  • Where I work, you get in big trouble if you don't have a person standing at the back of the truck to make sure you don't hit anything. Most the time the drive doesn't need you back there, so you end up just standing there. But, it's in the rules.

  • wow this is cool....not....

  • @bushwacker1989 That sounds like a good idea! One wrong move could cost a LOT of money!

  • probably male drivers. nothin against you ladies out there:) but its proven guys can park better

  • @cd01020 probably because guys always look condescendingly at girls and say, we got this, and never give us the chance!

  • fire fighters are beast like that and can do that =)

  • @1873qwerty,

It is not the law but it is common practice taught in the EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operators Course) training. And yes it is a safety measure so other vehicles know to stop and let you back in. But most departments have a ground guide policy.

  • bhhjjji.

  • learn to use ur mirrors and thats what you could do one day

  • This is pretty standard...

  • Nice drivin you guy's, you do a great job the world over, Be proud!! peace an good luck. A Trucker out of London England.

  • 1,121,180 as of 11:20 pm EDT 3/30/2011

  • football game must have been on

  • What's the make and year of A-1?

  • nice.... well trained.

  • wow! I sometimes have to take 2 tries, while backing my car out of our 12 foot wide gate....

  • i think it's dangerous and at the same time cool to be a firefighter. :-bd

  • you know what make they could do it so easily,, there're straight yellow lines in front of the garage doors as the drivers guide..

  • cant really look out of the back of these trucks, because you CANT...mirrors are always good and if you have someone to help you spot is helpful too

and as someone who drives an ambulance, you are required to activate your emergency lights when backing into the station

  • Backing up watching the mirrors is way easier than bending over to the back seat ;)

  • @sleeptyper Absolutely correct. Thanks!

  • @mrccross Its funny but I feel a lot more safe backing a firetruck with the side mirrors than a normal car with all the mirrors and looking over the back of the seat..

  • @sleeptyper dude u dont have a clue how hard it is to back in one of these things

  • @benashlock I drive an 8 ton truck as my job :)

  • There good at backing up.Takes me a 4min to line and park in my garage backwards they do it like its walking in a park.

  • @WWEIsTheAwesome That's why this simple 90-second video got over a million hits! Congrats to the neb of the BFD - Bethlehem Fire Department and thanks for your comment

  • @WWEIsTheAwesome I guess you could also paint lines on your driveway. Just the way they do to make it easier for you.

  • @WWEIsTheAwesome they have lines on the floor that line up with the garage doors, so they know where to turn. put some in your driveway, and you'll be able to back up like that ;)

  • HEY, T-1 cheated and didn't back up

  • what backup alarm is on t-1?

  • Nope, false alarm!

  • Must have been a big fire to send all the trucks out plus the battalion chief.

  • well theres 1:32 seconds of my life wasted..........>_> this sucks!!

  • Great clip!

  • wow these guys are pretty good at reversing

  • Are some of you really fighting over "mine is bigger than yours"? Geeeez!

  • And?

  • we got a new truck like that...first day they got it (about a week old) they back it in as fast as they could and the roof caught the top of the door...dumb fuckers.

  • Bethlehem was Jesus's birthplace!

  • just follow one of these psychopats arround the block, see where they going and what they do!!actually these guys are the terrorists in our cities, who are getting their orders from their sick chiefs and bandits of society.

  • @Bartzy08 Hey, no offense taken! I'd like to see some photos of those pretty UK fire trucks! Why not send some along?

  • @mrccross okkk will do got some pics ive taken on my own whats your email?

  • @Bartzy08 well if ur from the uk then thats different but if not uk ones are mega ugly

  • @Bartzy08 LOL you must be joking. UK trucks look like big bricks.

  • @Bartzy08 You keep your small, low water capacity, low pumping ability trucks. We'll keep our hard working, strong fire apparatus.

  • @chechnya who cares about the size, as long as it can do what it was built for

  • @Bartzy08 well i think the ones in the video looks better then the uk ones

  • @Bartzy08 do you drive them on the wrong side of the road?

