  • Love that touch screen! Oh wait, Korg is the company that has had that since the 90's. Someday Yamaha will catch up. Someday.

  • @McHale72 Haha, who cares about a screen when Korg's acoustic instruments sound like Casio keyboards lmao

  • @Dadee3 High 5 there , yamaha is king when it comes to real instrument sounds.

  • @McHale72 to be honest touch screen isn't anything big imean yeah almost everything has it already but yamaha's got what korg doesn't which matters more than touch screen and that's much much better real instrument sounds sampled by real yamaha instruments, pianos are alot more realistic than korg's and that's because of the way everything is sampled. korg's got synths covered but forget about real instrument sound cause on korg they're synthesized at least that;s kinda how it sounds.(not sold)

  • Hey, just wanted to let everyone know I've left Open Labs and started a new company called Music Computing. Check out the new gear at Music Computing or click the link below for videos. - Thanks, Victor Wong

  • OASYS is better...

  • @GREGCAST70 - I'm a Fantom "X" user as well, but this Motif has got it beat...had this been on the market ( XS) when the Fantom X debuted I would have went with this...Hell, I think I will, now that the price has come down on the Motif xs!

  • @1Mellodee I found one new on musiciansfriend and it was 2,599 the cheapest you'll find it guaranteed.

  • Out of the Fantom, MOTIF, and M3, I still choose the M3. If I wanted orchestral sounds, I could go buy Symphobia.

  • Otherwise I think this is a good workstation, but I don't lik the sequencer that much.. It doesn't have that many editing functions and it may be hard to program something like orchestral stuff without using midi files.. Of course you can use the performance mode and the arpeggiators, but, the arpeggiator patterns need to be programmed first.. again it may be hard to program some stuff without midi files. I wish this instrumen would have pianoroll editing or somthing like that. I may get a M3..

  • haha true that

  • the triton also allows 8 layers in one voice, so i dont believe it is the first ! however the motif is a sexy beast !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @shettima112

you're right,...the Kurz allows you to have up to 32 layers per voices,..

and the great winners of all time were the EMULATOR from E-mu systems,...with

256 voices,... per program :-),.. each with it's own set of filters, programming stuff where you wanted to,... too bad creative bought E-MU,.. now it's just Sh...

  • Frankly for me the Yamaha Motif ES is far superior. With the expansion boards for the Motif, and Motif ES series, you can have almost endless possibilities.

Yamaha eliminated the expansion boards with this series!

Sorry Yamaha. The Motif ES is King not this watered down verison.

  • @MrTerrificII I had 4 of the expansion series boards but was never particularly wowed by any of them.

  • Don't bother with this keyboard, its sequencer is far too difficult to program.

Get a Korg Radias or better still Korg Electribe sx

  • @xesionprince ur too funny man! A Radius or electribe are only synths, not full blown workstations! So definately don't buy a sliceif you need the whole apple bro!

  • I've had this keyboard about 6 months and I haven't been able to produce anything decent with it! Why is it that the Korg Electribe and Korg Radias is so much better. People only use the Motif for funk, blues and shit like that. I want to produce dance/techno - proper music!

  • lol

Sounds like you've got your heads stuck in the sand :)

  • @xesionprince what the hell is your problem pal

  • when u complitly update xs, than is hammer keyboard...if u used it with cubase, or much easier with frutyloops, then is really hammer!!

  • that's a bad ass beat!

  • I think it actually is the song, this dude is nice he doesnt look like all the other boring demos where you can see clearly that they get paid for it or they just want to show u how skilled theya re,this was brief and to the point

  • LOL! 2:10

  • Motif XS8 or Kurzweil PC3X? Suggestions?

  • Motif.

  • Probably Motif. I own the Kurzweil and going to switch to the motif since the kurzweil has many software problems. And this is my seccond in two months. The first broke down after one day.

