Goldberg Variations. This is the main Goldberg theme that starts and finishes the work with 30 variations in the middle. A couple of my favorites come later. Gould recorded the variations twice in his career. In the same manner they also sandwich his career since he became famous from the first launch and died shortly after the second.
It's an excellent set of photographs (portraits) of Gould by Jock Carroll who is no longer alive. I'm sure he enjoyed the similarity and was choosing a title that would be easy to remember.
Sorry. Like you I'm a big fan of Gould. This was an interview I managed to get by rerecording an old radio interview. I added images that I was able to find from an excellent book of photos by Jock Carroll
Does anyone know the title of the song at the beginning?

Anyone notice the reference to James Joyce in the first picture? (Portraits of the Artist as a Young Man)