  • @Bartzy08 its not about the looks if it saves at least one life it was worth driving an ugly truck

  • @Bartzy08 DUDE YOUR JST JELOUSE BECUASE ARE SMATER GET OVER YOUR SELF NOOB

  • @Bartzy08 a million hits don't lie

  • Is this Bethlehem, NH? Home of the old Man in the mountain?

  • Nope, this is Bethlehem, Pa. home of ...ummm... help me out here folks!

  • @mrccross home of the bethlehem FD

  • @skyman2002fanclub | Good one Skyman!

  • @mrccross the woods?

  • u say full time in usa, in France we say Professional.

  • millitakim: What do you call volunteer services? Unprofessional?!

  • @emt89 no they are just volunteers

  • is this department fulltime or volunteer

  • Hi, This is a full-time Fire Department. Thanks for asking.

  • @1873qwerty it is the law that you HAVE to turn your emergency lights on while backing into a fire station, so that cars and other vechicles can see you and pay more attention. You may find it sstupid and pointless but it can save your life

  • @301whitehall in germany u cant do this.... :(

  • @301whitehall but with this logic every car had to have emergency lights...

do fire trucks in america have the right to drive over intersections also on their way back home?

here it's prohibited for them, they may use their emergency lights only on the way to an emergency, in all other cases they are cars like every other car, with no extended traffic rights

  • @301whitehall its a good idea in theory, but morons dont always get that there backing in and they need to stop there stupid asses. hell we hit the horn and wind up the siren and sometimes it still doesnt work...

  • Because it's SOP to have the emergency lights on when they are backing up

  • Because they are blocking the road

  • Yes, the lights are necessary because they are stopping traffic on the street while they position themselves to back into the yard.

  • yah we use our lights when we back in to the station

  • Nice video.

  • hello!

firefighter am in Brazil, but here in Brazil the reality is quite different! still use the arrow pierce 1992

and works very well and our governor wants to reform them in the U.S..

hug to all firefighters in the world!

  • def not a women driver!

  • This might be a nice video if the guy would shut up saying phenominal... :-(

  • is this department full time or volunteer

  • lol never saw a fire station with 2 Enignes :P

  • My new station is only gonna run 2 engines and a pick up and our 2nd station is gonna run a Rescue, Truck and Pickup

  • @MistahDjAj dont knoe about you but i saw 3 not 2 LOL!

  • Very fast backup!

  • because they were turning around and backing up on the street and alerting traffic of it...a lot of depts do it, its not uncommon..

  • yepp my city has to do that, the officer also stands in the street blocking it off for the rig to get in, idk how other places do that though

  • In many states, it's a state law that any emergency vehicle must have emergency lights on to back up, on or off scene.

  • yes there is, they are inerfearing with traffic, its the law that you have to

  • sweet =]

  • Dis is phenomenal

  • We don't have lines at our house, the lines help a lot.

  • so cool

  • haha its easier than you think, those yellow lines on the ground direct the trucks into the beys. Its a little tricky when you first start driving trucks simply do to the pure bulk of them, but you get the hang on them really quick. Nice video tho!

  • It's interesting how different countires develop totally different vehicles for the same purpose!

  • your an idiot. Go sit in the corner.

  • Almost a half million views and this is a sweet comment, thank you! Yep, just real life, real skill--and real exciting!

  • After the first few tries, it isn't so hard to back them in strait, especially with the lines. When I used to drive ambulance/heavy rescue, all of our vehicles had a parabolic mirror angled down, where we could pick up the rear tire, and the line. All we had to do was line everything up and back strait in.

  • My 2 year old loves this video - yes, it's just real life - thanks

  • And?? Fire apparatus back into their quarters thousands of times per day all across the country.

  • You're right, but this is real life. Not a movie.

  • Fast backing!

Thick bright yellow lines are excellent guides.

    Just line up on them.

What does that fire signal at :45 read/do?

  • My bet is that, like most others, it will turn red and stop traffic to allow the fire trucks the right of way when getting on the road.