  • motif---kurz looks really good on paper, but in use idk--something just doesnt click for me--plus it has this annoying thing where the volume output is really low thus it requires a pramp..and if the preamp isnt a good (expensive) one, then it degrades the quality of the sound....not to mention the fact that the interface is an absolute nightmare---im sure u can get some really good things out of it tho..

motif does what its supposed to do, very well, and at a very high level of quality...

  • I tried Roland, Korg, Yamaha and finally I got a Kurzweil

  • korg triton was the first keyboard to layer 8 sounds.

  • I have the XS8..no other keyboard has the quality sounds like the motif..its blows fantom outa the water!

  • kill yoself

  • well its over for the xs now cause there is a new boy on the block and its called the Fantom G

  • I have both the XS and Fantom G, the fantom g actually has LESS sounds than the fantom X

  • i've tried both and the Fantom G sounds (specially the acoustics) are not as half as good as the XS

  • @Denvermorgan2000 piano sound on rolands are too bass heavy so no thanks i'll just stick with the happy median which allows me to produce good pianos with no bassy sounding piano, it'd be great if we needed powerful bassy piano but well yamaha allows bass in the right spots and the treble sounds as it's supposed to while roland you can tell just sound way to thick , try it in a rock band. that'd be rolands best bet.

  • That was sweet.....he loves music and laying down the grooves. Fun to watch.

  • KJEboys, just bought one of these beauties so will have a better idea this time next week :-) however, Patterns ARE Yamaha's way of styles ie. drum patterns, arps ..etc

From what I know, this beast is LOADED to the rim with patterns of all kinds so definitely looking forward to getting my hands on it

  • PSR and Tyros have styles....with accompaniment..

XS has styles/patterns but with preset arps...?

Is it possible to create your own styles/patterns just like the arrangers?

  • I understand Motif XS is a workstation..but I'm confused about the "patterns" or pattern mode.

one of the guys that post here said there are NO STYLES on MOTIF XS....but they have patterns? Aren't patterns the same as styles? Can someone please clarify...

Solton/Ketron call their styles - PATTERNS. By "styles" I mean...just like preset styles on PSR and Tyros arrangers..that have accompaniments

  • patterns = styles = accompaniments

  • I wonder is the semi weighted keys a neccessary. I was looking into purchase the xs8 this week I need to know I play as well but 88 keys isnt a must Im not doing a show or live...

  • no, semi-weighted arent necessary. Trust me they REALLY aren't , unless you are a pianist, but still they are not necessary at all

  • Not necessary? Unless you get a weighted keyboard and realize the greater control you have in most cases and then you won't settle for anything different except as in the role of an auxiliary keyboard.

Right now the Motif XS 88 RULES. I use this jewel LIVE in the performance mode much of the time and it's absolutely fantastic as it FOLLOWS ME and I'm not trapped into a track that can really get boring.

  • does anybody know who is that dude? is he some known pro?

  • it would be cool if it had fl studio or cubase installed in it

  • @Paxadzor Actually it's comes with it in the package(cubase Ai4) specially designed for motif.

  • Why is it that everyone that makes a song on the Motif they gotta hit the play and stop buttons super fast and hard? Is that a motif trend or something?

  • LOL! I noticed that too.....

  • It's the mediocre interface unfortunately. Yamaha forces the user to navigate such a clumsy mess that keyboardists are often in a rush and pound the Play, Stop, and other buttons. It's a Yamaha thing. If you haven't experienced the Motif and and Yamaha designs, you won't understand.

  • @Dadee3 haha i notice that.... i think yamaha keyboards provide so much inspiration that your hands cant keep up with the speed of your brain.

i do it with my psr. its a yamaha thing

  • i wish i had that keybord but i have th yamaha ypt-40 the 61 key

  • i liked that bass :)

  • This is by far the best keyboard in the market! Fantom G is like a hot girl with no brains....Korg M3 is like a hot girl with average brain...XS is a hot sexy girl with a really+highly intelligent brain!!!

  • So, what can you tell for Korg Oasys?

What kind of girl is that keyboard?

    Hahaha....

  • The Oasys is Ivana Trump.

  • The OASYS is like Paris Hilton -- all cost and no brains.

