A lot of singers have tried to emulate her, and most have failed miserably....Browns did do a good effort...but like Elvis is still king...Edith will always be Queen !!!! Quality will always live on.
Celui qui a composé cette chanson n'était ni Français ni Britannique (Jean-Villard Gilles était un Suisse critique à l'égard de certains de ses compatriotes, lesw biens-pensants). La nationalité n'a rien à faire avec le talent qui est universel !!!
this is why France is great. And this is why the English, despite their high opinion of themselves, cannot hope to be as rich culturally as France. What Englishman could conceive of something like this? in a word: none.
Edith Piaf is a legend - there will never be another. But, please, why have you got to be so obnoxious about the English? You are obviously uneducated and a total bore. GET A LIFE !!!!
@hekuball People like you are the reason Racist behaviour still exists worldwide. Well done for being a complete and utter ignorant fool, I hope that works well for you in life.
I'm English and whilst our Country has it's faults it also has a rich and varied cultural past, I shan't divulge any details to you because you clearly chose to pay no attention in school.
Long live Edith Piaf's music! She was an incredibly formidable and talented lady!
I agree with the enthusiastic comments on the video. Mine will be on the translation (the subtitles). I am born French Canadian and had to speak English early. Later I went to university in French and worked for U.S. companies. So I am very familiar with both languages. And I am astonished at the quality of the translation. I know this is not a difficult text but this is not a "word" translation : the actual feelings and élan of the lyrics are very well felt in the english text. Thumbs up!
@Tahititoutou Thank you for appreciating. I am the original translator. The video was copied from my account called " lightning494" which was destroyed because of copyright complaints. It is rather dangerous to post this video as the rights are owned by the INA , an organization that files a lot of complaints. VNrose3 is my current account with many new chanson translations.
Piaf never ceases to amaze me. When she comes in on the second verse, she drowns out everybody else. The power of her voice is remarkable. The world will never see the likes of another singer with the immense talents she possessed. Piaf forever.
Oh my god, her voice is soooo strong that she is over all 9 guys in the end. It is such a powerful project -this song. I am really happy that they settled after all and did this song - all together! Unique!
I've seen this clip before, & first heard the 78rpm record of Piaf & this group thirty years ago. Can anyone tell the name of the tenor, who starts the song, and whose hand Piaf takes as they all leave the stage. He had a great voice, and watch him during the song. He had a great presence throughout it-very compelling, and as rivetting to watch him as Piaf.
Thank you for sharing this wonderful performance. "Achingly beautiful,' as written above.

Fred Mella
Un jour, Édith Piaf lui a dédicacé une photo en ces termes : "A Fred, mon concurrent direct pour Les Trois Cloches"

Achingly beautiful. Edith Piaf was a great star but credit here must go equally to the Les Compagnons de la Chanson. The lead singer is perfect.
