  • Dude you look like your in some industrial band (not an insult or a joke. You look like you could of fit in the 80's wax trax scene near perfectly (ministry, skinny puppy,revco,etc....). Ok i made enough comments on this page, sorry for blowing your comment section up (i forgot i left a comment 2 months ago)

  • How Ram holds up with me:

-Ram is my favorite album of the 70's

-Ram is by far the best beatles related album (and just incase i didn't say that right, that includes all the beatles albums)

-Ram is the most sonically inclined album i ever heard

-Ram is included in my top 20 fav albums of all time

-Ram and Paul in general is probably responsible for inspiring my fav bands like phish,ween,etc...

P.S.If anybody wants to tell me how Ram holds up in their book i would be happy to hear it :-)

  • Dude, the album was incredibly different and ahead of its time THATS why it was panned. Plus people wanted lennon's depressing, egotistical, and hyprocritical shit instead. Its funny the only lennon solo album i like is the one where he tries to mimick paul and thats only a 3 star affair (W&B). I wish more people knew how sonically inclined this album is, the use of vocals as instruments, the pure atmospheric playing w/more then a touch of the organic and etc...... etc....

  • Worth noting is that Ram was crafted so slickly, in part, in response to the underwhelming critical response to the stripped-down sound of McCartney.

The "ram on" thing, I think, is a metaphor for persistence, work, carrying on.

Thanks for the video--you were not as succinct as you might have been, and I slightly prefer Band on the Run and Plastic Ono Band, but I agree Ram is definitely one of the finest solo Beatles albums.

  • my favorite paul album for sure.

  • Best album of the 70's = Yes Indeed (honorable mentions in the classic rock/pop genre of the 70's...........Elton John - Captain Fantastic, Genesis - Trick of the Tail, Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here (Fuck Darkside, that overated decent at best album. AN Album of Textures ewwwwww, Ram is sonically better then Darkside in everyway).

Best Album of All Time = No (best beatles related album though,by far)

Top 20 album of All Time= Yes (but barely)

Worthless comments by me = Yes (who cares)

  • I agree with you. Ram has always been on of my favorites. Underrated unfairly

  • Dear Mad, Or may I call you Hat? You are completely wrong. George Harrington had a bunch of great songs he was sitting on because Paul, and John were the cash cow for EMI. So the "running" I just don't see at all. You could actually cobble together a decent Beatles album ala the "White Album" from all the 1971 releases, and "RINGO". Photograph another Harrisong Brilliant. I love you but you are wrong and I am right in everything I say!!! Because I am the sole voice of what is right... :P :)

  • The early post-Beatles Beatles are awesome. It's like they all shot out in four different directions and tried to run away from each other as fast as their legs could carry them. But eventually, they got tired ('bout 1973 or so). "Ram" from Paul and "All Things Must Pass" from George are my two favorite ex-Beatle albums with "McCartney" next in line.

  • hi, nice video but i don't understand which part of this was supposed to offend, or blow my mind. I was hoping for a nutty conspiracy theory. I agree though that RAM is a very under rated album. Maybe it was supposed to blow my mind how it can take someone 9 minutes 54 seconds to express that opinion?

  • @leoleoleoleo A loser says what?

  • fFom what I read in books, it sounded like at the time Paul was pinned by everyone as being the one breaking up the beatles - which wasn't the case, but the album is a great album nonetheless.

I'm just wondering, but do you like John's solo work at all? I really love his first two solo albums (Plastic Ono Band and Imagine) and his last one, Double Fantasy.

  • @JeffZHigs1 Hey Jeff, in answer of your query: yes I do like Mr. Lennon's solo work quite a bit. It just makes me sad to hear the trauma reproduced sans filter. He used to try to entertain with his music, Then it became more of a performance art thing. I think he had moments of brilliance. It was almost like the music he was making was psychic poop. Like the leftovers after a big delicious meal. I don't know. I just think that his heart wasn't totally in it.

  • Greatest Ever? No. Great album? Sure. Macca's best record? Maybe.

  • Not the greatest post Beatles, but RAM is better than many of Beatles' albuns too, it shows who was the real genius of the Beatles.

  • i agree this is the best album ever! LOL.

  • My FAVORITE Paul album, and possibly my favorite album of all time! The funny thing is, I fell in love with the Beatles initially because of John. I like most of his Beatles's compositions better (earlier stuff), but to me, Paul's solo work is the greatest. But seriously, you don't get the song Ram On?...Ram On = Ramon = Paul's stage name for awhile in the early Beatles days. "Ram on (Ramon), give your heart to somebody soon, right away."

  • This was incredibly stupid.

