USMC never did count as a special warfare group. We have the best and the toughest training in the world in the regular military forces. Special Forces are something else- like MArines have Recon battalions. We, as Marines, are a department of the US Navy.

Nearly all US, UK, French, German, Canada, and many other spec ops teams are on the same level. If there is any difference in quality then it is extremely small.

Hey who does everybody think is the most underrated special ops team? I think that's just as interesting as who the best is (Even though I think they're all equal).
The British SAS are the founders of ALL modern Special forces! They pioneered the techniques that all other SF developed their own from! The SAS travel the world training other SF, as well as finishing what other SF fail to! There are some excellent SF around the world, with their own specialities and abilities, but none are as flexible or so well cross-trained as the SAS! The only SF that might equal the SAS is the US Navy SEALS! But they are not better!

The U.S. Delta Attachment is most likely the best at hostage rescue and unconventional warefare and The U.S. Green Berets are the best force multiplying group in the world. The Green Berets proved their superiority over all other force multiplying groups in the world when they single handedly sowed destruction in Afghanistan.

And also the USA is seen as the most powerful mainly by Americans but most countries in Europe have better training and equipment which would make a lot of them a worthy opponent for you (I know that war will never occur and I don't mean to cause any offence).

You're looking at training to judge a military's strength when you have to look at much more than that. Who would get air supremacy? USA. Control of the waters? USA. You could argue that those 2 things will pretty much end the war before it starts in most conventional and even some unconventional warfare.

SA80 is a lot smaller (so it's easier to carry), it's barrel length is longer (which I'm sure will help in some aspect), muzzle velocity is higher,

SA80 - 450 M with iron sights, 650 M with standard issue SUSAT sight, 850 M for the L86 LSW.
M4 - 500 M for point target, 600 M for area target.
@M4ttM3224 SA80 is 900mm,785mm, and 709mm. M4 is 838mm fully extended, and 757mm collapsed. M4 is lighter. It's not like the M4 is unreliable. Many things have changed in m16 style weapons since Vietnam. It's used by many different countries.

Even in Vietnam US special ops were using shortened versions of the m16. They were almost like prototypes to the m4. SAS have been using the m4 for many years. Using a Mp5 in long distance firefights is illogical. Which is why they don't use one gun. M16/M4 have been around much longer.

The daddy of all Special Forces Units in the world is the SAS. That being said, the most elite SFU in the world is not even part of a military. It is the CIA's Special Activities Division. They recruit from Navy DEVGRU and Delta Force which along with the SAS make up the three most elite SFU's in the world. These people are veteran soldiers with the best skills and are taught espionage, sabotage, etc. by the CIA. These people are the most badass of the badasses.

@viriato1313 Storm Troopers wern't Special Forces, they were Light Infrantry of World War 2 Nazi Germany, Storm Troopers were the first Airborne Troops in the world, the first ever Parachute Regiment, however they didn't specialise as much as what the Special Air Service did. & also Nazi Germany were the first ever people to make Stealth Planes that dont get reginised under Radar at a certain atlitude, when they tried to get over the English Channel to attack Britain near the end of the war.

The British SAS are the founders of ALL modern Special forces! They pioneered the techniques that all other SF developed their own from! The SAS travel the world training other SF, as well as finishing what other SF fail to! There are some excellent SF around the world, with their own specialities and abilities, but none are as flexible or so well cross-trained as the SAS! The only SF that might equal the SAS is the US Navy SEALS! But they are not better!

The U.S. Delta Attachment is most likely the best at hostage rescue and unconventional warefare and The U.S. Green Berets are the best force multiplying group in the world. The Green Berets proved their superiority over all other force multiplying groups in the world when they single handedly sowed destruction in Afghanistan.

They are far more flexible than most other special forces, and continue to cross train with other SF around the world! Thus far, the SAS has no defeats to it's name, though there was embarressment in the first Gulf War with Bravo 2 Zero! Generally speaking, the SAS is in the top 2 or 3 of the world's SF, if not number 1! We started, others followed!

You're looking at training to judge a military's strength when you have to look at much more than that. Who would get air supremacy? USA. Control of the waters? USA. You could argue that those 2 things will pretty much end the war before it starts in most conventional and even some unconventional warfare.

The US Air Force is the largest and most advanced. Our pilots are some of the best trained. UK has 232 Eurofighters. USA has 168 F22(I think), add that with our f16,f15, f18 (which outnumber your jets). You're just mentioning tiny details. You're trying to judge air supremacy on one model of plane you have.

