@brightbite I think music nowadays has pleanty emotion as far as the synth goes, but i do think the vocals are totaly boring and repitive. Its almost always the same, and when it does sound decent, its just a sample from old songs.
I agree with the above comment about synth sounds. Everything now sucks and is boring, nothing stands out or the feeling. Its over complicated. glad I am not alone...I am sure music is more than listening for you, its something that opens up more than what is on the surface.Thats the best way I can put it in worrds.
@brightbite I agree .. a lot of the virtual analog stuff that is out there has no character. Even the new Roland Jupiter-80 has 'piano' samples. And why??
@redmartian Perhaps because it is all about being as lazy as possible when writing and producing a song? It also all seems to be about the money these days. People tend to think of the '80s as style without substance. I disagree. There was a lot of creativity in music then.
@brightbite Yes indeed! It's like the 50's when Elvis and all those artist came out... new sound, new music (good music too). I mean that's when Michael Jackson became a legend! :D
I am so thankful, Cherry Red Records released a remastered CD version of the album »The Anvil« accompanying almost all 12" Versions from that period. I dearly wish, Polydor/Universal would dare to release their debut record in expanded and remastered form. Visage have the label »classic« stamped all over their name. And that's just how they should be treated.
Best of the 80s! Visage... one of my fav bands. This song is by FAR an amazingly brill song and one of the best songs to come from the 80s :) Love Stevey in this too! Looks great as always. This is mine and my bf's song cos we both love this band. Dont ask why its a love song to us tho hahaha! Just reminds me of when we got together :)
I discovered this CD in an old stack of albums that my mom accumulated over the years. She got this from an old gay friend of hers, and it rules. "Fade To Grey" is another Visage track worth mentioning.
One question , where are they from? French,English..?? Ok, does anyone can find a best forgotten song? This video cannot match better the meaning and the mystery the song has, it´s a real shame that the 80´s monopolize this sounds and no one seems to be able to reproduce it again. Why the 80´s were so romantic? Sometimes, I cannot explain it
steve Strange was a bit of a social butterfly & clothes Horse.
Fade to Grey, the biggets hit, was written by Midge Ure (Ultravox).last time I heard, SS was living in abedsit in wales. So to answer the question, they're British.
the 80s were energetic, original, full of experimental efforts to create new music - with the full risk of a failure. but most of the music worked, found its niche and in that that niche its fans. these fans still love their music from whay back when, cos that shit from today is too commercial!
and this applies for nearly all what is going on nowadays - money rules, the end justifies the means...
the spirit of the 80s is not asked for any longer - but it is still alive!
Every musical style ever has had someone say "it was better back in the day". Check out CutCopy. They're a great current band who do the 80s sound fantastically.
yexey is right , there are some great bands out there today like cut copy , crystal castles , MGMT , Digitalism..... u just have to search that little bit harder for them than u did in the 80's !!!
I have this early 82 hit on 12" single. The synth appregator (pulse) still sounds great with that ghostly backing music. Night train was next and the last proper hit I remember. Don't remember Pleasure Boy's,
Your right mate even though the 70,s stuff was pretty good but for me the 80's up to about 1985 was such a top time for music and we had a bit of style to.
The 80's were the best time musicaly I think, Steve Strange was such a leader in the New Romantic period he was certainly the one with the most class, this track is excellent, was nice to see him on TV recently and still very stylish!
in the 8o's the problem was mainly putting the soul back into the synthesizer, this song was a good attempt at that + eerie 'drifting off with the angels' 'interlude' at 2:50-3:03 really caps off the 'soulness' of this song.....
Spring of '82 - me 16 years old and the first of my friends to have cable, and thus MTV. Still a damn fine three and three quarter minutes of time to spend with my fave Blitz Kids.
Hi great NEW Romantic Androids one!!!!Are you in synths again???No the Damned don't cry!Never never die....That was then, that's again today...Bye Steve Strange...you're in this mad world I Know that...I was an your adept!
