its an Ibanez Ukulele UKS50 (please look it up to see it) its hawaiian koa back, sides, top, mahogany neck, and albalone fretboard/finger board. it has mother of pearl binging and MOP rosette. its about 200 dollars. made in japan, but all the woods and such are from hawaii. please do look it up thogh, it may help you a little.
Aquila nylgut would sweeten things up nicely, they have a different feel to the Fluorocarbon worths which have a higher tension(great for getting more volume)
no difference with the worth brand, just a choice of color I think. The nylguts might be a better first choice though I cant tell whether your instrument is made from solid woods or a laminate of koa
I mainly make medieval instruments but I am a big fan of ukuleles, in fact I am a relatively recent convert to the tenor uke, I rarely play any other instrument at home now, I plan on making a few batches of soprano and tenor ukes later this year to sell, I wont be taking orders until 2010 though as I am fine tuning my construction methods.
I am inspired by martins 3K and 5K models(hence the 17/18 frets!!). and in actual fact the body size is identical to the martin soprano models, The string length at 355mm is well less than the 380mm+ of the concert, but a couple of mm longer than some sopranos.
The aquila gut strings do help the sound alot. I think the next ones tome come will be a little louder than this as I am refining the construction, lightening some of the internal parts> I prefer the sound of the Tenor for song accompaniment but the soprano has a special place in my heart.
You are right!! well spotted, Nylgut is the stringing material. It had a very nice sound, but my next koa instrument will have a slightly thinner top for more volume.
A beautiful instrument. Sounds so bright and deep. I'm not sure, but strings look like d'Aquila Nylgut. I am right ? Anyway, it must be a real pleasure to play (wish I could buy it but the sound clearly indicates it must be... priceless :)
did you make that???

IanKusekSoloArtist 2 years ago
i prefer and aquila nylguts, but each uke is different
michaeljking 2 years ago
will d'addario give me a hawaiian sound?
IanKusekSoloArtist 2 years ago
What uke are you playing? the stringing can improve what you have, but a Hawiian Koa wood instrument is probably what you are looking for.

Great work. I like nylgut strings as well, they're really good. One of the two top string brands for the uke.
Your uke looks great and sounds fine too :)

This is no soprano ukulele. I have one and it only has 12 fret, this looks like concerto uke.
