  • What a great display of drumming, both Joey and Dick Cully are high achievers. I just hope drummers watching this are inspired to learn and woodshed enough to bring their own talent up as high as they can. Thanks Dick and Joey!!

  • There are closed to a drum battle who happened in Las vegas in 62' between Louis Bellson and Buddy Rich, where Buddy did the fastest solo of all I know with him...

  • Joe is a friend of mine and a kick ass drummer.

  • I "love " the man..........

  • Big schmaltz, glitz, Vegas, broads, booze, cigars.

When I listen to this, I feel like gingerly stepping up to a big, kitschy Vegas all-you-can-eat $3.99 buffet, sporting a swanky cigar in one hand and a bourbon in the other and having a nice 3 lb. slab or roast beef and two heapingfulls of mashed potatos and gravy, while sitting between to satin-sheeting big-bosomed broads.

I'm waiting for Sinatra or Sammy Davis to come out smoking a big cig and sipping champagne and being suave.

    YOY!

  • Lucky You!

  • You have to admit, if you close your eyes, that easily could have been Buddy & Louie in their best days. On the Tonite Show. Only thing missing, better sound with better mics, etc. Great stuff !!

  • Joe was a protege of Buddy Rich and his roadie.

  • what kind of foot pedal are you using, Dick?

    marvelous

  • A Roger's Solid Footboard Dyna-Sonic...

The greatest foot pedal ever invented because you could adjust it to "fit" you instead of playing on something "standard". The later - CBS models sucked, but I fortunately have two mutha's..........so easy to play, kids know nothing about them, either do the morons manufacturing garbage.

  • SWIVO-MATIC, not Dyna-Sonic that was Ellis Tollin's snare for Ben Strauss and Joe Thompson.

  • haha at 6:06 Dick grabs his nose just like how Buddy does haha

  • I have that habit when I sit behind the kit too. the OCD comes out in me !

  • wow! tnx drumminman!

  • I think Buddy would have been impressed

  • Who are these guys? Now that was a battle.

  • The drummers were Joe Ascione on the Ludwig set, Dick Culley on the Stingray drums. I was the programt coordinator of the show. It was held at Long Island's Five Towns College in April of 1994. There were 9 acts, 6 solo drummers, two duets and a finale of "Sing, Sing, Sing" with 5 drummers all taking solos and playing as an ensemble with a 15 piece band. For you R&R guys, that's Flea's father on bass.

  • Fantastic

  • oh fuckin shit man!!!!!

  • This just blew my mind.. wow how amazing is this tribute!!!!!!!

  • LOL......... If you want to see the rest of the performances you'll have to "BUY" the video "LEGENDS OF DRUMMING". Copyrights belong to DRUM TV. 2208 Ocean Park Blvd. Santa Monica, CA 90405

  • would be interested in seeing the segment of this show featuring : Ed Shaughnessy, Jim Chapin, Jaimoe, Duffy Jackson, Kenwood Dennard, Marvin "Smitty" Smith, Greg Caputo, Steve Taddeo, Cody Collings, Jon Belcher, Joe Holliday, Eric Clark and Chris Kearns

I'm doubting that any of these guys played that night but the beauty of the web is that you can prove me wrong..

  • All of the above drummers did appear and play. As a mattewr of fact the only thing missing was my brilliant introduction as MC "...Please, no smoking and no flash photograpy..."

  • incredible ablility by both musos, absolutely mind blowin, out there

  • Brilliant !!!

  • ....