  • @marvy1118 You are incredibly stupid for watching it and then commenting on it. Your flame was weak. You must be a girl. or not very bright. You could look up a really good flame and save it then paste it into this and you would sound smart. I would say: "Your video lacked any sort of coherent thought. McCartney is so dated and irrelevant. You should listen to" (insert what you think would not be stupid here). "Your sense of humor is non detectible".(See that would be subtle but insulting)

  • are you sure that paul mcartney isn't a total satanist?

  • @astrodaise1 Hmm. he may be? do you have first hand knowledge? That would be interesting..... and would explain alot.

  • @Refounders2010

and also the fact that out of the all the songs on that album that were covered, Monkberry moon delight was covered by two great warlock/;sanatnic artists screaming jay hawkins and exuma. go check that shit out. monkberry moon delight one of the greatest songs written by a beatle but those two freaks pick up on it WQITHIN A YEAR ndf both cover it. bercause that song is a satanic chant

  • and also the fact that out of the all the songs on that album that were covered, Monkberry moon delight was covered by two great warlock/;sanatnic artists screaming jay hawkins and exuma. go check that shit out. monkberry moon delight one of the greatest songs written by a beatle but those two freaks pick up on it WQITHIN A YEAR ndf both cover it. bercause that song is a satanic chant

  • The mix of the album is also a reason why I think it is one of the best in the day...

  • @skyprop Props to you!! I agree. Hard to believe it was recorded at the Record plant in New York~! There is such consistency in Paul's and the Beatles recordings.

  • RAM Is No Doubt a BAD ASS Album along with Band On the Run the two best albums of Wings!!! At least my two favorite Albums!

  • I am sorry if you took what I said as derogatory. I really did not mean it to be and I do think your analysis was very sound and to the point.

  • Agreed. Ram is completely underrated, and along with All Things Must Pass, the best post-Beatles solo album. Much better than any Lennon album, because as personal as the lyrics may be, Plastic Ono Band has its dragging moments.

  • @clockworkfiction3 Dude. I am floored. That has to be one of the most cogent, well thought out, and concise evaluations i have ever heard/seen. Cudos to you my friend!

  • @Refounders2010

Thanks for the smart ass comment!

  • @clockworkfiction3 It actually was quite heartfelt.. I really agree with your assessment! :) I was not being smart assed, If I were it would have sounded more like"Hey jerkoff, you wouldnt know your ass from a hole in the ground. Leif Garret had more of a grasp on cogent thought when he was in rehab for sucking ass". You know something of that sort. I really meant it as a complement! I have been in journalism in some for for about 20 years. :) Peace man!!

  • I have to agree. RAM has always been my favorite post Beatles solo album!

  • I have to agree.Ram has always been my favorite post Beatles solo album.

  • What are critics? Writers.

What do writers love, respect and understand the most? Words.

What is Lennon's Plastic Ono Band about? Words.

What is Ram about? Melodies, earcandy, songwriting.

What is Led Zeppelin not about? Words.

What two Superstars were totally panned by the critics? Zeppelin and McCartney.

Who do critics love? Dylan, Lennon, Costello, Townshend etc etc.

    Why?

    Get my drift?

  • @mercysound Mercysound you are my kind of guy. You are brilliant! If we were a aircraft crashed soccer team stuck in the alps, I would eat you last! LOL. I agree that most lyricist are just Philosophers with no moral underpinning and haven't a clue what they are trying to say or why. I understand where you are coming from and couldn't agree with you more!

  • Ram is the polar opposite of John Lennon's post Beatles writing…John was giving the public and himself words so deep and powerful and bare. John's music behind the lyrics was bare minimal blues based compositions and ballads mostly at this time. The music seems so secondary in the Plastic Ono Band.

  • Paul is almost mocking the idea of lyric writing on Ram. It's sillier (more cleverly abstract?) than even the Beatles songs which were very silly for the most part, lyric wise. (If I want words, I'll listen to Dylan anyway, thank you…) Rock writers are musicians and songwriters FISRT, lyricist second thank God. Ram is an album for music lovers, not lyric lovers. Ram is for us, not critics.

  • Ram is an festival orgasm of music, pure, honest and free. Paul, the most musical of all pop writers in history, was at his peak at this time like Townshend was with Lifehouse (Who's Next) Paul is doing whatever he wanted on Ram and it's all done better than it's ever been done before or since.

  • Paul, music's most talented person in the history of all humanity, is FREE and at his finest here, on RAM.

Hard to admit it's the best album of all time because it's so quirky, but it is BY FAR my most listened to album of all time.