These #'s are from 2008 so pretty recent. That's about 7:1 US:UK. On top of that more and better tech. Those are the facts. No way around it.

The only spec's I can find that have facts for both (UK and USA) Aircraft Carriers are speed, length, draught and beam and regarding all of those yours are only slightly ahead of us. SA80 is a lot smaller (so it's easier to carry), it's barrel length is longer (which I'm sure will help in some aspect), muzzle velocity is higher,

We don't only have the QE Class; we have 2 new QE Class and 3 Invincible Class Aircraft Carriers and we will probably get more soon. I didn't say it would be an easy shot but for a British soldier it wouldn't be that difficult. Even if you can't agree that the Eurofighter is better than whatever you have at the moment then there is a new jet being made (can't remember the name) that both of our Air Forces are getting.

Regarding range:
SA80 - 450 M with iron sights, 650 M with standard issue SUSAT sight, 850 M for the L86 LSW.
M4 - 500 M for point target, 600 M for area target.

@M4ttM3224 SA80 is 900mm,785mm, and 709mm. M4 is 838mm fully extended, and 757mm collapsed. M4 is lighter. It's not like the M4 is unreliable. Many things have changed in m16 style weapons since Vietnam. It's used by many different countries.

@M4ttM3224 I am not suggesting that. I am stating that we have more and better aircraft carriers than you. 11 N class vs 2 QE and 3 Invincible class. So 11 of the better ones vs 5 worse ones. Again many consider the m4 a superior weapon. SAS even uses it. The m16/m4 has been in more conflicts and in use longer and you can argue it has been even more perfected. So air power goes to US. Water power goes to US. You could easily argue ground control goes to US also. We would win. We have higher rof.

@jlaz1113 The SAS use MP5's not M4's. How can the M4 have been in use longer when it was first produced around 1994 and the SA80 has been in use by the British Army for at least 20 years (I would give exact dates but I can't get onto Wiki at the moment).

@M4ttM3224 The SAS use a variety of weapons. Including the m4. I said m16/m4 have been used longer than the SA80. M4 is just shorter version of m16. So yes they have been used longer. Even in Vietnam US special ops were using shortened versions of the m16. They were almost like prototypes to the m4. SAS have been using the m4 for many years. Using a Mp5 in long distance firefights is illogical. Which is why they don't use one gun. M16/M4 have been around much longer.

@twinytwo M4ttM3224 is the one who disagrees with you. I'm trying to explain to them how it takes much more than training to be a powerful military. They will probably just continue to disagree, but whatever. It's almost as if whenever I explain it they just keep coming up with random things that are either untrue or just opinions. I don't see how having a better rifle (in his opinion. Not a fact) will somehow make up for a less powerful navy and air force. Oh well.

@jlaz1113 The M16 is older. We don't just have them 5 ships in the Royal Navy; we also have Destroyers and many others. Yes the SAS do use M4/M16's but I imagine very rarely (they will probably use MP5's and SA80's mainly). The training and tactics of the UK Military are the best in the world so that will make up for our inferior numbers.

@M4ttM3224 The US navy is still bigger and more technologically advanced. SAS use m4 more than you think. Just like many special operations groups. They only will use mp5 in a cqb or similar situation. M4 is a better all around gun than mp5. You are now just trying to convince yourself. These numbers and technology are to great for training to make up for. Again you haven't proven anything. Air power:US. Water control:US. That right there can win a war. Training can't make up for those 2 things.

Lets be clear folks and only battle tested units count ,snipers are their own group Canadians for over a hundred years have been considered excellent shots.(and the first official SF unit was the Royal Marine commando's and 42 would be considered TIER 2 SF)
TIER 1 SF are. OD.DELTA, 22 SAS , SBS , NZ SAS, AUS SAS , and CANADIAN SF.
Some of the SEAL TEAMS (not all)
TIER 2. Foreign Legion , Marine Recon ,Para Pathfinder Reg., 42 Commando, Grom German SF and Dutch. The rest is lip service

You don't think that with our countries being so close to each other in relations that we don't help train each other? I admire the SAS my dad spent alot of time training with them. He taught them how to do certain things and they helped teach his team certain techniques. So in other words unless you are in the Regiment or are apart of Delta Keep your mouth shut.

The daddy of all Special Forces Units in the world is the SAS. That being said, the most elite SFU in the world is not even part of a military. It is the CIA's Special Activities Division. They recruit from Navy DEVGRU and Delta Force which along with the SAS make up the three most elite SFU's in the world. These people are veteran soldiers with the best skills and are taught espionage, sabotage, etc. by the CIA. These people are the most badass of the badasses.