These kind of music don't fade, you are all right...arrangements and compositions are far from what the music of today...they sing!!!!They are not mad as much as some do!!!They are happy..I think!
Yes, this Visage album is better: The Anvil... I never found it on CD ever -- every song on it killer...... my fave was a non single track "Look What They've done to me"
In Los Angeles there are a ton of clubs that play classic and modern new wave. My favorite is Blue Mondays. They even have old Atari 2600s you can play with.
This brings a tear to my eyes. The 80's were the best decade and Visage were one of the best groups of the early years. Dancing to this at the under 18's disco...halcyon days!
Visage is the one of rarest find in the new romantic/wave sound during the 80's. I can't believe I can re-live the sound and mood again from that era!
I really like this clip, All of the Visage's music, it's soothing for my mind. Wish they would bring back the eighties...it's over, but not in my heart.
Being brought up on all this weird shit was class! I remember the hair spray days!I have indulged in lifes wonders because of the influence of the likes of Visage.I am now just a normal funk DJ Dad!
Thanks for uploading - my favourite Visage track too (along with Pleasure Boys). Still sounds good after all these years. Had a crush on Stevie-Boy at that time (yikes!) but I was only about 13 so didn't know any better... :0(
More than a hint of Midge Ure in this. A taste of what was to come from Ultravox. Excellent track which sits up there with Night Train and Fade To Grey, which believe it or not is my 5 year old's favorite track of the moment! Must try and get some vid of here doing her dance and singing.
Classic 'Peacock Punk Rock' track as it was known! Hairspray by the truckload and as many colours as possible were the trend! Post New Romantic forerunner and unsurpassable! Pity drugs ruined Stevo - waste of talent but still a masterpiece of the 3/4 minute hit scene!
What the 80's are all about. One of Visage's best tracks, a wonderful sublime and mysterious effort. Fade To Grey cannot be touched, but this is a fantastic track that deserves recognition.
Yesss I am LOVING this video. It's beauty cannot be disputed... Wow. Thanks for sharing this awesome 80's artifact of sound and visual beauty. Incredible
Sort of, if I remember it right. It was a Steve Strange project, with friends. But I can't help feeling, that it in reality is Midge who is in control. As I Remenber it Steve Strange's claim to fame at this point in history was a night club in Camden, Camden Palace, or something. Correct me if I'm wrong.
WBA is right, the club was the Camden Palace. Before that Steve Strange and Rusty Egan, Visage's drummer, ran a club called the Blitz, from which originated the title Blitz Kids.
I'm sure the original quality was the same.thankyou very much for sharing.(Good to see that they got to use so much of that footage in the subsequent Night Train video - incidentally one of my real favourite 12 inch remixes.Damned don't cry was an exciting change of direction, since it heralded the arrival of The Anvil.Doesn't mean that Fade to Grey and Mind of Toy are not still classics though.I agree with the sad part - Steve never really achieved happiness.
Visage has always been one of my favorite bands and i must say that i lkie the second album better than the first one. The quality is o.k. and for those who want to see it in a better quality, there has just been a dvd release of all the visage video's. Its the same as the video release way back in the 80's
it is quite sad in a way i think it might say a little something about how lonely steve felt with all the hangers on's etc...great stuff thanx a lot...
@brightbite I think music nowadays has pleanty emotion as far as the synth goes, but i do think the vocals are totaly boring and repitive. Its almost always the same, and when it does sound decent, its just a sample from old songs.

Damned Don't Cry is like drowning in a pool of beauty, mystery and such a sad yet so immaculate place.
Damned Don't Cry should have been just as popular as Fade To Grey. THis track m akes me so emotional and mystical.
Wonderful, Wonderful and more Wonderful...
The 12",,, version of this is just totally CLASSIQUE ***** + *****

Brilliant 80's track. The Anvil album is fantastic. Year 2525 is a classic tune.