  • @mercysound Why is it hard to admit? Come on man.. It's genius!!! He was just trying to be completely creative and allowing himself to bare his soul to you!! Come on accept it!!!!! ACCEPT THE SOUL OF MC CARTNEY~!!!!!!

  • @Refounders2010

Only a genius could turn that terrible voice of Linda's into the COOLEST backing vocals on any album ever! Crosby and Garfunkel are prettier, but Paul orchestrating LInda on Ram is THE COOLEST EVER.

Ram is a headphone album , so full of playful and creative ear candy it makes Dark side of the Moon look like an empty chocolate wrapper.

  • Paul is the master of stringing totally unrelated song parts together to form a song. The big leap was Abbey Road. Queen need to pay McCartney royalties for the likes of Live and Let Die, Uncle Albert, and the Band on the Run song.

Jimmy Page, my other MVP besides Paul, does this briliantly in his live shows...he goes from one musical idea to another all in the course of a 20 minute piece. Jimmy and Paul write like this...ABABCDEFGA.

  • @mercysound Man you are sining my song... Music is the key... Words just get in the way..

  • my dad has lots of old records of beatles, and mccartney solo albums. I just listened to them on my own, not knowing of the publics view. I liked Mccartney and Ram. Also Imagine is a very cool album.

  • @JeffZHigs1 Jeff!!!! what are we going to do about you? Imagine!!! that album blows!!!!! it has about 2 or 3 songs that are actually listenable.... All he had at this point was Nihlism and rage.. I hate my mom, I hate Paul.. I hate myself.. Blah blah blah.... yuk....

  • @Refounders2010 You are very close minded. You chose what album you prefer, and what ones you hate. I like Ram, but I don't think it's one of his best. John Lennon had some really beautiful songs on Imagine, such as Jealous Guy. I really like Flaming Pie actually, and the A-Side of Back to The Egg. Plus Georges "Cloud Nine" Is a favorite.

  • @JeffZHigs1 Hi Jeff. Yes I am closed minded. I have seen open minded people on the side of the freeway who rode motorcycles without helmets.. Open minded people dont last to long. I like what I like and everything else sucks.

  • So true...This is the best album ever made. All the songs are classics!!!!

  • @brbgal You are a sycophant. Which as everyone knows no one likes!!! what is a sycophant? An elephant with a head cold. How you are typing, only God himself knows! :)

  • For Beatles solo albums I'd go with...John's 1980 material, & "Imagine",& George's "All Things Must Pass" & "Thirty-Three & 1/3" as the best solo works. Right behind them would be John's "Plastic Ono Band", and George's "Brainwashed". After those brilliant works, I'd start putting Paul McCartney's solo works in, and they are very close in quality to those. Start with "Band On The Run", "Flaming Pie", & "Chaos & Creation In The Backyard" for me, then "Ram" in a log jam tie with 5 more Paul.

  • @linclink Band on the Run also blows.. Paul was trying desperately to achieve commercial success. BORing........ See above rant about Imagine.. Imagine the music was good? "All things" was written over 10 years... Great album but come on...How personal was it? "Flaming Pie", & "Chaos & Creation In The Backyard" for me, Yes.. you have me there...Hmmm. interesting point. Ringo actually was a more personal and successful album than any of the aforementioned.... I have to give you props.

  • @Refounders2010 You`re dead right. "Ram" is a fantastic album. "Band on the run" has three or four really strong tracks, but fails as an album. "Tug of war" is also a great album.

  • @Yellyist Do you know the whole story behind the making of Band On the Run??? Look it up. If you do it may rise up in your list. Peace.

  • @skyprop Yeah, it was recorded in Nigeria, and two of the members of Wings quit one day before they were supposed to leave for Nigeria, leaving Wings as a trio. There`s a lot of weak songs on "Band on the run" "Mamunia" "No words" "Mrs. Vanderbilt" i don`t think any of them are good songs. But "Band on the run" has three or four really great songs, like the title track and "Jet" "Bluebird" is a gem too. It`s a good album, but it`s not a great album like "Ram"

  • @Yellyist i like all the songs on BOTR! all those you mentioned are amazing songs!

  • I completely agree, Ram is my favourite all time album, by any artist!

  • @PlatformWhimsical You rule. Ram is the best period. There is no more that can be said.

  • i known it ist the best album of mc cartney .i was 18years old

  • the finest post beatles album was made by john lennon and propably is the imagine.

  • @kaisariani you are smoking crack. Best JL LP was Walls and Bridges. Ram was the best post Beatles effort period. Harrison's "All things must Pass" was a compilation of songs written over the previous 10 years that were un-Beatle worthy. So there. and there is no Santa.

