Out here in the states cu, we dont give a fuck if you mixed, not mixed, 10% black or 100%, or just got dark skin.... YOU BLACK. and we dont give a fuck if you from Africa, Latin America, or India... you still BLACK (its some cold shit out here cuz) EASTSIDE Long Beach RTC
of course everyone will answer according to their little personal experience but overall we have no problems with PR since we have a lot in common culturally, ethnically etc..we do have a huge baseball rivalry though. But again you may find some dominicans who dont like puerto ricans and vice versa, but at the end of the day cuba, puerto rico and DR coulda been provinces or state of a single country considering all we share
This is a beautiful mini documentary of the African roots in the Dominican Repubulic but the funny thing about it is I live in Washington Heights in New York and alot of them that are darker than me try to deny their heritage. Whats up wit that? I think some of the most gorgeous women that I have seen are the black Dominicans. I find it so sexy to see a black woman that speaks spanish and this is comming from an African American brother. If anyone of u sistas are out there hit me up......
The thing is we don't have the mentality like the society of America. Out of many we are one. We are a proud society by just saying that we are Dominicans. Don't get me wrong their is SOME racism in D.R. but not as much like in America. To sum it up we don't use the term sistas that's an American thing.
We, the latinamericans from latinamerica. America for us is what it has always been since its adoption in the the early XVI century: the new continent that goes from Canada to Tierra de Fuego. Read your history.
I love to see proud afro-dominicans. And, yes there is such a thing as caribbean culture. Most of our mainstream music and most of our culture was constructed after the amalgamation of our west african and spanish cultures. We're a mixed people and it shows in every aspect of our culture. To say there is no such thing as caribbean culture is plain ignorant...... so ignorant, in fact, that I know you're american for saying that.
The very first enslaved Africans brought to the Americas were brought through the Port of Santo Domingo over 100 years prior to the arrival of Africans to Jamestown in 1619. The very first palenques of runaway communities were established in the mountain range of Bahoruco. Africa lives in every day life in DR; our vernacular, music, religion, food, people -- is everywhere.
Google Fradique Lizardo and discover the folklore of Afro DR.
This is truly African Dominican roots. As a Dominican I'm proud and honored to be from this country. I hope people around the world get to see what it is to be a Dominican.
