I think what's different between now and WWII is then we had a clearly defined enemy. Things in Afghanistan are getting worse because of a few things:
The educated upper and middle class are in a civil war with the religious lower class.
The religious lower class views us as an occupying force propping up a corrupt government (and yes, it's horribly corrupt.)

I think what's different between now and WWII is then we had a clearly defined enemy. Things in Afghanistan are getting worse because of a few things:
The educated upper and middle class are in a civil war with the religious lower class.
The religious lower class views us as an occupying force propping up a corrupt government (and yes, it's horribly corrupt.)

Second we're actually making new enemies! The people we're left fighting now in Afghanistan are fighting us because of a civil war that has nothing to do with us!

It all depends on how elevated a situation gets. If they absolutely did not want to help us, then they need to get the fuck out of the way as we occupy their fucked up country for a while.
