Mr. Bingham, thanks for your example during this past holiday season. Specifically, where you gave money you'd normally spend on gifts for friends and family to the worthwhile cause of helping Parker and his family. Actually, I'd gotten to the point of not celebrating Christ's birth anymore because, to me, it's more of a Roman Catholic thing and I'm not RC. Also, Dec. 25th isn't his real birthday anyway. (1st of a 3-part message, continued in part 2)

Another thing, it's an over-commercialized and basically a secular holiday with more emphasis on imaginary characters like Santee Claws, his elves and the little reindeer. For me, there isn't enough emphasis on Jesus's truly miraculous birth in all that noise. And to many people, this season is just another excuse to party. Anyway, I'm starting to think now that one way a person can honor Christ's birthday, at this time, is by following your example. (2nd part, cont. in part 3)

That is, by earmarking a reasonable amount of money that would have been spent on presents; and sending it instead to a family in need, a good charity or church ministry. I believe this would be more honoring to Christ and you would, in a sense, be giving to him. Where he said, that if you give of your time and money unto the least of these; you've done it unto me. thanks mediumville. i am trying to do this same thing throughout the year. most of my friends know how much i love them and don't need presents to remind them of this. instead i have a foster child in rwanda and i give to numerous charities throughout the year. it just feels so much better.