  • Yes.

    But how does it work?

Yellow lights flash 24 hours and middle sign illuminates when fire trucks are responding?

Or was it activated and flashing, otherwise no flashing lights when not?

  • I believe the yellow lights flash almost all the time, but may switch off when the red sign (Possibly light, I can't tell) comes on. That's how a lot of stuff around here works.

  • It's just a flashing yellow signal over the roadway to alert motorists of emergency vehicle activity. Thanks for asking!

  • Thank you, mr X.

What does it display and how does it work?

Our fire station had a rotating red light and mechanical siren hanging over the middle of the street in front of the station.

It was activated from a black button on the wall.

It functioned for 90 seconds, I believe.

During an elementary school class visit, a boy pressed the button.

    It could not be canceled!

To prevent needless traffic back-up on the busy four lane street, I ran outside to direct traffic to proceed.

  • See the lines for each bay? They help do this big time.

  • Ill never get back the minute thirty two seconds back of my life I spent watching this...lol

  • lol theres an american city called bethlahem

  • As well as a London, Paris, etc...

  • That's what I thought! I drive limousines and buses and I'd never be able to back up that fast, that smooth and that perfectly...these guys are great! Thanks for the comment

  • this is amazing, im a volunteer and at our department we use backers and the engineers still hit the doors sometimes. I'm very impressed by the precision and speed at which these drivers backed in

  • Some people can't back their car into their driveway, I think this video is respectable in it's own light. That's some nice precision reverse parking. :)

  • how is this cool or awsome? every dept does that. if u wanna see cool, watch a fire truck squeeze between 2 cars with only an 1.5 inches to spare on both sides

  • OK, nobody said it's a miracle, but it's a darned good example of the driving skills that these guys have

  • im not even checked off to drive the bigger trucks at our dept but i have still backed them in like that almost every other weekend when we take them out for training.. no skill involved.

  • Yes, only our highly trained and heroic firefighters can manage the herculean task of backing up a two-axle, non-articulated vehicle with no trailer and a clear line of sight directly straight into an open garage.

    God watch over them.

  • When your house catches on fire... you see just how amazing the things we do are... When your wife or kids are stuck in a car that's seconds from exploding, and we manage to pull them out just before the car catches fire, that my friend... will actually blow your mind. Perhaps you don't have a youtube video because your too stupid to post it?

  • Calm down there, bucko.... I was goofing on the submitter for being fascinated by trucks being able to reverse, not fireman.

    Yeesh. Sensitive much?

  • hey watch your mouth n quit bashing others before you lose your utube privleges

  • I backed my car into my garage without hitting anything yesterday, and I manage to do it every day.

    Where is my youtube video?

If the poster found this amazing, I have a magical tube of plastic that creates fire when I press a button. Trust me, it will blow your mind.

  • Hey I can do that too, can I have a youtube video too? Oh ya, thats right, we don't have backup warnings that go beep beep. Damn... haha

  • thats awesome. one of neighbor units did that and took one of their own out.LOL Some departments dont have that much space

  • OMG!!! one minute and thirty two seconds of pure fire-trucks backing up joy!! I love this video, It's now in my favorites. I swear, look at it.

  • And thats how guys get ran over because people go too fast into the bays. Pretty smart.

  • Are you stupid? Yes, yes you are.

  • no what he is trying to show is that unlike most firefighters that takes several attepmts to back into a firestation and take several min and block off the road while they do it they did it flawlessly in seconds and didnt stop traffic

  • they did stop traffic for the second engine.. look on the left side when the engin is backing in, he has his lights on, and once he clears the streat a van begins to go from a stop and the firefighter that was let out to help stop traffic begins walking toward the station.

  • look at that drive way i could land jumbo jet in it... try backing this truck up on a one way street in nyc then talk about it being cool

  • this is cool i'm with bethlehem volunteer fire department in bethlehem wv

  • I just realized bethelhem doesnt have Qs!

  • it will b funny if they all reversed iinto the station n as d car goes in they get another call out 2 a fire or summin lol.