  • @TomZentra

    hahahahahhaahahahaha

  • @livbit i love you for that one buddy!!!

  • @livbit That is 100% true. I'm getting one of those XS8s i tried out the XF too so i'm going to say it does sound a little better and has more features but if i had the xs already i'd probably stay with the XS.

  • haha, not alot of people who will purchase this model are going to take advantage of most of the features on this amazing keyboard. yet, when the next model comes out they will be quick to wanna ditch this model for the next big thing.

  • Truth!

  • My home studio is the Motif xs7, the prophtet 08', the Roland V-Sinth GT and a SPDS drum pad/sampler. I dont need anything else. what do you think?

  • dude ... I am jealous!

  • wtf!

i'm saving up for an xs8!

    luckyy..

    =[

  • I got this keyboard! but its soo much to do on it im lost. its my first pro board and i was wonderin if nebody knew how to layer different sounds on top of original sounds..?? ne help

  • this guy is having too much fun.

  • can the motif xs editor be used in FL Studio or is it only for cubase????????

  • motif xs sounds thin compared to the classic motif (which sounded very warm and fat). over at motifator, yamaha specialists say this is because in xs, a lot of good master effects like compressor are turned off...lol..wtf!

  • lol so which 1 u recommend i want 1 but cant choose between xs or motif 6

  • i keep forgettin' , im not in love anymore!

i keep forgettin' things will never be the same again! (michael macdonald) he does use a motif though. right on.

  • my friend has that board....i jus got the fantom x-8 yesterday nite...i love it

  • I still want the fantom g

  • me too! But I already have one on pre-order! so HA! lol

  • is it better than xs?

  • its all about yamahaMotif>>korg is completally behind..they got to get back to formula in order to compete with yamaha

  • Ditto. I have the Triton Pro X and as great as the Triton was, it does not hold up to the Motif XS8. I'm holding on to both since the resale of the Triton plummetted to about $800-$900 ... OUCH !

  • what about the korg m3 anybody know about that?

  • its shit compared to this

  • I personally like the triton Extreme better than the M3, but I know you can do a shit load on the M3 too, I have played this board and its nice, takes time getting use to figuring it out but its nice. I know on the M3 though u can layer 16 programs which is nice.

  • The korg m3 is very techno based, there isnt so many rhodes, vintage bass sounds and more. Damn. i wish i had a yamaha motif - omg

  • good vid

  • one thing I cant stand is a repatishous beat with no fillins ...where are the filling in the drums?

  • One thing i can't stand is songs with fill-ins every 2 bars, because the producer cant come up with enough musically, so they over saturate w/ drums to compensate. you sound like one of them. this guy is good, you dont know shit. he only played a few bars anyways, how often do you add drum fill-ins? i like music not drums all over my songs. the drums are only there to keep the musicians in time anyway.

  • THE BATTLE OF THE WORKSTATIONS, I LOVE IT. Man, at the end of the day it's all about personal preference. lol

  • tru that

  • Hi, I haven't been dealing with pro audio for about 8 years. I need a versatile keyboard/sampler for live work as a stand alone sound source. When I say versatile I mean from MOR to contemporary dance/pop.

Motif XS does look like it's got all the right stuff, I am just not sure whether its sounds are up to par, I always thought Korg's sounds are more phat and Yamaha's are a tad thinish, not enough body. Not mentioning Kurzweil (different price range).

  • i think its the other way around. korgs sound is thin, motif has a wider sound imo.

  • @videoeditors synth wise but not real instrument wise. korgs very bleh on real instrument sounds.

  • lol unseat the Triton ,,eeeeerrr i dont think so lol

  • I have both and I will take the new motif any day if I could only keep one.

  • I got the tyros2, im on video playing it. but im wanting one of these.... :D

  • damn i want to trade my fantom x6 for a motif xs 6

  • Trade? I'm never going to trade my Triton extreme for anything. I am going to buy the fantom x6 next though and after that the motif xs 6 :) Why would you trade anything :p

    The more the merrier people!

