I have got a very good hint for you to keeping the nice old Engine in good shape with todays ultra dry eco fuels: Use 1:100 API TC two stroke oil / fuel mix as regular driving fuel, that keeps the old fuel-system gaskets, rubber parts, alloy parts etc... and cast iron metal surfaces of those vintage engines in excellent shape...and it also lubricates the valves and upper piston regions. Most Porsche vintage owners in Germany do so :) Also keeps carbs and tank clean and rustfree
its the aftermarket distributor, had the same issue in my c3 with a pertornix hot box, got the adjustable resistor for it and its smooth as silk (BTW, electric tachs are not cable driven)
nope, dont need to, just a basic working knowlege of GM (and most every other domestic of the era). mechanical tachometers werent used in any car since the 30s (and this one is OBVIOUSLY a factory or reproduction unit)
BTW, if youre greasin a cable feeding your instrument cluster, it wont affect the tach, thats called a SPEEDOMETER cable lmao (have 2 c-3 vettes now, and have had several prior, NONE had a mechanical, cable driven tach, and none were built with them) ,,!,
Bad, 1969 Corvettes came with mechanically driven tachs, not electric. I have a 70 Vette - its mechanical too. Newer C3's came with electric, I switched mine over due to some minor mods I made. What year C3's do you have?
my distributor is an MSD pro billet WITH a mechanical tach drive, its bounced for the last 37 yrs. no matter what mechanical distributor I had in it! The cable is just a long SPRING! when you change speeds quickly the spring has got to catch up to speed. When I drive it normally, it dont bounce at all, its just hard to drive it NORMALLY!.....
cool editing to match it with the song bud

Actually, when it's not bouncing from the spring cable, it's very accurate!

well at least the tach is accurate! XD

This is the same music as the red Corvette scene in the movie Triple X. I just figured that out. Was that planned?
540merlin 2 years ago 6
I haven't seen that movie yet. They must have seen my video!
Q11969 2 years ago
LOL - that's probably it.
540merlin 2 years ago 6
That's something I haven't watched in years... one of the good Vin Diesel movies. If I remember correctly, the Corvette ends up worse off.

Nice Vette!
I think your Tach needs help though.
GerryK61 2 years ago
All C 3 vettes have a spring cable hooked to the tach. When you hammer them, they bounce all over!
Q11969 2 years ago
Maybe you should add some graphite grease to the cable then. Thats funny my 66 Vette dosn't have that problem.
GerryK61 2 years ago
your probably right!
Q11969 2 years ago
My 70 Vette tach does exactly the same thing as Q1's. However, my 69 Camaro tach is nice and stable and smooth.

your right (didnt expect that did ya lmao) they were mechanical drive up to 74...my mistake.
ive got a pair of 77s now, previously had a 75, an 82, and *cough hack wheeze* and 84 (wont make that mistake again)
my appologies for the screwup, but with a motor built like that, is he really runnin a stock distributor with the mechanical sending unit??