  • Happens once and a while where I am, or we all get in the truck roll out and get recalled, don't even make it off the driveway.

  • learn how to talk, youre an idiot.

  • omg im sick of people like you, im using slang, and im quite smart actually....

  • Learn how to spell, "You're" and idiot stupid i hate people like you.

  • learn how to talk with some respect.

  • Sorry if you been offended by my comment, in my eyes you´r heroes.

I recon backin in to the station realy isent the most important thing you do, or???

    Stay safe, Thomas.

  • It didn't offend me, that second comment was for codywilliams35, I clicked on your name by accident. I take that back about the front wheels, I was thinking you were talking about a school bus. I respect the fact you actually said that you respect us, surprisingly a lot of people look down on us and just think we sit in front of the station all day wasting they're money and they dont see all the inhumane things we deal with everyday. It's just a hot topic for most of us. I apologize.

    Jared

  • what? what was wrong with the way they backed up? They had traffic stopped. . .lights, and back up sirens

not sure what ur edge is on this

  • I'm with you.

  • sure, looks badass but whos there safety officer and does he still have a job?

  • the guy in the white shirt looks like that geek on The Big Bang Theory.

  • baptiste64500 camions de pompiers video de qualité!

  • i love the paint jobs on the bay doors. esp. the middle one. you cant see it in here but if you drive by, you'll see what i mean.

  • Which station is it? I get up to Bethlehem frequently.

  • southside. 4th street. in between filmore and polk streets. in my opinion its a good paint job. im not sure what anyone would think. but yea if ya get a chance check it out.

  • wow... how... fascinating, backing in .... ?

  • that is actually pretty cool, they did it surpisingly fast. when i back up in an engine or a rescue i cant do it that fast. maybe if you ever drove an aparatus you'd have some appreciation for it.

  • Never been impressed by someone backing in, or up for that matter; with the exception that they do not hit anything or anyone. I am a professional driver, and have driven many larger vehicles over the last 22 years.

  • It's fairly sad and a good sign of the lack of intelligence of people who stand at emergency services and stare at simplistic stuff like parking. And, the same morons when you're going hot through traffic don't get out of the way. People are just stupid, plain and simple; you don't have to be a professional to figure that out.

  • unless you have driven a fire truck then you have no clue what your talking about. for the driver all the trucks you drive the wheels are in front of you, in fire trucks the front wheels are behind you so your front end swings out. and for everyone else you are just citizens who have no idea how hard anything is in the fire service.

  • big deal when your going backvards in a strigth line, like driving a bus.

  • Like driving a bus? Actually nothing alike. Unless your bus has 1,500 gallons of water sloshing around and the front wheels behind the drivers seat, then I would understand and that would be an intelligent statement, but its not. Don't say its like something when you have no experience.

  • Actually on a bus the driver sits in front of the wheels, as for the water a tankertruck has the same problem, and the backin up inside he staion, i can do that wiht a´n 18 wheeler.

I hawe owned a bus, been driving trucks for 20years, newer had an accident but never extingushed any fire.

For that i respect you and your co-workwers.

Yo have my gratitude and respect for risking your lives savig me and the rest of the comunity. Backin a truck like this is childsplay for mee.

  • Nice Video!!

when i'm backing up into our station it's the best feeling in the world, people stop at our station and watch us back up into our garage

  • true pro!

  • I could back up that fast but wouldn'y be nearly as accurate! CRASH!!!

  • I could do that. (I plan on making it my career)

  • That is awesome! They are pros....great footage

  • That's on the south side's 4th street aint it?

  • Correct! And the firefighters were extremely courteous and helpful to our writers group and answer our questions and show us around the trucks and the station.

  • nice looking rigs... E-3 looks like the oldest... nice video!

  • Cool! Glad you like it, thanks for the positive comment.

  • e3 is the ldest but yet its still the most commly used fire engine there is 3 at my soon to be sation

  • hey lol thanks for posting this cuz i didnt have to watch my nephew for 1:31 lol thanks kewl