  • im behind.. i gotta mo6 but im poor tryna get one of these...lol

  • how do you like the mo6? i just bought one... waiting for it to get shipped

  • man I want one of these things

  • i got xs6

  • I own the OASYS and the Motif Xs8 and the motif is more producer friendly. You can toggle between patters unlike the OASYS. The OASYS is more for composers and movie scorers but i like them both they both have there own strengths.

  • u got both really? what about the sounds quality? which one has better sounds? - I already been with the xs6 several times, dunno the oasys though...

  • pretty cool... just one question though... once you have your song ready, is it possible to record while adjusting volume/effects at the same time? basically, i'm wondering how you get your final product with effects/arpegios and everything added?

  • badass, now I want a MOTIF

  • Clavia Nord Stage is the shit!

  • fuckin sick bass line in the sequence

  • #1 Korg Oasys (too expensive and not enough sounds for the prices but still top #1), #2 Motif xs (best sound and function in this price class )!

  • would u stop sacking on dat keyboard!!! damn

  • I have this gut feeling that Roland is going to come out with another Fantom that will shut down every keyboard on the market...from the es to the xs to the oasys!!!

  • nah, i don't think so. by the way, do you know the name of the roland model your talking about, the fantom what?

  • FantomX 6, 7, 8

  • I like my self-programmed Trinity Pro V3 MUCH better. Why pay big money for some expensive keyboard marketed to imitate "realistic!" guitars, saxophone, rhodes, drums, brass, & the like. whats the point? just use the real thing instead of copping out on some cheesy half baked soulless workstation imitation. Better yet get a real guitarist, bassist, drummer, create your own voice on keyboard rather than merely imitating already-established musical instruments with someone else's presets

  • @rg2027x sometimes that's just not physically possible because you can't find people to do that especially one's you trust, I know because that's the situation i'm in , all drummers already have bands or are in too many bands and others are just flat out to themselves.

  • there is no point comparing oasys to motif xs. price tag aside, oasys and xs sound totally different. oasys has the strong softsynth/triton flavor:- very crisp and digital sounding. motif xs sounds much more analog and warm compared to the oasys. i would personally go for the xs over the oasys anyday. i will get a micro-x to get some korg synth sounds similar to the oasys - thats about it.

  • Therefore, the Motif ES series can do MORE than this series! The Motif ES series can also use the breath controller and this series can NOT! With all of the various plug in boards, there are possibly endless sounds that the Motif ES series can produce as opposed to the XS series.

  • I got the feeling you're an Motif ES user who's frustrated because a new version has released...

Don't worry man, more than enough people will be willing to buy your ES on eBay and with that money you can buy the XS for only like 800$ :)

  • The Yamaha Motif XS series does NOT support Yamaha PLG Plug in boards. Taking that into account, you can do a whole lot MORE with the ES series than the XS series. For instance, if you wish to play the sounds from the Yamaha DX series i.e., DX 7 DX7 FIID, you can NOT use them on the XS series!

  • too bad Yamaha didn't include the wonderful F A T UNISON mode capability of the DX7IIFD on the PLG board..nothing like the real thing. Sounds amazing in stereo thru a PA! Still have my IIFD, bought new from clearance sale 10 years ago for $250..lol.. so many excellent, dynamic sounds & deep programmability. real FM is great for layering with other synthesizers

  • Wow! You were very lucky. Talk about being at the right place at the right time! I would love to have a DX7IIFD in mint shape. I keep checking them out on Ebay. I would especially be interested in picking up a Yamaha DX-7 Centennial. Well thanks for the response.

  • man da oasis kills it

  • That's maybe because the Oasys costs 7000€ and this thing 2300€....

Try comparing things that are ment to be compared next time.

  • The JD-990 had eight layers over 10 years ago.

  • forget the damn fantoms

  • the fantom is cool but not like the new motif xs it's the best.

  • gooddddd:=)

  • nice, mine arrives this week. can't wait

  • this keyboards kills the phantom.

  • ES kills the phantom 2, Yamaha is da shight.
