Rorty admits he used Nazi tactics in humiliating conservative religious students. Here he spreads the official story lie that 9/11 was not an inside job. Or does he? He suspected that the Bush regime would use 9/11 just as the Nazis used the Reichstag fire. Most historians agree that the Reichstag fire was a false flag operation. Nobody in the room seems to get it. Or they are as cold and Nazi as Rorty is.
Rorty certainly seems to be on target in this talk. What scares me is that the public has lost the ability to think for itself. The cause is largely mass media. People are used to hearing issues reduced to a few cheap sound bites. You almost never get to hear mature intellects discuss an issue calmly and fairly, looking at all the angles dispassionately. Americans think a fair discussion is when the participants don't yell at each other, even though they aren't saying anything. Discouraging.
...dictatorship or totalitarianism but "rather a RELATIVELY BENEVOLENT despotism imposed by what would gradually become an hereditary..."
Deceptive, but that was already obvious looking at his bored face that doesn't express even a hint of moral outrage, and his desensitizing tone of voice and demeanour really serve to convey the subliminal message: there's really nothing too worrying going on here folks...
Although it may seem to Rorty fans that he's exposing the current developments and putting out a warning, he really isn't.
Rather, he's programming people into accepting we're merely assisting to some perhaps unfortunate developments, but there's not all that much to it, and we really haven't got all that much to worry about.
He completely downplays what's really going on and actually says at 7.40 that the current mutations in society will probably NOT lead to a military..
It is an unsurprising shame that Rorty states 9/11 was instrumentalized by the Bush administration in a manner similar to the Nazi's use of the Reichstag fire when failing to point out that the situation is far worse: 9/11 was an inside job.
It is downright deceptive of him to point to "THE END OF THE RULE OF LAW" when it's obvious that the absoluteness of rule of law is PRECISELY what's being FURTHERED by engineered terror, exactly like Bush senior proclaimed in 1991:
I used to read Rorty in university...he mystified me then and he disappoints me today...."rich playboys like OBL can accomplish feats that previously only national governments could"...he's repeating the government's story of 9/11 and this is sad. Our intellectuals are as out-to-lunch as so many others. Oh, America, we're in big trouble.
During the 20th century, Europe developed more antibodies against totalitarianism and militarism than the USA. The reaction to terrorist attacks in Spain and the UK point to a more sturdy immune system. It has not lead to a police state yet. The election of Obama, it seems that the desire for decent government has reemerged in the USA. Rorty is too pessimistic.
your wrong. new anti terror laws passed this month to stop anyone filming a police officer mean they will not be accountable for thier actions. we have none of our human rights left. police state is ready to go!
He draws morals from the left side of the post-9/11 argument, and yet, notice that he takes care to point out that he didn't believe that the Bush administration is "cryptofascist". I would love to know the date of the recording.
su importancia radica en haber cuestionado las bases de la filosofía tradicional y a su vez, contrastarla con el actual rol de la filosofía, sin duda, realizó un trabajo admirable.
a typical leftist tool. Aren't people getting wise to this clap-trap yet?

this is pretty good, most similar material runs the risk of being sensationalized but he gets around this very well.
