im having regular 8.6 strong bavaria, its 7.9% but it isnt a malt liqour like yours, and fuck its probably one of the worst beer i have tried, but it gets you very buzzed and its cheap. kind of worth it in my opinion if you can take the taste
Never heard of the beer but the label alone says malt liquor. You say you didn't smell adjuncts but the way you described the aroma and flavor says there is a lot of corn. Think about it. tastes like a soft drink, soft drinks are sweetened with corn syrup, corn syrup is made from corn. I pick up that you're taking sweet and malty as the same. What you just tasted is sweet. Now compare that to the taste of malt extract. The extract is sweet but chewy.
@yartp I actually read up on it, and if the site was truthful, it said it conformed to the Bavarian purity law of 1516, so there is no corn in it. It is sweet because there isn't enough hops to balance out the malt sweetness.
@PeiHomeBrewer I just found the typical, ambiguous description used for cheap beer. "No artificial colours or flavours. Just all natural high quality ingredients and a great deal of know how." Never found any mention that it was Reinheitsgebot compliant.
@yartp You could very well be right. I can't even find the source where I found that information. They could have justbeen blowing smoke. If they did use corn syrup and not actual corn, that could explain why I couldn't smell or taste corn.
This new YouTube blows dead donkies. That beer you had must have been made at YouTube! LOL! Anyways I have a great selection here at our LCBO compared to the warehouse they are calling a liqour store there! I will just have to mail you some good beers to taste test from this side of the tracks! LOL! I picked up a wheat beer from Germany last weekend, and two different types of Polish beers. Not too sure I liked the wheat beer! PM inbound PEI! Cheers!
never liked anything i had from them. thanks for doing this review (even though you had to suffer for it) because that is exactly the crap i would want to stay away from and i am well warned now.
i have yet to try the red style beers because i'm living under a rock i guess...but i'm ready to give it a try but not this one.
seems we have to drink about 9 bad beers to find a good one, but that's how it often goes.
@nonstop000ricochet There is a whole bunch of other beers from them I have yet to try, but now I am a little reluctant. I'd rather just try the other beers there that I know are at least drinkable.
@PeiHomeBrewer Ive had when I was younger. They were cheaper, had (to me) a more maltier "thicker" texture, and tend to have higher alcohol content than regular brews . I do recall the payback the next day with a big headache....dont' know if it has changed...haven't drank one in decades
@ACTeslaMachineDC i've had lots of malt liquors before i started drinking good beer. actually, malt liquor (some) can be quite hoppy at first but then there is that awful sweet taste and often full of adjuncts and that helps them to taste like crap.
this beer might not be far off though with that sick sweet taste if it had adjuncts. had some beers that tasted more like sick, cherry-ish cough medicine than beer.
Thanks for the shout out! :-) Sorry to hear that brew was crap--I can't do sweet beers at all either. I've only come across a couple that sound similar to this one, and I couldn't even finish them. Hopefully you washed that one down with a good homebrew! Cheers!

@terpsichoreankid No problem. I have 93 subs at the moment, hope some of those guys head your way. I actually did finish it, with difficulty.
I had 2 kit brews to wash the taste of that 'all grain masterpiece' out of my mouth.