  • @Refounders2010 mccartney was a geat musician but john lennon albums were better,i like band of the run better than ram and many other albums better than ram.I didnt really heard the songs of ram but because they didnt made me to want to hear them, mccartney sure made better albums than ram.I AM BIG FAN OF MCCARTNEY

  • what did you say at the beginning when the music was overplaying you and at 2:51 when you played that crowd sound effect? thx

  • @reneperezz I said that he "Paul" was responsible for the more interesting parts of the Beatles records. I was giving the "John" and "George" o'philes equal time booing. :) Sorry Ringo-philes!

  • Ask any casual Paul fan and they'll tell you Band On The Run is his best album. Ask any serious Paul, and they'll tell you Ram is his best album. Why? Because it is. Greater than any beatles album with the exception of sgt pepper

  • amazing album don't know why it isn't regarded as a classic

  • @trevino22 Because of everything I said in the video. Especially the stuff at the begining of the video you couldnt hear over the music...

  • Couldnt agree more. Amazing. Also template for stuff to come from Queen also.

  • Nice! I never thought about the Queen connection! There is speculation that Paul and John were gay!

  • i could not agree more this album has been panned by so many critics as are most of his albums. Hopefully when Sir Paul passes his talent will finally be realized. Ram is fantastic and yes it is a home made album and it is fantastic. It is Raw McCartney Raw Ram. This album is amazing and so underrated please buy this album it will change you it's a dream day with McCartney. Please any music lovers or Beatles fans please get Ram. Than you.

  • This record is really interesting as it was recorded at the Record plant in NYC. This fact drives me nuts because I (Like you) thought it was a homemade deal like the Cherry Bowl. It was actually recorded using some interesting studio cats. The guitarist from the "Lawrence Welk" show actually did some work on this LP. Strange world we live in..

  • RAM is the greatest solo Paul album and amongst the greatest of all albums.

  • That's no fun! You are supposed to tell me how crazy I am!!! :)

    I agree with you!

  • It's not full of catchy pop songs, but instead it shows an artist baring his soul for the world to see. I have never heard another album like it and it still moves me even though I don't agree with all of Lennon's philosphies.

Comparing Ram and John Lennon POB is like comparing apples and oranges. But I guess they would both be my favorites.

Sorry to ramble on so. But you asked. :)

  • I really loved the early John Lennon Songs. Especially the ones that he was writing thinking that he and Paul would make more of a living as professional song writers. Lennon could write a catchy hook when he put his mind to it. He did seem to have a very dark side however?

  • And, if anything, it showed everyone what a real influence George had on the Beatles' overall sound.

I agree with most of what you said about John Lennon's late Beatles period. Politics, drugs and Yoko didn't help his song writing. But I don't think you can slam his pre White Album songs as any less spectacular than McCartney's.

Which bring's me to John Lennon Plastic Ono Band. John's first real solo album. I really like that album and consider it a masterpiece.---->

  • What a coincidence. I just listened to this album yesterday for the first time in a long time. I love it and it's my favorite Paul album too. As for being the best Beatle solo album, I don't know.

I guess it depends on what you're looking for. Ram is a great feel good album musically. Very happy and fun to listen to.

All Things Must Pass could have been a masterpiece if it had been a single album and not so over produced.

  • You are soooooo right.... when i first heard this album which was in March of 2008. a friend sent it to me. I was BLOWN AWAY!!!! I listened to that album almost through the all year... just amazing track after amazing track!!!

Dear Boy, Uncle Albert, Eat At Home, Long Haired Lady are just a few that I will mention. all the songs are incredible and its a shame that as I thought for the past year since I heard it, that its been very ignored. SHAME ON YOU ALL lol. best ALBUM EVER!

  • Hurrah! A kindred soul! The Yellow Album!

  • Yea Man. people just don't know what they are missing. uhh I feel sorry for them and their trash music!!!

  • The Beatles rule.

  • Not even close.

  • Oh Yeah?

  • Too many people for a piece of cake!!

  • Can you imagine if they had made an LP in 1972? LOL Wow. I read a book called "Paperback writer" which author imagines a 1976 reunion LP which ends in disaster.

  • The Beatles a disaster? LOL, it would be the best album ever.

  • You should see if you can find it. It is actually pretty funny. It takes a worst possible case and blows it out of proportion. Eventually resulting in a Beatles disco lp sounding a bit like the Captain and Tennille. Obscure fact: Toni Tennille is actually the female voice on the WALL by Pink FLoyd who is talking about the huge hotel room. ALso Henry McCullogh and Linda McCartney are featured in "Breathe"

  • i think you're the funny one, no way that you seem use to be bored.
