and parts of Cntral Bridge and esperance to oh wait we dont count

  • -.- This is pathetic.. My dad was working ON the schoharie bridge when they told him to get out of there~ The dam shifted. If didnt break. -.- There was a rumor it did. and the person who started it meant it as a "joke"

  • It was a Type B emergency (monitoring systems lost or malfunctioned; potential exists for a break). It overflowed (topped by about 7 feet of water). It did not break. The title is HIGHLY misleading.

  • the dam was breached! Not broken...

  • While the Dam techncically did not "break", it did reach Maximum levels, and THEN at that crucial point, THEN, did the Gilboa management decide to OPEN THE FLOODGATES.

THAT is what is not being mentioned and THAT is in serious need of SCRUTINY< Standard operating procedure is to release water in the days PRIOR to arrival of the storm, WHY was that never done, Irene was far from a surprise ? It's an act of aggression to let Dam to reach it's height and THEN to open floodgates .INVESTIGATE !!

  • My boyfriend is a code enforcement officer & has talked to officials from Fema and the state and while the damn never did break they did say that the flooding was as bad as if the damn had broke. The destruction from Irene was Schoharie County's worst case scenario. The devastation is just so horrible, there are towns that were hit so hard they are no longer even there.

  • @Ultimatecruegirl Sorry seems like I can no longer spell dam correctly.

  • im a volunteer fire fighter in schohaire county the dam never broke it just breach the top

  • If the dam had broken, the water level in Prattsville would have DROPPED, since it is UPSTREAM from the dam, which was retrofitted in 2004 to fix structural issues. I guess they actually did secure it.

I have been going to that area for 30+ years. Just look on google maps. Follow the creek from the reservoir in a SE direction and you will find Prattsville(S/SE of Gilboa). You can also see the town of Prattsville being at a higher elevation than the Schohaire reservoir.

  • @Shocked6302 . Ya beat me to it. I used to live in Jefferson. The dam is upstream from there. And I thought that it was bad in 93, I believe, during another flood. I seen water shoot up over 2 feet from manholes in Delhi then. It will happen again people. I just pray that all are safe.

  • @Shocked6302 Cobleskill, Middleburgh and Schoharie would have been in the path if the dam broke

  • @Shocked6302 Cobleskill, Middleburgh and Schoharie would have been in the path if the dam broke

  • THE DAM NEVER BROKE THANK GOD...

  • FOX wrong again, thank god. And Fox did plenty to put W. and his Cronies into office to make FEMA a tragic joke and make New Orleans a living hell. More fear mongering from the Fox Fiends.

  • Is Lexington okay? Wow Prattsville could little afford this. They have one of the best diners in the world!

  • @LanaBanana53 lexington isn't to bad though prattsville was pretty much distroed though people are working together and hard to help the clean up

  • Gilboa Dam did not break. Record flooding, but dam is still there.

  • That picture they are showng of the dam is not a current shot. The lock in Tribes Hill which is below that dam on the Mohawk River was distroyed. A friend has shots of that on facebook.

  • Correct. The commentator stated the dam is breaking. By the time, I was able to capture the rest of the broadcast that part of his commentary had past.

  • break..you do mean over the top right? not the whole dam..right ?

  • @howardb42006 According to the commentator you are correct. Remember the New Orleans flood back in 2005. The water was going over the dam until the pressure broke the dam...

  • @secretsoftheengima thanks for the clarification...

  • @howardb42006 NP Don't forget pray for the victims. Thanks

  • @secretsoftheengima I shall...

  • @howardb42006 there has been no structural damage to the Gilboa dam
